Lyle Lovett Instagram - Legendary musician and actor Lyle Lovett wears his own personal Pure Open Road in Alabaster. Shot on location at the iconic @gruenehall in Gruene, Texas, where Lovett played some of his earliest gigs as a musician.

Over a career that spans more than four decades, @lyle_lovett solidified his status as one of country music’s most iconic and iconoclastic voices, crafting songs that defy categorization, borrowing from jazz, gospel, Texas swing, and the blues to create a hybrid sound that’s all his own. A born-and-bred Texan who grew up outside Houston in the town of Klein, Lovett combines a veneration for tradition with a healthy sense of irreverence, as witnessed by his playful and often mischievous lyrics. It all comes from an authentic place, he says: “I write about things that feel real to me, things that really happened, things I really see. I don’t have to write songs. I just have to write them down.”

Those songs have taken Lovett from the Grammys to Hollywood, including memorable turns in four Robert Altman films. While he’s been known to wear a Prada suit with his Stetson and custom-made cowboy boots, he’s also a longtime rancher and rider (with the scars to prove it) and remains a true Texas gentleman to his core, with an ever-expanding personal collection of Stetson Open Roads. His first was inherited from his grandfather in 1979. His most recent? The Limited Edition 20X in Butterscotch that he picked up just last fall. “My grandfather always wore an Open Road to church,” Lovett says. “So to me, the Open Road was always the dress version of a cowboy hat. It has a cattleman’s crease in the crown and a conservative brim, so you’re not showing off.”

Lyle Lovett Instagram - Telluride, CO, 6/23/24: Thanks to the @telluridebluegrassfestival for inviting the Large Band and me back to play. It’s an honor to be included in such a stellar lineup. We loved hearing @jerrydouglas and @tommyemmanuelcgp and @mollytuttle and Golden Highway. We loved that our dear friend, the King of Telluride, @sambushband, was willing to stay to the end of the festival to sit in with us and play Same Ol’ River. I love you, Sam. Congratulations on your 50th Telluride!
Lyle Lovett Instagram - We’re counting down the days until Lyle Lovett returns for an incredible 25th appearance on July 9! A 2018 Red Rocks Hall of Fame inductee, Lyle first stepped onto our stage (and into our hearts) in 1990 before returning to headline with his Large Band in 1992, establishing himself as a Red Rocks regular ever since. 🎉 Backstage with one of his many his Piece of the Rock Awards in 2005
🎻 His Large Band got even larger in 2023, appearing with the Colorado Symphony
📆 See you in two weeks

Lyle Lovett Instagram - Happy Easter! Join me this morning at 8:15 at @trinitykleinlutheranchurch, in person, or online at TrinityKlein.org. I’ll be singing with our choir and orchestra “Christ Arose,” written by Robert Lowry in 1874. Dr. Bill Brusick, Trinity Klein’s Minister of Music, selected the hymn for this year’s Easter Service. I’m honored whenever my home church asks me to sing. The Senior Choir’s Dave Senechal took this photo with his drone.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - Gene Elders played in the Large Band for ten years, until 2009. All of us in the band and crew were deeply saddened by his passing last week. Gene’s main job was playing in @georgestrait’s Ace in the Hole Band. He joined George in 1984 and played with George all these years. But because George’s concert schedule and mine didn’t overlap from 1999 to 2009, Gene was able to play with us in the Large Band too. Gene was always stellar onstage, and he was as kind offstage as he was talented. He and I rode the same bus. You really get to know people when you ride a bus with them. Gene Elders was thoughtful, kind, and good, through and through. His dry sense of humor always made us laugh. He was a joy to be with. His mom would come to our shows when we played near her in Colorado, and his brother, motorcycle stunt rider, “Deathwish” Dan Elders, would come to our shows in the Midwest. Gene was an artist all around. In addition to his fiddle, he was an expert with his camera. He had an early Canon digital, pocket-sized ELPH camera, and he took wonderful pictures every day we were on tour—of places and people and of us in the band. He inspired me to get my camera out and start shooting again. He had an amazing eye for light, composition, and for humanity. I loved seeing the world as he saw it. @micartwil took these pictures of Gene with @kraussviktor, @keithsewellmusic, @russellkunkel, and me. April gave me that belt buckle in 2002, so Michael must have taken them around then. I cherish my memories of Gene, and I pray for his family’s comfort. I loved him, and I miss him already.

