Alexandra Munroe Instagram - Tonight, I had the enormous honor of receiving the 2024 Japan Society Award, presented by my dearest colleague Jane DeBevoise and my patron saint Jack Wadsworth. I worked at Japan Society twice over my career. This institution shaped my ambitions; taught me how to do work that mattered; and instilled a conviction that the arts are not a separate phenomenon of appreciation - but rather, they are essential to a wider understanding of any country’s history, politics, economy, and society - the arts are what the great Langdon Warner called “the stream of the spirit.” My exhibitions and writings have been inflected by this wholistic approach that defines Japan Society’s mission. Sean Ono Lennon sent this for us to read at the ceremony tonight. ❤️🌟❤️ Alexandra has been a close friend of my mother and I for over twenty years. She was ahead of the herd when it came to recognizing that much of my mother’s career had been overlooked. She played an integral role in helping the world understand the breadth and depth of Yoko Ono’s work. I worked at Japan Society twice over my career. This institution shaped my ambitions; taught me how to do work that mattered; and instilled a conviction that the arts are not a separate phenomenon of appreciation - but rather, they are essential to a wider understanding of any country’s history, politics, economy, and society - the arts are what the great Langdon Warner called “the stream of the spirit.” My exhibitions and writings have been inflected by this wholistic approach that defines Japan Society’s mission. Sean Ono Lennon sent this for us to read at the ceremony tonight. ❤️🌟❤️ Alexandra has been a close friend of my mother and I for over twenty years. She was ahead of the herd when it came to recognizing that much of my mother’s career had been overlooked. Trump incites mob attack in the most symbolic citadel of democracy during the most solemn government ceremony. They feel betrayed by the erosion and now spectacular ruin of the democratic values America stood for in the world, for the world. They worry what power this heinous example will give to the terrifying autocracies many of them fight against each day. The international consequences will take decades to repair. They feel betrayed by the erosion and now spectacular ruin of the democratic values America stood for in the world, for the world. They worry what power this heinous example will give to the terrifying autocracies many of them fight against each day. The international consequences will take decades to repair.
