I have other IG accounts that I use now to engage with the folks I wouldn’t have normally seen on my celebrity profile feed. People who actually like my music, who listen to the podcast, who want to get into the tech industry or who understand my stance for ALL human rights. So many authentic places to engage with, but some folks prefer the association to a celebrity over genuine interactions. Unfollowing everyone on Instagram was an eye-opener. The more people I unfollowed the more I started seeing post from folks I hadn’t seen in a long time. The algorithm wasn’t showing them to me. I also gave a lot of folks the heads up and explained why. THAT was also super informative. Mostly everyone understood. A few folks took issue, mostly ones who were more interested in my celebrity than me and what I actually do and stand for. I will still use this page to amplify all the things and people that matter to me (within Meta’s guidelines).
