Had a perfect reason to take my hubby to my birthplace, Taiping, because @mmavissang was getting married and I couldn’t miss it at all! It was such a beautiful experience and I loved how they intertwined both the Chinese and Hindu marriage customs. It’s officially been a month of being asked“how does it feel to be married” and guys, it feels amazing! Mostly because nothing has changed between us and we’re both back at work. My only revelation is that it does feel different to be married vs being in a long-term relationship. I knew I wanted to get married and be in a traditional union, so being able to ask for what I want and having my dream come true was just wild! Signing documents, opening bank accounts, sharing financial expenses (even disclosing/curbing my spending habit) hits different when you’re a legal entity. Some people will convince you that it’s just a paper and it doesn’t mean much, but only you can determine what having a partner -married or not married- will mean to you. Don’t let anyone make you feel small about it. When you find someone who is aligned with the similar values and importance placed on similar needs, it will feel right and it will make sense. It was the courage to speak it out that was the hardest for me, but it got me here. I saw how my family came together and took on different roles leading up to the wedding and even more blessed that they flew over multiple countries and flights to be a part of this big day. Plus, my brothers giving speeches, my sister overcoming her fear of attention and my mom looking so stunning at all of the events made me feel so loved, not to mention pops singing in the evening- yes he sang. They are all core memories anchored in my heart forever. (Still waiting for the rest of the pics to come but I wanted to share these for now!) PS. A little shoutout to @paxfloralstudio for being meticulous and being such great executors of my visual references. Cleansing and preparing with 🛁🌸🌺🌼 Kak Ida (everyone’s bidan) helped prepare me for my big day with a mandi bunga. This was the first time I experienced traditional ritual for cleansing and nourishing energy. Flower baths help to flush the body of negative energies. The body becomes an open channel for fresh beginnings. It is believed that this ritual is best performed during the full moon. Even though I read the books, listened to the podcasts, and did as much as I could for myself, I noticed that I was still attracting the same kind of experiences in my life. Truth be told, I wasn’t willing to let go some of my coping mechanisms and was not in a healthy place. It wasn’t until last year when I stopped living in denial and took stock of my life and finally admit parts of myself I didn’t want to face. Confronted with turning 40-a milestone year-and barely happy, it was “acceptance” that helped shift my mindset, my perspectives and wounds of suffering. It felt like God said to me: You’ve finally learnt what you needed to learn, now we can move on. In less than 6 months, I found myself receiving all the gifts of life I’ve ever wanted and in a new stage of my life, feeling like the future knows no bounds. Just trust in the process and do the work, the sooner you accept your reality, the quicker your reality will start to shift. It all feels like a dream. #lifelessons
Your capacity to feel love is equal to your capacity to feel pain. Sometimes, we avoid love because we still carry old pain. For so long, I tried to push the pain away and quickly move from one situation to another. But eventually, it caught up with me, and I had to confront it. I cried for hours and hours, for days and days. I hadn’t realized how much was buried inside or how deeply I had blocked myself from truly feeling. I didn’t realize how often I chose from my wounds, how often I let my ego guide me. The only way to break this perpetual cycle was to start loving myself. I needed to embrace the parts of myself I wanted to hide. I needed to stop taking things personally and show up for myself. I needed to love myself enough so that, when the time comes, light can enter, and I too can receive love. I have been receiving many well wishes from those close to me and from those who have watched my story from afar. It has been a profound journey, and I feel incredibly blessed to have been witnessed by everyone here. Your support means the world to me, and it reminds me that love is always within reach, even in the darkest times.
Wedding Preparation Appreciation Post! I had to find spots in my schedule to prepare for my big day and it was soooo worth it! In the last week, I squeezed in my last appointments. Hair by @shawncutlergroup, I’ve been discussing with @mavisang_sc on the hair colour I wanted for my big day and we managed to do a round of colour toning beforehand so my hair wouldn’t look fried! Lashes @lashingmy, I knew I would cry like a mad woman and fake lashes weren’t going to cut it. I can’t keep trying to paste falsies everytime my eyes would well up, so I tried their new LED technology and even after 3 weeks they’ve stayed on! Stay tuned for my review soon! Nails by @apronbay, one of my inspirations was a white cat eye with milky tips. I wanted something that was subtle and classic at the same time. Boy, did they deliver! 💅🏻 Skin by @clique_clinic, thank you @drtiffanytee for helping my skin with treatments to tighten my pores and get that extra glow! No gatekeeping here! I tried out LED Lashes and I’m SOLD!! I knew I would be a ball of tears at my wedding and I needed my lashes to remain intact. @lashingmy offers this method of curing your lashes so they stay and it was the best decision with all the pre-events and mini events of my wedding. Had an amazing chat with a friend recently about how she’s stepped away from her “mistakes” and stepping into new opportunities! It’s such an exciting space to be in because every experience moving forward is an opportunity to learn and grow. I applauded her for having the courage to try and the heart to believe in herself. I had to hold my head up high with some of my poor choices in life, but I realised that in doing so, it brought me a lot of resilience. To fall and get up again, gave me the confidence to know that I was headed in the right direction. The only person that can get you out of your pain is you.
