Kent Monkman Instagram - Just Dropped: Kent Monkman

The month’s Drop features six unique works from the series ‘Portraits of a Legend’, along with ‘How the West Was Won’, a watercolor hand-painted etching available in a limited edition of 30 — each by Kent Monkman.

The works in the Drop include imagery of Monkman’s gender-fluid alter ego Miss Chief Eagle Testickle — a time-travelling, shape-shifting, supernatural being who reverses the colonial gaze to challenge received notions of history and Indigenous peoples.

The six acrylic paintings in the series ‘Portraits of a Legend’ depict Miss Chief Eagle Testickle in her signature dreamcatcher bra and high heels, hunting for love and communing with her kin: the indigenous animals of Turtle Island (North America).

In ‘How the West Was Won’, Miss Chief Eagle Testickle dominates a cowboy against the backdrop of a desert, an open sky, and the imposing sandstone buttes of Monument Valley.

Caption : Just Dropped: Kent Monkman The month’s Drop features six unique works from the series ‘Portraits of a Legend’, along with ‘How the West Was Won’, a watercolor hand-painted etching available in a limited edition of 30 — each by Kent Monkman.
