“Be sand not oil, in the gears of the machine,” said @mrjohnbruce quoting Amos Vogel quoting Gunter Eich. But somehow we must still “be like water,” said Mr. Bruce Lee. 💦

So excited to share this collection of costume sketches for EXPATS from our brilliant costume designer Malgosia Turzanska @malgosia_turzanska . This level of craft is what makes me giddy with excitement to bring a story to screen. Malgosia’s love for these characters, for the plight of Hong Kong and its people, her synergetic collaboration with Anna and Yong… how easily she is moved to tears (she cried on set when we shot Margaret running on a treadmill for Ep 2), her kindness and generosity to her team… Anyway, I could go on and on. How lucky am I.

I’m taking one more opportunity to embarrass Yong @sungji715 and talk about her ability to manage both macro and micro. Whether she’s recreating HK’s Occupy Movement in a parking lot, or sourcing hundreds of umbrellas for the Umbrella Movement, or building massive apartments against a 200foot backdrop, she somehow still manages to be concerned with…….. “the cups” 🤣🤣🤣 (scroll to the end). God is in the details. I love Yong.
