Chris Sharma Instagram - So many things to say right now that I don’t even know where to start.
Climbing Sleeping Lion this week was an incredible culmination to a deep physical and mental experience and one of the best and hardest climbs of my life!
After almost 30 years, it’s incredible to still feel so much passion for climbing. The places it takes us are incredible (on the outside and on the inside).
So much gratitude to my family , friends , and an amazing team for the support along the way but especially to my wife @alarconjimena ❤️❤️❤️for all her patience and support and to my kids Alana and Julian.
And thanks to you all!🙏🙏🙏

I wanted to dedicate this climb to all the middle aged people. I know how much of a challenge it is to try and balance it all (and believe me I’m such a beginner in so many ways). I hope this can inspire you to awaken your own sleeping lion and claw your way to your dreams!

Stay tuned for some send footage coming soon!

Thanks to all the competitors and organizers for rising to the moment and putting on an incredible show! I also personally competed for the first time in several years and it was incredible to feel the rush and intensity , as well as the camaraderie amongst everyone. Also thanks to everyone who came out to make it such a success. A special appreciation to @mikebbeck for summoning from the depths to bring this dream of ours back to life. You killed it man!
Look out for future stops of @psicocomp in the near future!

Hasn’t seen so many ascents since. People are wasting their time trying find knee bars etc. while the real secret beta is right in front of their face 😅

I found and scanned some old shots of @chris_sharma today. As I was looking through them, I was reminded just how different Chris’ climbing style was from other top climbers from that era. It’s true that his feet slipped and cut a lot when he was starting out. It’s also true that his technique was more dynamic than anyone else’s at the time and that he progressed through the grades faster than anyone ever had—in just two years he went from 5.11 to 5.14c. That would be impressive in any era, but 30 years ago nothing like that had happened and it scrambled a lot of brains.
1 2. 1st ascent of Necessary Evil (5.14c) at age 15.
3. 1st ascent of Yo Mamma (13a) at The Pinnacles, 1995.
4. On an early ascent of Lardbutt (13c), 1994 (age 13).
5. 1st ascent of Ubermensch (14a) Pinnacles, 1996.
6. Mickeys Beach Arete (13c) 1995.
7. Surf Safari (13d) 1995.
8. Getting a big head, 1994.
9. Supertweak (14c) 2nd ascent, 1996.
10. Trying Biographie extension (5.15a) in 1997 (he made the FA 4 years later).

3. 1st ascent of Yo Mamma (13a) at The Pinnacles, 1995.

5. 1st ascent of Ubermensch (14a) Pinnacles, 1996.

7. Surf Safari (13d) 1995.

Chris Sharma Instagram - The season has come to an end for me on my project “Le Blond” in Oliana. Its been a great run and I feel like I made some important progress. One of the hardest things I’ve seriously tried with out a doubt. One of the biggest challenges was building my power endurance to be able to climb the bottom (9b) section easily to be able to imagine linking it with the upper boulder problem.
The daily grind on something so hard for me can be mentally really challenging and one thing that was really cool to explore was working to celebrate the small progressions (no matter how small they might be). I’m really happy how I was able to use this approach to stay psyched day in day out through the last 4 months.
It’s been great to bring this thing back to life after a number of years off it and on the same note find my own personal groove and purpose within climbing. I’m very happy to have built a strong base in this climb and I plan use that to keep the focus for the coming seasons. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of my journey out there this season. I look forward to throwing down with you all again in the next season!
For those of you interested in the difficulty of Le Blond have a look at the breakdown from Darth Grader. I have to say , that grades are the least sexy part of our sport but for those of us that live and breathe climbing it’s pretty interesting to geek out on that stuff and Darth Grader is an interesting tool to give a bit of objectivity to it all. What do you think?

Putting in the time on “LeBlond” in Oliana the other day. This route is the final unfinished chapter of all the climbing I’ve done at this amazing wall. So cool to still be coming back to this spot after so many years and this route climbs so incredibly.

Chris Sharma Instagram - Chris Sharma Just Sent His Hardest Deep Water Solo to Date

On Tuesday, November 7, Chris Sharma finished off ‘Black Pearl,’ in Soller, Mallorca, which he says may be harder than ‘Es Pontas’ and ‘Alasha.’ He has been working the line on and off for the last four years.

“It represented a progression in deep water soloing for me, and it was a very personal goal that I’ve pursued over the last four years,” says Sharma. “It's one of a handful of routes that have been on my bucket list.”

Visit the Tenaya blog for details and more ways to help defend our oceans (link in bio).

CLIMB FOR THE OCEAN

There’s still time to participate!

Tenaya is proud to partner with global NGO @seashepherd for the CLIMB FOR THE OCEAN project to raise awareness about our amazing oceans.

We challenge you to climb a quarter nautical mile (463 meters / 1,500 feet) this month to raise awareness and funds to help protect the oceans.

Participate in the challenge and log your progress through the @vertical.life.climbing app.

You can climb in any style you’d like—indoors, outdoors, sport, multi-pitch, boulders, and of course, deep-water soloing! There are great prizes to be won. Good luck!

That would be impressive in any era, but 30 years ago nothing like that had happened and it scrambled a lot of brains. 1 2. 1st ascent of Necessary Evil (5.14c) at age 15. 3. 1st ascent of Yo Mamma (13a) at The Pinnacles, 1995. 4. Chris Sharma - 13K Likes - The season has come to an end for me on my project “Le Blond” in Oliana.

Good luck!

Visit the Tenaya blog for details and more ways to help defend our oceans (link in bio).

Participate in the challenge and log your progress through the @vertical.life.climbing app. You can climb in any style you’d like—indoors, outdoors, sport, multi-pitch, boulders, and of course, deep-water soloing! There are great prizes to be won. Good luck!
