At a time when local newspapers around the country are struggling, we are doing a benefit family interview show in Beacon, NY to help sustain the nonprofit @highlandscurrent in its enterprising coverage of our Hudson Valley communities and to celebrate their 15th Anniversary! Come spend an evening with us as our son Gideon interviews, pokes and prods us in the name of meaningful conversation and fun. We do these kinds of things every now and then and tend to have a blast. Join us for a great cause on Sept 21 at 7 p.m. at the Pete and Toshi Seeger Auditorium at 101 Matteawan Rd. In Beacon H.S. Tickets at HighlandsCurrent.org/grody-patinkin or at the link in our bio!
Repost from @rescueorg • No more violence. No more deaths. No more arms transfers. We’re joining 250 humanitarian and human rights organizations in a call to stop arms transfers to Israeli and Palestinian armed groups that could be used to commit violations of international humanitarian and human rights law in Gaza. Israel’s bombardment and siege has created an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, with over 34,000 Palestinians killed and over 70% of Gaza’s population displaced. Attacks by Palestinian armed groups killed around 1,200 people and took hundreds of Israeli and international hostages. Gaza has experienced the most intense use of explosive weapons in a densely populated area this century, with an estimated 45,000 bombs dropped during the first 89 days of conflict alone. These conditions have created a situation of utter desperation. This will not change until the siege, the bombardment and the fighting ends. End arms transfers. Ceasefire now.

Something all Americans should know about! Repost from @jesscraven101 Talking points on Project 2025
Repost from @katieporteroc Believe extremists when they say they want to pass a nationwide abortion ban. Abortion rights are on the ballot in every election, everywhere.
We won’t stop fighting for change until social media companies make their platforms safer by design. One child lost, is already one too many. As it exists currently, platforms and online spaces put our children at risk. These platforms should be a destination where young people can communicate, thrive and learn. Instead, online spaces are designed to keep our children scrolling and waiting for the next notification, like or comment. Without safety standards in place, platforms are serving inappropriate and dangerous content, leaving the door wide open for abuse, cyberbullying and the spread of harmful material. Parents alone cannot fully protect their children from risks due to the inherently dangerous design of these products. Since the early 2010s, the rise of social media has been linked with increased rates of depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicide among adolescents. The website archewell.org/theparentsnetwork (at link in our bio as well) acts as a hub for all the content, information or resources our audiences might need, including: • Campaign information and updates • Personal stories from our parents • Helpful resources for parents • How to get support from The Parents’ Network • How to take action #NoChildLostToSocialMedia Proud of our daughter in law and our dear friend who have helped bring this critically needed community to life.
Repost from @rescueorg • Limiting the rights of asylum seekers isn’t just inhumane—it’s also an ineffective way of trying to manage the border. Congress is yet again considering a series of restrictions on asylum seekers in the U.S. But these restrictions won’t help respond to the humanitarian situation at the border. They’ll only force people to take more dangerous routes and risks as they search for safety. Swipe to get the facts on asylum restrictions. Reminder: Seeking asylum is a human right.

Repost from @rescueorg • The world is failing the people of Sudan. Sudan was #1 on the IRC’s annual Watchlist of countries at risk of humanitarian crises in 2024. We’re sounding the alarm again now as the country faces a potentially historic humanitarian catastrophe. To learn more, visit Rescue.org/Sudan