Lyle Lovett Instagram - The Large Band and I are officially on the road. Thanks to @jamielenfestey for getting us started in Albuquerque last night. The audience was stellar, as were our special guests @billhearnemusic and Doug Hudson and Russell Fory, from @bandgeckos. The Large Band and I are excited to be in Telluride tonight for the @telluridebluegrassfestival. Riding the bus across West Texas through Marfa, Valentine, and Van Horn to Albuquerque was a great way to ease into road life. I still love to look at the world through its windows. My friend and hero @michaelmartinmurphey puts it all in perspective in one of my favorite songs, West Texas Highway. Thanks, Murph. Thanks, you all, for allowing the Large Band and me to get together and do what we love to do. We look forward to seeing you on the road.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - The Connecticut/New York State Line, 5/1/24: @lisaloeb and I start our two-week tour tonight in Ridgefield, CT, at the @ridgefieldplayhouse. I’m already enjoying this beautiful part of our country.

Lyle Lovett Instagram - @gruenehall, New Braunfels, Texas, 1/24/24: Thank y’all for coming to see the Large Band and me at Gruene Hall. We loved being there with you all.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - The Reverend Birdseye Maple, Maple Byrne, @emmylou_harris_ ‘s extraordinary longtime guitar tech and the Large Band’s first tour manager, was nice enough to come to our sets on @journeythroughsong aboard the @norwegiancruiseline #nclpearl. I couldn’t help but snap a shot of him. Maple and I have been friends since the early 80s when we met through my opening shows for Emmy. His first tour as my tour manager was in March of 1988, the first time I travelled with a horn section, the first time I called the band the Large Band. Thanks for your years of friendship, Maple. Thanks for being there for us on Cayamo this year.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - Escape to the beach November 1, 2, and 3, 2024, for Moon Crush Cowboy Moon. Join @jasonisbell, @littlefeat_official, @mollytuttle, @the_mavericks, me and my Large Band, and more, for a musical vacation in Miramar Beach, Florida. Lyle Lovett Instagram - @fremontslo, San Luis Obispo, 3/10/24: Thank you for being such an enthusiastic and attentive audience last night in San Luis Obispo. At 779 seats, the Fremont is intimate enough to feel like a big colorful living room. The Acoustic Group and I enjoyed being there.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - Thanks to @journeythroughsong for having the Almost Acoustic Group and me back on Cayamo. Our tour manager, @jaysmix, took this video of the amazing Jim Cox during our set this morning. Thank you for being such wonderful audiences on the @norwegiancruiseline Pearl. Lyle Lovett Instagram - @raviniafestival, Highland Park, IL, 6/30/24: Thank y’all for being a great audience and for tuning into @93xrt. @martylennartzxrt was nice enough to introduce the Large Band and me that night. Marty’s and XRT’s support means the world. Thanks to @clintblack for doing the show with us. Being able to often see friends who live in different parts of the country is one of the great bonuses of touring. I met novelist and journalist Laurence Gonzales in 1996 when he interviewed me for @mensjournal. We became friends initially because of our mutual love of motorcycling. We went riding together with my parents and @chrishainestours in Baja; Laurence spent time with us in Klein. I watched his daughters grow into beautiful adults with families of their own. Here he is Sunday on the steps of my @senatorscoaches bus with his wife, Debbie, and son, Jonas. Deb brought her homemade enchiladas and salsa and El Milagro tortilla chips; Jonas brought the pure joy and enthusiasm only a 21-year-young man can. Laurence filled me in on his latest book. I enjoyed catching up with them at Ravinia and snapping a few shots. Real friends are a rare treasure.

