Wow! $250M in donations, 28K new volunteers, 44K Black women on a campaign call —the idea of Trump not returning to the White House has already had a miraculous effect on the country. Despair? Over! Depression? Reduced! Fear of the Orange? Vanished! People from Ohio asking to drink from the Detroit River? Uh…Sure! Somewhere deep inside all of us, we knew that America was now, officially, Great Again. Thank You Joe & Kamala! Continue reading at Michael Moore.com
A father was hiding with his son from the gunfire at the 4th of July parade this morning. He needed to go find the rest of his family. Not wanting to leave his son unprotected, he picked him up & put him in a dumpster. This is who we are. This is what we’ve become. To save our children, they must be treated as garbage. USA. We’re #1.
It took just 5 days. Nothing like it had ever happened before in American history. And yet, by this past Thu, a mere 5 days after Biden’s 1:46 pm Sun afternoon announcement of him ending his re-election campaign and handing the candidacy over to his VP, Kamala Harris, the Wall Street Journal (no friend to women, People of Color, young voters, the poor or the working class)—this grand oracle of Capitalism, conservative ideology and the force that is Rupert Murdoch—ran this stunning historic headline, truly one for the ages: “HARRIS ERASES TRUMP’S LEAD, WSJ POLL FINDS” Kamala Harris, the daughter of Jamaican and Indian immigrants, two genius parents, was now, in 2024, accepting the all-but-certain nomination to be the Democratic Party candidate for President of the United States. And, it should be noted, the chance to become the first woman ever to hold this esteemed office. Yes, that was just one week ago. A euphoric nation exploded in a joyful belief that finally the promise of the American Dream was no longer just a “promise” nor a “dream” but a roaring reality that immediately took off like a rocket. And each day last week saw a new record set for a Presidential campaign—for campaign contributions ($350M!), volunteer sign-ups (170K!), Zoom calls (160K participants!), new voter registrations (40K!) and more! Trump is furious. He is planning to sue to “keep Harris off the ballot.” Good luck with that. It won’t work. Apparently, somewhere along the way, Trump Van Winkle must have fallen into a deep sleep & missed the memo that many white men like him also seemed to miss: “America is no longer your America, the exclusive club for the gender prone to war, violent outbursts, and ‘mansplaining’—and yet still holding the majority of the wealth, the property, the tee times and most of the seats in Congress.” That America is being shown the door. Here’s what the New America looks like: 79% of This Country Is Female, Young and Not-So-White Anymore. Not the best place to run for President if your three main personality traits are misogyny, bigotry, and sounding like everyone’s Uncle Don. Oh—and then there’s this… Continue reading at MichaelMoore.com
Biden stepping down is a GREAT start. Next, Biden must resign so Harris can run as the incumbent president. Then, Harris must immediately call for a ceasefire in Gaza. The rest of us must believe Trump is beatable. WE are the majority. Time to mobilize… Read my take at MichaelMoore.com
In countries where women hold real power, their rights are not taken from them — and when they fight back, the corrupt and misogynist men are crushed. 7 years ago I went to Iceland to show Americans how it’s done, and what happens when all the women go on strike. Please watch this powerful 13-min clip — click on the Link above in IG Stories, or simply go to MichaelMoore.com to view — and then let’s organize and fight to undo the damage we’ve allowed to happen.
