I’ve been a radio chick my whole life. When I didn’t have many friends, radio was always there. 🥹
It was my absolute HONO(U)R to be a morning/breakfast show host throughout the country for 17 years and currently every Friday night in London 🇬🇧 on the iconic @bbcradio2 and for an American, that’s no small feat!
This job is currently very different than the heydays, but radio will always be special to me. People allow you into their lives, their homes, their cars, their earholes, their offices, their kitchens, you name it. It’s the most intimate form of media and to me the best compliment is this: I feel like I know you, like you are my family, I love listening to you. It’s magic to my ears.
For those who are considering radio as a career? Have a backup plan. THAT’S REAL
My journey in radio stations as you flip through:
1. My first day on air in NYC on @1035ktu with @rupaulofficial and this is where our work marriage began in 1996 KTU also brought my DEAR friend @goumbajohnny to me. My forever friend 🖤
2. Broadcasting live in Barbados with my Ru
3. Currently holding down the fort at @bbcradio2 every Friday night at 7pm UK time and worldwide on @bbcsounds (free app ZERO spam) join the Fabulous Friday Family you will NOT regret it!
4. My first radio station @1035ktu NYC
5. HOT 92.3 Los Angeles. co-hosting with the amazing @sinbadbad until he left. Also where I had the ONLY female boss I ever had in radio, the amazing @michellesfresh (who believed in me more than ANY male boss I EVER had in radio). FACTS
6. Back to NYC to MIX 102.7 to co host with @realjoecausi whom I ADORE
7. SUNNY 104.3 to do mornings on a conservative AC station. LEARNING CURVE
8. Sirius was simultaneously done with the above
9. MIA was the last stop before I walked away because women are NOT respected or valued in radio in the USA at ALL
10. Where I am currently: RADIO 2 in London with ALL female bosses who trust me implicitly! @hofhull you are a gem and @stesoftley and @mickycurling YOU ARE MY A TEAM!