Lyle Lovett Instagram - @tajmahalblues’ version of Sweet Home Chicago played in my head as I woke to this view on our overnight drive from @uptowntheaterkc in Kansas City, MO, to @raviniafestival, in Highland Park, IL. I love seeing our country. The Large Band and I start playing our Ravinia set Sunday evening at 7 and stop at 8:30. Come early if you’d like to see us. Thanks to the folks @93xrt for their support all these years. Thanks to you all for being a great audience last night in Kansas City.

Lyle Lovett Instagram - @sunset_cultural_center, Carmel, CA, 3/12/24: The 700-seat Sunset Cultural Center was built in 1926 as the Sunset School and purchased by the City of Carmel in 1965 to become Carmel’s home for classical and popular music. It’s a wonderful-sounding room. Thank y’all for being a great audience for the Acoustic Group and me.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - @uptowntheaterkc, Kansas City, MO, 6/28/24: The Uptown has been one of my favorite venues since James Gilmer, John Hagen, and I first played there in 1987, opening a show for @asleepatthewheel1970. Thank y’all for being an incredible audience last Friday night. We can’t wait to see you again.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - @thegrand1894operahouse, Galveston, Texas, 1/22/24: Thanks to Maureen Patton and The Grand for inviting the Large Band and me back for two nights this week. We always have a great time working with Maureen, and she always has a great audience for us. Thank you all for being there.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - Victoria Fine Arts Center, Victoria, Texas, 1/20/24: Thanks to the @victoriasymphony and Maestro @darryl.one for inviting the Large Band and me to be a part of Victoria Symphony’s 50th Anniversary. I appreciate the orchestra’s being so good natured and going along with all my jokes. Maestro One was an inspiration to us all. Thank you for being a wonderful audience, for supporting the Victoria Symphony and us the way you do.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - Lucas Oil Live at @winstar_world, Thackerville, OK, 1/19/24: Thanks to all the folks at WinStar for hosting the Large Band and me last night. You all were a wonderful audience, WinStar’s Lucas Oil Live is a state-of-the-art theater, a pleasure to play. Thanks for getting our winter Large-Band run off to a great start.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - @foxtheatrerwc, Redwood City, CA, 3/13/24: It felt great to be back at the Fox. One of my favorite memories is playing there three consecutive nights in 2008 with Guy Clark, Joe Ely, and John Hiatt. Nathaniel Kunkel recorded those shows and my late friend Vasco Lucas Nunes filmed them. The recordings and video have never been released. I hope someday to make that happen. Thank you for coming to see the Acoustic Group and me last Wednesday. We enjoyed playing for you all.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - It was an early flight home yesterday on @alaskaair from @flysfo after playing @cityofsanramon. @jaysmix and I are winging our way back to the tour now on @united to play in Grass Valley, CA, tonight, at @thecenterforthearts. We look forward to seeing y’all.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - @norwegiancruiseline Pearl, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, 3/3/24: It’s the @journeythroughsong community that makes Cayamo so special to play. @sxmliveloud makes its passengers feel so at home and so welcome, folks keep coming back year after year. Four or so rows back on the left side of the picture, the man in the green ball cap, is my friend John O’Neill, from Dublin, Ireland. I met John on the first Cayamo. He and his wife, Noeleen, come every year. Getting to know and spend time with the people who support our music—on Cayamo and around the world—is a privilege for all of us who play.