A mass shooting to honor our Freedom and Independence on the 4th. A ruling class that doubled its wealth while the country suffered. A Supreme Court that stripped 51% of our citizens of their reproductive rights while also removing gun laws & helping kill the EPA. Ready to stop this madness? My Declaration: michaelmoore.com
This is how toxic you are, Bibi: The President of the Senate, Kamala Harris, has chosen to skip your speech and go to… Indianapolis. Let me tell you why… Continue reading at MichaelMoore.com
It’s been over a week since the boss of the Trump Crime Family was convicted of 34 felonies. And yet, he still roams the streets of America, Fox News, and Wisconsin. Sentencing is scheduled for July 11th. Fifty-one years ago, Donald Trump and his father, Fred Trump were charged with breaking the law by violating the Fair Housing Act and the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (which stated that even though you were a bigot, you still had to rent the apartments you owned to anyone regardless of their race, creed, color or national origin). The Trumps sought to try out a new legal theory of theirs that this particular law did not apply to them. The case, in U.S. federal district court, was The United States v. Fred C. Trump, Donald Trump, and Trump Management, Inc. The crimes that the Trump mob was accused of committing involved the Trumps refusing to rent any of their nearly 4,000 apartments that they owned in New York City to people who were Black or Puerto Rican. It turned out that over a period of decades, only seven Black families were allowed to rent any Trump apartments. To avoid any further prosecution or penalties, the Trumps signed a consent decree to stop discriminating against people of color. A few years later, the government accused father and son Trump of violating the agreement they had signed. It was one of many cases over the years where, no matter how often the Trump Organization was accused of civil rights violations, fraud, not paying contractors or employees, and other acts of illegal or immoral ineptitude and debauchery — acts too numerous to list here — they were repeatedly hauled in front of a judge to face justice, only to slip through the cracks in the law, while showing no remorse, receiving no punishment, and having zero impact on them, thus ensuring they would never become law-abiding and decent citizens. On this episode of my podcast, I do a shallow dive into how the Trump Crime Family did not get away with it this time. Please listen here to all my favorite takeaways from Trump’s conviction: MichaelMoore.com
Vice President Harris, you’ve got a big weekend ahead interviewing and vetting a half dozen men and deciding who will be your running mate. It’s only taken nearly 240 years to be able to write that sentence. I just wanted to wish you the best of luck and for you to know what I’m sure you already know, that you’ve got a great batch to choose from, that we fully believe in you and will be excited to hear who your VP will be. Onward to victory in November! P.S. If there’s a deadlock, you do have one other possibility, someone who claims he can deliver the state of Michigan for you. (This claim should be vetted.)
This is how it feels. Only we can change it. Are you really ready to give up? C’mon! We still have ketchup!
Yesterday, July 1, was Canada’s 4th of July. You Canadians call it “Canada Day.”Whatever. When our Continental Congress in 1777 wrote the precursor to our Constitution – “The Articles of Confederation“ – they didn’t want to leave you, Canada, behind! So they included a clause that said Canada could, whenever they wanted to, automatically become part of the USA! You’re welcome! Here it is, Article XI, as written by our Founding Fathers: “ARTICLE XI. Canada acceding to this confederation, and joining in the measures of the United States, shall be admitted into, and entitled to all the advantages of this union… “ Canada chose not to accept our generous offer. I wonder if maybe now they’d like to reconsider? How many Canadians yesterday on Canada Day spent time at their BBQs wishing they could strip their female citizens of their reproductive rights! And strip their environmental ministry of its authority to stop carbon polluters! Oh Canada, how on May 14th of this year you must have looked longingly across the Niagara River at Buffalo while Black people were slaughtered by one of our thousands of white supremacists with legally-purchased guns! How weak you must feel having to depend on your government which pays for every single one of your doctor and hospital bills — and you, never having to suffer the pain of bankruptcy due to medical bills, because you refuse to play by the rules of the free market system which decrees there can be no health care without a profit motive! All this freeloading — no wonder you’re soft! We’ll never forget you wouldn’t join us in invading Iraq! And now your Prime Minister tells every American woman that if they are unable to get an abortion in the U.S. they are welcome to come to Canada and get one for free! How can you live like this?! C’mon Canada! There’s still time to join the USA! We’ll teach you how to shoot, how to gerrymander, and how to remove equal rights for women from your constitution! Think about it! I’ll throw an extra hot dog on the grill for you this Monday. (BTW, if you’re looking for your Stanley Cup, it’s sitting for the next 12 months just a few miles down the road from Columbine High School)

