Jon Krakauer Instagram – This is the journal documenting the 113 days Chris McCandless spent in the Alaska bush. He wrote it in the back of Tainana Plantlore (2nd photo), a book found inside Bus 142 when his body was recovered. Although his journal entries weren’t dated, we know Chris wrote the first one on April 28, the day he walked into the wild. The alarming 94th entry, which he wrote on today’s date 32 years ago—July 30, 1992—includes an important clue about the cause of his demise:
“EXTREMELY WEAK / FAULT OF POTATO SEED / MUCH TROUBLE JUST TO STAND UP. STARVING. GREAT JEOPARDY.”