Lyle Lovett Instagram - It’s a privilege working with talented production folks like Nathan Hiltner. @photosbynanci took this of Nathan as he introduced our show Monday, May 6, in Nashua, NH, at @nashuacenterforthearts. I met Nathan in 2018 when he started working with @john_hiatt_music. These days Nathan works with @tylerhubbard, but he was nice enough to give up days off from his regular job to join @lisaloeb and me for part of our tour. Nathan’s specialty is taking care of guitars, but he knows production from top to bottom. He can do anything that needs to be done. I’m lucky to work with people who not only can do anything the job requires, but who are willing to do whatever it takes to make the day and the show run smoothly. @jaysmix is our Tour Manager, working remotely on this tour. He’s out with John Hiatt right now. @thatsteveweiss is our Front of House Engineer, our sound man; @matt_pribisco is our Production Manager and also runs monitors; @kirk.hamann is our @clairglobal System Tech; Denny Autry drives our @senatorscoaches and sits in on piano when he doesn’t have to drive us overnight; Jack Gibbs unloads, loads, and drives our truck every night from venue to venue; Brian Whitman handles our online tech; Stephanie Colbert is our Tour Accountant. Stephanie works remotely. Booking agent extraordinaire Dan Weiner and his team at @wassermanmusic book all our shows; Kristen Mitchell, of Wasserman, does our tour marketing. @tendency designs every poster, ad mat, album cover, and visual; @micartwil does my album and PR photos; @lizkreutz takes live photos; @waynermiller55 shoots live video; Greg Schneider, Sara Lanni, and their team at Official Community help with tour marketing and handle our ticket presales. Jeff Gillman, Robin Hellerman, Aida Megrikian, and their team at @gelfandrennertfeldman do our business management—they handle payroll and all the money; Carla Sacks and Catherine Snead of Sacks & Co. do our PR; Erik Molk of Truetone Media does our radio promotion; Hi Fidelity Entertainment does our merch; and April Kimble counsels me, guides me, and helps me enjoy the blessings of my job and my life to their fullest. I’m grateful to all these people for everything they do.

Thanks, Suzzi!

Lyle Lovett Instagram - Thanks to @pacificsymphony, Maestro @enricolopezyanez, @segerstromarts, and to all of you for getting our California tour off to a great start last night. Hearing @russellkunkel, @leland.sklar, Jim Cox, @jeffwhitebluegrass, @jamesdharrah, @stubobduncan, Willie Greene, Jr., @lamontvanhook, and @arnoldmcculler together with the Pacific Symphony was a treat for me. I felt as if I was floating on air. Thanks for being a wonderful audience. I’m looking forward to tonight.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - @lutherburbankcenter, Santa Rosa, CA, 3/20/24: I first played the Luther Burbank Center in 1989, with the Large Band on a tour with Leo Kottke. It’s been my most-frequented venue in Santa Rosa ever since. I’ve played there over 20 times in different combinations—the Large Band, the Acoustic Group, and with Guy Clark, Joe Ely, and John Hiatt in a guitar-pull format. Jeremy French and his staff always take great care of us, and you folks in Sonoma County are always a great audience. Thank you for bringing the Acoustic Group and me back this tour.

