“Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.” – Khalil Gibran Happy birthday my beloved Eliot. Although I’m not with you, I’m in Tuscany, the place of your birth. Thinking of you, and all that you are to dad and me, to your family, and to all who love you. Have a wonderful birthday. Miss you and can’t wait to see you.

So many thank yous after last month’s fundraiser. My first to fellow host, Robin Birley for generously staging his biannual Conservation Dinner at Oswald’s, benefiting @rainforest_fund and many of his wonderful animal welfare charities. With huge names in conservation taking to the stage, it was an amazing night. Special thanks to co-hosts @JP.Davidson @stephenfryactually @zacgoldsmithofficial for their participation … and of course to @theofficialsting for performing the most beautiful set after dinner. A staggering $700K USD was raised, which will help combat illegal deforestation and protect vulnerable indigenous rainforest communities worldwide. We could not be more grateful. My personal thanks also to the inimitable @sebastiaosalgadooficial for donating one of his most precious photographs of the Brazilian Amazon for auction, alongside other lots donated by @rifat_ozbek and @peaceparks to name but a few. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who generously contributed and for making this such an incredible night.

The dog days of summer are always made better with a chilled glass of wine! 🍷 #winewednesday
This week for #femalefilmmakerfriday, I want to shine the spotlight on writer and director @coralie_fargeat for her latest film, #TheSubstance! Coralie’s career took off with the critically acclaimed Revenge, a visceral thriller that received widespread praise for its fresh take on the genre and its powerful feminist undertones. Before that, she directed the short film Reality , a thought-provoking piece exploring identity and technology. Her film The Substance follows Elisabeth Sparkle, played by @demimoore, who faces a devastating blow on her 50th birthday as her boss fires her from her renowned aerobics show. Amid her distress, a laboratory offers her a substance which promises to transform her into an enhanced version of herself. Join me in celebrating Coralie Fargeat and her incredible contributions to cinema!

Shining the spotlight on writer and director @ishy_night this #femalefilmmakerfriday for her upcoming debut feature #TheWatchers! As a young girl, Ishana grew up on her father’s sets, learning the ropes of filmmaking at a young age. Finding interest in directing her own projects, she went on to study at NYU graduating from the Tisch School of the Arts. After getting her education, Ishana worked closely with her father, writing several episodes of the horror TV series Servant, and directed the second unit on the films Old and Knock at the Cabin. Her latest project, The Watchers, is a horror film based on the novel by A.M. Shine which follows a 28-year-old artist that gets stranded in an untouched forest in western Ireland. Finding shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are stalked by mysterious creatures every night. Congratulations on your debut feature, Ishana- it sounds absolutely chilling!

This week for #femalefilmmakerfriday, I am spotlighting Anne Sewitsky, an acclaimed Norwegian film director, for her new show Presumed Innocent on @appletv! Anne is best known for her 2010 film Happy, Happy, which garnered international attention as Norway’s submission for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 84th Academy Awards. Although it didn’t make the final shortlist, it highlighted her unique voice in film. Her 2015 film Homesick was also a notable contender, representing Norway for the 88th Academy Awards. In television, Anne’s directorial skills shone in the 2019 Black Mirror episode Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too, as well as in the Castle Rock series, where she directed episodes like Ties That Bind and The Laughing Place. Currently, Anne is making waves once again as one of the directors of the hit show Presumed Innocent. The show centres around a horrific murder that upends the Chicago prosecuting attorney’s office when one of its own is suspected of the crime-leaving the accused fighting to keep his family together. Keep an eye on this thrilling project, as Anne continues to bring her distinctive vision to the screen!
