Wow.. what an incredible, fun-filled, memorable summer in Europe this was!! The summer of 2024 will go down as the most rewarding, remarkable experience in my professional career as a musician.. The record-breaking numbers this tour has generated on a global scale will never be matched and to be a small part of it is truly humbling.. Years from now I’ll be able to tell my kids what their dad was part of and that brings me such joy and happiness.. I have to thank my amazing wife @ashsidoti for flexing her superpowers as a music executive while raising our two children (one as a newborn) while I was gone for 4 months and our kids for understanding.. Ashley, your support is unwavering and I love you so much for all you are.. To the fans, my gosh there are no words to describe your incredible loyalty and love you have shown us.. You know you are the best of the best and have been from day 1.. To our incredible team of management and crew who make our jobs as smooth as can be and operate at the very top of their game, 1000 percent every single day, thank you.. And to Taylor… thank you for another massive trip around the world on this amazing musical journey.. Much love always.. Wembley Stadium, our 8th and final sold out show here of another 93,000 people tonight, just wow.. See you all in October! ❤️🎸 @taylorswift #theerastour

This is going to be a long post so bear with me.. When I was in high school, the movie Dirty Dancing was everywhere. It was a pop culture phenomenon and one of the album soundtrack’s biggest hits was “Hungry Eyes” by Eric Carmen. Unbeknownst to me, Eric was not only a Cleveland legend, but one of the most uniquely talented gifted singer/songwriter/musicians of our generation. It was here that I was introduced to his music and the follow up, “Make Me Lose Control”, was one of my favorite songs of 1988. His first success as an artist came when he led the power pop giants, Raspberries, in the early 70’s. Their million seller smash, “Go All The Way”, encapsulated all of the bands’ influences. The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, The Beach Boys, The Byrds, and Small Faces all wrapped in a new package that went beyond what those amazing bands were capable of. Eric’s brilliant classical background on piano gave the band an added dimension. I was too young to remember them growing up but the biggest names in music cited Raspberries as a major influence. KISS, Bruce Springsteen, Rick Springfield, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, Motley Crue, Guns N Roses, the list goes on.. In 1993 I recorded a light rock solo album of original songs. Fast forward to 1998, I’m introduced to Eric and what happened after that could only be described as a perfect mentoring relationship. I think we both felt a connection that went beyond music. I’ll never forget going to his house for the first time and sitting in his office. We talked about music for hours and he asked me if I had something to play him. I brought a cassette of my original album and to my surprise he sat there intently listening to each song. With the sweetest compliments and a cheerleader-like vibe, he would say things like “yeah! Love the David Foster keyboards and drum fills!” Then Eric proceeded to play me an album he just released in Japan called, Winter Dreams, which later was renamed, I Was Born To Love You. The production elements were very similar to what I had played him and from that I believe our special bond was formed. Continued..
One of my favorite songs by the amazing @mwsmithofficial .. When I started recording originals in the 80’s/early 90’s I drew inspiration from his voice and arrangements.. And the message in his music, beautiful.. Check him out..
It’s a wonderful day when this shows up at your doorstep.. Sauce from thee oldest and best Italian restaurant on the east coast in Philadelphia.. My dear friend @connielarussa at @danteluigis sent some of her incredible sauce straight from her kitchen.. 🍝 🍷 Do yourself a favor and stop in at Dante & Luigi’s in the Italian Market in Philly.. A beloved landmark frequented by all the A listers.. @officialslystallone for starters.. “Yo!!” Thanks Connie we ❤️ you, @futone and @amy_schwarz_1 !!
There was a false start of a Raspberries reunion in the summer of 1999 in which I was going to participate as a backing musician/vocalist playing guitar and keyboards. But it led to a performance at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame where I played bass with Eric’s solo band. It was a great night of storytelling accompanied by a set of his original hits and some fun cover songs. In 2004, the House of Blues was set to open a venue in Cleveland and their mission was to get Raspberries to reunite after 32 years for the grand opening. This time the stars aligned and it came to fruition. The original lineup along with myself and my longtime band mate Billy Sullivan and Jennifer Lee joined them to fill out the complex musical and vocal arrangements to replicate the original recordings. What ensued was some of the most fun and memorable moments of my musical career. We would rehearse every night for two and a half months putting together the show Eric dreamed of giving an audience what they waited so long to hear. Every detail was meticulously gone over in the best possible way. Eric and I spent a lot of time together outside of regular band practice. For instance, he’d show me the way he would voice string parts on a synthesizer. Not playing a typical chord but arranging the voices like a string quartet, using a cello/violin patch. I’d split the keyboard with the violins on top and the cellos on the bottom. He was such an amazing teacher, composer, and arranger. The knowledge I obtained from him was priceless. Then there was the humor. My goodness. We laughed harder than we’d ever laughed before during these rehearsals. Eric had an incredible sense of humor and he had a wonderful way of telling the most hilarious stories. He was especially effective at doing this at just the right time when he sensed work fatigue might be setting in. He’d break everybody up with some hysterical story from years past and we’d get right back to it refreshed having laughed for a good 10 minutes or so. After rehearsals we’d go next door and have dinner at a popular bar and the laughs would continue until the wee hours of the morning. Continued..
