TIM MINCHIN. Touring N America now. Incredibly great show. Do NOT miss it. Hilarious , moving, and generally astonishing. We hung out a bit while he was here, told lies , ate sushi , drank red wine , goofed off . Good.

SPEED SKATING DUCKS. It’s freezing at home, the dam has frozen over. So the ducks are training for the Winter Games. Two of them are shaping into excellent speed skaters , the 3rd is just baffled. Could have a future as an ice hockey goalie though, we’re hoping.

In the ‘30s, my Mum and Gran drove one of these round Europe. Coming down a pass into Switzerland , one of the back wheels came off , passed them to their surprise , and made it down before they did . No one hurt .
Here’s to the great Edna O’Brien . RIP. I got to know her a little bit ; years ago one of my early films was of her The County Girls . She was funny , charming and told great stories . And of course wrote great books . She told me once that when her mother died , she found buried away at the back of a cupboard, the book of The Country Girls that Edna had given her when it was published in 1960. Her mother had not just buried it under a lot of old stuff , she had carefully censored with a pen , any material even slightly risque. Different days in Ireland – all 3 books in the series were banned. Well , she lived to the grand old age of 93 , leaving a great legacy . I am so glad i had the opportunity to work on her work , and meet her like that . #TheCountryGirls #EdnaO’Brien.

@st_vincent I saw the remarkable ST VINCENT live last night. She blew the roof off the place . Absolutely incredible. Plus ! At one point , she came down into the audience , spotted me and gave me a big hug . Me ! Be still my heart. She was singing ‘NewYork’ at the time , so that makes sense. No it doesn’t . Anyway do whatever the hell you can to see her on tour. You already are ? Of course , i knew that . #StVincent
