4 years ago today Ashley and I received a devastating phone call that crushed our world.. Her beloved stepdad Bill unexpectedly passed away in his sleep.. He was such an amazing man who adored and loved his daughters and grandchildren but sadly for far too short of time.. He was so wonderful to me we shared so many laughs, fun times, and experiences.. One I’ll never forget is when we announced to our families that we were expecting our first child by way of a photo that stated what the picture costs, the frame costs and the tag line “the look on your face when you realize there’s 5 of us in the picture”.. He thought for a second and looked up and said .. “No shit?!”.. That will always put a smile on my face.. So today like every time he came to visit, I went out for a big steak dinner (and yes I ate it all!) in honor of him… I love and miss you Bill.. I know you’re watching up above with that huge smile and great laugh.. Bill wrote the last page in his Notes on his phone very shortly before he passed.. What incredible words to live by.. I chose this George Strait classic as it’s about celebrating life and our precious time on Earth.. And I’m so glad he raised Ashley on amazing country music.. 🥩☺️❤️

I recently watched the documentary I Am @celinedion and what dawned on me is how fast time is flying by.. It seems lately things that were once in our rear view mirror, are now distant memories.. It made me think back to the year 1992 when I was asked to perform with a group at the Cleveland Undercurrents Showcase playing keyboards.. Ric Holloway was part of the band and brought me in.. I was all of 21 years old and a fellow by the name of James Tate sang “Beauty and The Beast” as a duet.. At one point, he asked Ric if I was able to learn the keyboard part.. He told James that not only could I learn it, but I had the actual synth and sound they used on the recording which would authenticate it.. (Roland JD-800 Crystal Rhodes for the musicians out there :)) Ric was older and by him going to bat for me, he gave me tremendous confidence in a room full of strangers.. I can’t tell you how many instances like this molded me along my journey and I’d just like to thank Ric for the opportunity and support.. Love this song and every time I listen to it, I can still picture learning and playing every note of it.. And Celine, my heart breaks to see what you’ve had to endure but we are all in your corner anxiously awaiting your return to that magnificent stage.. ☺️❤️🎤

Flashback Friday.. I just completed my freshman year of college and unknowingly auditioned for a summer variety show at a resort in Northern Michigan called Schuss Mountain.. I just turned 19 and was about to get a taste of what I truly wanted to do for the rest of my life.. The summer of 1990 was one of the most magical times of my life.. There were 8 of us guys living in a three story condo.. The stories from that summer could fill a book.. The show was written by the spectacularly talented @suedrausmd .. She was a kindred spirit to me.. Maybe it’s because three days into a 2 week rehearsal schedule, when the original bass player quit, she said “do you know anyone who can do this?” Mind you, we had these thick binders of scores of music in medley form.. Fully notated of a Broadway, Motown, and 60’s party set.. I called my pal from high school who I played with in my rock bands.. Fantastic natural talent but didn’t read the notation in the score.. So in addition to learning my guitar and keyboard parts, I assisted the other two keys players with learning the synthesizers I brought up.. I would stay up all night with the amazing Brian Crossley and play the bass parts on guitar back to him and he’d repeat them to the point of memorizing them.. So gifted.. Then we had to put all this together as a band which consisted of very intense long rehearsals.. We’d break long enough for me and @chrisgravesmusic to eat cheeseburgers on a daily basis! The show came together beautifully.. The chemistry in that group of people was so special.. We hung out all the time.. Waterskiing, tubing, Torch Lake.. We played 6 shows a week from 9 pm- 1 am to thousands of fans of the Schussycats, as we were known.. We always felt like we were The Beatles there because it was the event that everyone looked forward to all year.. The show ran from June through August and forever shaped me as a musician and as a person.. I’m so grateful to Sue Draus for her mentorship and my wonderful cast mates some of who have remained dear friends to this day.. Thank you @meredithfridline (who saw me play there as a 6 and 8 year old!) for this walk down memory lane 34 years later.. ❤️