On Monday, July 22, 2024, one day after President Biden bravely ended his re-election run for a second term and endorsed his vice president as his replacement, Vice President Kamala Harris paid her first visit to the “Harris for President” campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, to meet the campaign staff and make a few remarks. With only 106 days left until the general election on November 5th, and no time to waste, with a nation on edge over what may be the biggest threat ever to our Democracy with the Republican nominee, Donald Trump, still seething over his removal of office by voters in 2020, having vowed to seek revenge and, if elected, “be a dictator on Day One,” she stepped up to the podium. And delivered. It is my hope that every one of you will take 10 short minutes and watch what I think is one of the best political speeches I’ve witnessed in my lifetime. Powerful. Real. Laser-focused and uplifting. Exactly what we need. And for all of you who have been in a deep despair, get ready to be jolted off your sofa… Continue reading and watch this historic speech at MichaelMoore.com
Please listen to today’s episode of my podcast. It’s the podcast version of my written plea for someone to please step in and get President Biden the medical evaluation and help he so obviously needs. An amazing one out of five of our 45 previous presidents have NOT made it to the end of their term. The Founders anticipated this and created an easy solution. We all voted for her in 2020 just in case of and for exactly this reason. Stop wasting another minute! We need every one of the next 122 days for the millions of us to be out there doing the work we must do to block Trump from returning to the White House. Listen at MichaelMoore.com And to President Biden: Thank you for the good you have done. You will be remembered throughout the ages. But not if you let your enablers hound you into doing what your body is begging you not to do. Be the one who not only stopped Trump, but also the brave man who gave us our first woman in the Oval Office. She will complete your mission — and we will stand beside her. THIS is your moment in history. Let the doctors examine you. Then do the right thing. — Mike
To paraphrase an old Richard Pryor joke, “Who are you going to believe? Me, or your own lying eyes?” Since the presidential debate last week, the leaders of the Democratic Party, in full 5-alarm fire mode, want us to believe we didn’t see what we saw. “It was just a cold.” “Everybody has an off night.” “Ok, so it wasn’t his best performance.” “All presidents have one bad debate.” “He’s 81! What do you expect? You’ll be 81 someday!” “He’s not a quitter. He’s all in. This is Scranton Joe we’re talkin’ about!” These answers are all malarkey. That’s probably because we are asking the wrong question when we ask “What are we going to do about Joe?” This is not about whether he’s fit to serve another four years — this is about whether he should serve another four days in the toughest job in the world… Continue reading at MichaelMoore.com
THE 28th AMENDMENT SECTION 1. The inalienable right of a free people to be kept safe from gun violence and the fear thereof must not be infringed and shall be protected by the Congress. This Amendment thus repeals and replaces the Second Amendment. SECTION 2. Congress shall create a mandatory system of firearm registration and licensing for the following limited purposes: (a) licensed hunters of game; (b) licensed ranges for the sport of target shooting; and (c) for the few who can prove a special need for personal protection. All who seek a firearm will undergo a strict vetting process with a thorough background check, including the written approval of family members, ex-spouses and partners. A mental health check will also be required. There will be a waiting period of one month to complete the full background check. SECTION 3. Those who successfully pass the background check must take a firearms safety class and pass a written test. SECTION 4. The minimum age for the restricted groups who can own a firearm is 25 years old. SECTION 5. Congress will stipulate and update the limited list of approved firearms for civilian use. The following firearms are heretofore banned: • All automatic and semi-automatic weapons and all devices which can enable a single-shot gun to fire automatically or semi-automatically; • Any weapon that can hold more than six bullets or rounds at a time or any magazine that holds more than six bullets. SECTION 6. Congress shall regulate all ammunition and its capacity, the storage of guns, gun locks, sights, body armor and the sale and distribution of such items. Congress may create future restrictions as this amendment specifically does not grant any American the “right” to own any weapon. SECTION 7. Police shall be subject to strict and comprehensive monitoring and shall be dismissed if found to exhibit any racist or violent behavior. SECTION 8. Persons already owning any of the above banned firearms will have one month from the ratification of this Amendment to turn in their firearms for destruction by local law enforcement. “Red Wedding.” Wow. Thank God we have millions of Jon Snows and Arya Starks. Fear not. You’re watching the demise and defeat of white supremacy & Trumpism. Have faith. But get up & fight nonviolently! Roe, mass shootings, our fragile Democracy. This is the moment. #Jan6Hearing
A profile in courage. While millions of us will be in the streets and town squares over the next months, yesterday Detroit-area Congressman Andy Levin and 16 other members of the House (including Rep. Rashida Talaib, AOC and others) took part in a nonviolent, peaceful act of civil disobedience in front of the Supreme Court— a Court full of right wing nutters and religious zealots who lack the support of 80% of the American people. Levin and the others and a couple dozen citizens were all arrested and taken away. MORE OF THIS! If you want our vote, you’d better be willing to put your body on the line and take a clear stand against the madness.
