@daisyridley, like so many of us, is learning to continuously listen to her body, especially following her diagnosis of Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder that involves overactivity of the thyroid. For Daisy, working out is a mental escape, not solely a physical feat. “It’s an hour just for me, and it’s my time to do what I need to do to make myself feel good,” she tells WH. The other thing Daisy really likes to do for her mental health? Reading. Daisy has always been a voracious reader, and she credits that love of reading as a major reason she’s an actor today. (Two of her recent favorites include Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason and As Young as This by Roxy Dunn.) As WH’s Comebacks Issue cover star, @daisyridley shares how she tuning in to her own needs, getting lost in what works for her, and finding peace in new routines. For WH’s Comebacks Issue cover star @daisyridley, embodying the role of swimmer Trudy Ederle—the first woman to swim the English Channel—in ‘Young Woman And The Sea’ was intense, physically and mentally. Today is the 98th anniversary of that historic swim, a feat that Daisy learned about intimately. “The buildup to it was worse than the thing,” she says of the experience. “Once you’re [swimming], you’re like, ‘Oh, I’m fine.’ And then after the fact, I was like, ‘How did I actually do that?’” Daisy is no stranger to doing hard things. Diagnosed with endometriosis in her teens, and polycystic ovaries in her 20s, she’s been candid about her health. But now she’s dealing with another curveball: Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder that involves overactivity of the thyroid. The diagnosis has led Daisy to a renewed sense of body awareness and reminded her that not everything can be anticipated. “I’ve always been health conscious, and now I’m trying to be more well-being conscious,” she says. At the link in bio, Daisy shares how she learned to slow down and listen to her body during one of the most intense phases of her life. Grab a copy on stands August 20! @daisyridley, like so many of us, is still working to find balance. She’s dealt with endometriosis, polycystic ovaries, and now, Graves’ disease, but she’s not letting any of it hold her back. Instead, she’s focusing on listening to her body, a thing she knows many women are not inclined to do. “Even if you can deal with it, you shouldn’t have to just [suffer through it],” she tells WH. At the link in bio and on stands now, Daisy opens up about embodying the role of record-breaking swimmer Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle in ‘Young Woman and the Sea,’ and how she’s tuning in to her own needs now more than ever. ✨ Editor-in-Chief: @lizplosser Photographer: @jonnymarlow Stylist: @kgsaladino Interview: @samanthajoleal Hair: @mararoszak Makeup: @kateleemakeup Manicure: @jolene.b.nails Design Director: @betsyhalsey Executive Visual Director: @fvleroux Entertainment Director: @maxwelllosgar Production: @wonderpartnersinc