Thanks to @billhearnemusic for sitting in on The Truck Song and on Walk Through the Bottomland; thanks to Doug Hudson and Russell Fory of @bandgeckos for singing with the Large Band and me on Closing Time. The band and I look forward to playing @telluridebluegrassfestival tonight and to seeing our longtime friend @sambushband in his 50th anniversary of playing the festival. Congratulations, Sam!
Lyle Lovett Instagram - @uph_saratoga, Saratoga Springs, NY, 5/2/24: Thank y’all for bringing @lisaloeb and me to Saratoga Springs. You were a wonderful audience. We enjoyed being in your beautiful part of the world.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - @nathan_on_guitars, @senatorscoaches, @chateaustemichelle, Woodinville, WA, 7/14/24: Jay Wright, @jaysmix, Large Band Tour Manager, took this of Nathan Hiltner before our show Sunday. Nathan is our Assistant Tour Manager and Guitar Tech and takes great care of the band and me. Our production crew this year is lean and efficient. @matt_pribisco is our Production Manager and Monitor Engineer, @thatsteveweiss is our Front-of-House Engineer (our sound man), @rpmvw72 is our Lighting Director, @outlawmatt and @michaelrickerby are our Stage Techs, and @parksandwruck and @oneoftheshyerfolk are our @clairglobal Sound System Techs. @morgenbentsen is our Merchandise Manager; Albert Harrilal drives the bus I ride. The crew has everything ready for the band and me when we show up for soundcheck. They make everything work and make it look easy. They never show the slightest hint of the effort it takes to unload the trucks and install our sound and lights and set up our stage gear every show day. Then they take it apart every night, load it back in the trucks, and start over the next morning. We all appreciate their hard work and their cheerful dispositions. They make our days better; they make our shows possible. We couldn’t do it without them.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - @thecenterforthearts, Grass Valley, CA, 3/19/24: Thank you for bringing the Acoustic Group and me to Grass Valley.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - @grandtheaterwausau, Wausau, WI, 7/1/24: Thanks to our promoter, @everstag, for hosting the Large Band and me in Wausau. Thank y’all for being a great audience. We loved playing the historic Grand Theater.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - Thanks to @lisaloeb for playing these last two weeks with me. Thanks to all our promoters and venues for having us. Our production crew, @matt_pribisco, @thatsteveweiss, @nathan_on_the_internet, @nathan_on_guitars, @kirk.hamann, @jaysmix, Stephanie Colbert, Denny Autry, and Jack Gibbs, made it smooth and easy for us every day. @tenandtwo’s spending a few days with us was a great bonus. Thanks to @clairglobal, @senatorscoaches, and Roadshow Trucking. Thanks to our special guests, @heustis_ , @elizabeth.mitchell.official, @steveforbert, and Denny Autry for their generous and delightful contributions. Thanks to our friends, family, and to you all for being there, making us feel at home everywhere we were.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - @harriscenter, Folsom, CA, 3/14/24: The band and I had never been to Folsom, so thank y’all for making us feel so welcome. The Harris Center at Folsom Lake College is a beautiful place to play.
Lyle Lovett Instagram - @uptown_theatre_napa, Napa, CA, 3/15/24: The Uptown Theatre was kind enough to book the Acoustic Group and me for two nights last week. The folks who run the Uptown take great care of us and our production crew and make putting up the show easy. It’s a pleasure to play there and to be able to spend two days in such a beautiful part of the world. The audiences both nights were stellar. It was an exciting weekend—Jim Cox’s birthday Saturday—and @ramblinjackofficial surprised the band and me Saturday night, knocking on the door of the bus about 15 minutes before the show to let us know he was there. We asked him to sit in. He sang Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” and Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land.” Ramblin’ Jack was in great form as always, charming and compelling as ever. We and everyone loved seeing him and hearing him. Because of our short drives last week, our @senatorscoaches driver, Denny Autry, was able to sit in with us on piano four nights—Redwood City, Folsom, and both nights in Napa. Denny toured for years playing gospel piano with The McGruders. The band and I ask him to join us any night he doesn’t have to sleep during the show to drive us overnight. Denny’s an amazing musician.

Lyle Lovett Instagram - @johnsonhall1864, Gardiner, ME, 5/8/24: Johnson Hall Opera House is a beautiful 400-seat venue. The acoustics reminded me of being in a recording studio. Thank you for bringing @lisaloeb and me to Gardiner for the first time and for being a great audience.

Lyle Lovett Instagram - A page from the May/June issue of Berkshire Magazine. The caption reads, “Lyle Lovett majored in journalism and German at Texas A&M, and he loves taking pictures. ‘Depending on the season, Stockbridge looks really different. Even if I’m taking pictures of the same buildings or the same landmarks, it may look different from time to time, and also depending on the time of day. I like to take pictures of people better than anything else.’ Favorite locations include The Red Lion Inn, where he photographed Sarah Eustis, as well as Stockbridge Coffee & Tea, where he photographed Abbey Keith and her brother, Noah, pictured here separately in the coffeeshop and bookstore.” All images by Lovett, courtesy of the photographer. Lyle Lovett - 4.9K Likes - Legendary musician and actor Lyle Lovett wears his own personal Pure Open Road in Alabaster.

Lyle Lovett - 4.9K Likes - Legendary musician and actor Lyle Lovett wears his own personal Pure Open Road in Alabaster.

Lyle Lovett - 2.1K Likes - Happy Easter!

Lyle Lovett - 2.1K Likes - Gene Elders played in the Large Band for ten years, until 2009.

Lyle Lovett - 627 Likes - It’s a privilege working with talented production folks like Nathan Hiltner.

Lyle Lovett - 504 Likes - @uptown_theatre_napa, Napa, CA, 3/15/24: The Uptown Theatre was kind enough to book the Acoustic Group and me for two nights last week.
