Set in the Victorian era, The Fraud retells the captivating real-life events of the Tichborne Trial. A man has returned to London claiming to be Sir Roger Tichborne – the heir to a large fortune. But he was long believed to have died on the journey to Australia, and the family is unconvinced that this cockney butcher is their long lost Baron.
Told largely from the perspective of Eliza Touchet, a housekeeper who is enthralled by the trial, the novel weaves together history and fiction and takes us on a journey from literary London to the sugar-cane plantations of Jamaica.
Julia and Kathy delve into the book’s exploration of race, class, gender, age and beauty, with many laughs along the way!
