Juliet Rylance Instagram - 2020.
California’s high desert has long been a home, a place of refuge for me. quite by chance, I was fortunate to spend the first lockdown at home here with my family. As studios and theaters went dark, we arrived in hats and scarves, the land still barren with winter, and watched the pandemic unfold with the spring, and later, the harsh heat of summer.
The Mojave is a primordial landscape of browns and blues, all rock and sand. Creosote scatter vast swathes of prairie to the feet of craggy ridges, that rise toward mountains capped in white. Yuccas stretch their arms toward the immense sky. It can feel like the beginning of time or the end of it.
Desolation in one moment, reveals itself in the next to be teeming with life; Ant colonies abound, bees hum in the wild sage. Black widows weave their webs under the eaves as Jack rabbits leap across the emergent spring bloom. Burrowing owls dart and dive as brave shoots push through rock and burst into florescent pinks and greens. And when the air becomes too hot to breath, the flash floods arrive drenching the parched earth, and fields of green appear and vanish just as quickly.
Basic acts of survival are part of daily life here, community essential. We look for what’s alive and pay attention to it when it comes.
If this hard land has taught me anything, it’s this: Change and loss come hand in hand. What’s emergent is always enfolding before us.
Bear witness. It is an essential act.
The world reveals itself to us at every turn and sometimes, all that is asked is that we receive it.
In all its beauty and desolation.

Juliet Rylance Instagram - In celebration of the International Day of Peace, Words of Peace is a one-night summit of non-violence, hosted by Mark Rylance. A gathering of actors, artists, and musicians, for an evening of song, poetry and prose.

In support of UN humanitarian aid for refugees, the company hope to draw the audience into a brief community of spirit. A ceremony of aspiration, praise, determination and joy, thus we remember that any day of peace in this all too troubled world is a rare one.

Performed on the candlelit stage of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare’s Globe, we invite you to join us for Words of Peace; said out loud, yearly on the vigil, until these words have consequence.

The evening will feature performances from Mark Rylance, Simon Russell Beale, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Joely Richardson, Naomi Ackie, Juliet Rylance and more, The performers will also be joined by members from Intermission Youth, the London youth theatre company which has been transforming young lives through theatre and performance since 2008.

The evening’s program is created by David Conrad, directed by Tamara Harvey, with original music by Claire van Kampen, and produced by Barbara Römer and Juliet Rylance.

All profits will be donated by Words of Peace to UNESCO and UNHCR, towards causes benefiting peace-building and refugees of war.

This event will be filmed.

Words of Peace takes place this year on September 24th, the first Sunday after the UN established International Day of Peace, “a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.”

The Great Conjunction: Saturn and Jupiter (and her moons, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto and Lo), conjunct for us on Earth in Aquarius for the first time in 200 years, and closest to each other since July 16th, 1623 (the year the first folio was published).

“Our remedies oft in ourselves do lie,
Which we ascribe to heaven: the fated sky
Gives us free scope”

⁣We caught a glimpse of Saturn and Jupiter on Sunday night over the Thames but felt them ever more strongly last night. Enchanting. ✨

Caption : 2020.

Juliet Rylance - 538 Likes - In celebration of the International Day of Peace, Words of Peace is a one-night summit of non-violence, hosted by Mark Rylance.

Juliet Rylance - 538 Likes - In celebration of the International Day of Peace, Words of Peace is a one-night summit of non-violence, hosted by Mark Rylance.

⠀
“Our remedies oft in ourselves do lie,
Which we ascribe to heaven: the fated sky
Gives us free scope”
~Helena, All’s Well That Ends Well.

⁣We caught a glimpse of Saturn and Jupiter on Sunday night over the Thames but felt them ever more strongly last night. Enchanting. ✨