Friends, I woke up this morning and realized that today, August 2nd, is the 100th birthday of one of the greatest American writers and thinkers ever — James Baldwin. To honor him, we thought it’d be cool if we had an unplanned watch-party throughout the country, a spontaneous “Mike’s Movie Night” across America, where all of us together, in each of our homes, settled in to watch what I believe is one of the best documentaries of all time: Raoul Peck’s Oscar-nominated I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO. The film is based on a 30-page book proposal Baldwin wrote in the final years of his life. He wanted to explore his close friendship with Martin Luther King, Jr., Medgar Evers and Malcolm X and how they helped shape his understanding of what it meant to be raised as a Black man in the United States of America. Peck, with the blessing of the Baldwin family, took those 30 pages and fashioned it into an amazing work of art to give James Baldwin his final say as to who we are and what we’ve become. I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO is available for free for Hulu and Disney subscribers, and also free on Kanopy via participating libraries (using your library card). You can also rent the film on Prime, Apple, and other platforms. I’m going to watch at 8pm ET tonight — join me from wherever you are, or frankly, watch it anytime tonight, tomorrow or this weekend. When I’m done watching it tonight (probably around 9:35pmET), join me for a 20 min chat on my Substack (at MichaelMoore.com)! For paid subscribers, I’ll be answering questions on a Live Chat Thread via the Substack App. You will be notified by Substack when the Thread is live. For free subscribers, I will open up the comment section below at 9:30pm to everyone, so write your questions/comments there! I will answer as many as I can. Do not miss this movie! Especially during this historic week! If you’ve already seen it, gather the family, call a few friends, or share this with folks online and re-watch this masterpiece at this moment of the collective PANDEMONIUM we are all in! YES! — Mike
When the news of the week’s events becomes so deafening, so monstrous, that it overwhelms us, we miss critical other events that will affect us greatly. This week, with the Supreme Court declaring women second-class citizens, the January 6th Hearing confirming Trump sought to stage a coup, and mass shootings continuing nationwide, there were vital stories that went uncovered and ignored. Today on my podcast I want to share with you three big stories that you may have missed recently, that were overlooked by the majority of the American public: the successful unionizing of the first Apple Store; the Israeli Defense Force shooting and killing an American journalist; and the Michigan Supreme Court on Tuesday unanimously blocking the prosecution of the Republican ex-governor for poisoning the water of Flint, Michigan. Stories like these must not be buried. Listen at MichaelMoore.com
My good friend Rep. Dan Kildee (D-MI) and I texted during the January 6th hearing last Thursday, reliving our phone call on that day in January of 2021 as Dan was lying on the floor of the House gallery and I listened in horror as a shot rang out… I have felt a lot of different emotions watching these hearings, but last week it all became very personal and by the end of this 8th hearing, I was on fire. It always brings me great joy when our film festival’s opening night in northern Michigan begins on Stanley Kubrick’s birthday! After a 2-year absence due to Covid, we launched our 16th festival in Traverse City last night with a new film by Abigail Disney & Kathleen Hughes: “The American Dream & Other Fairy Tales”. The perfect film for the moment we are in. I’ve chosen 49 other movies which we’ll show this week, most of them made in and around these pandemic years, most of them never or barely released in theaters for audiences to see the way they should be seen. So many of them already lost gems. My goal with our festival this year is that they must not be lost. They must be seen, not just here in our little town, but by millions across the world. These are the “missed masterpieces” of 2019-2022, not able to enjoy the wide theatrical release they deserved, consigned instead to a list of streaming services who did their best to make them available amongst their long dense list of films you are welcome to scroll through for an hour or two. We’re also presenting a 50th Anniversary screening of “Harold and Maude” and a 100th Year screening of “Nosferatu” with live musical accompaniment. And a special theatrical screening of what I think is the most brilliant piece of art set during this pandemic: Bo Burnham’s “Inside”. Here is our list of these brilliant movies I hope you get to see: TCFF.org
