Voters in Kansas came out in droves on Tuesday to tell the Supreme Court where they could go. And yet, by this past Thu, a mere 5 days after Biden’s 1:46 pm Sun afternoon announcement of him ending his re-election campaign and handing the candidacy over to his VP, Kamala Harris, the Wall Street Journal (no friend to women, People of Color, young voters, the poor or the working class)—this grand oracle of Capitalism, conservative ideology and the force that is Rupert Murdoch—ran this stunning historic headline, truly one for the ages: “HARRIS ERASES TRUMP’S LEAD, WSJ POLL FINDS” Kamala Harris, the daughter of Jamaican and Indian immigrants, two genius parents, was now, in 2024, accepting the all-but-certain nomination to be the Democratic Party candidate for President of the United States. And, it should be noted, the chance to become the first woman ever to hold this esteemed office. Yes, that was just one week ago. A euphoric nation exploded in a joyful belief that finally the promise of the American Dream was no longer just a “promise” nor a “dream” but a roaring reality that immediately took off like a rocket. And each day last week saw a new record set for a Presidential campaign—for campaign contributions ($350M!), volunteer sign-ups (170K!), Zoom calls (160K participants!), new voter registrations (40K!) and more! Trump is furious. He is planning to sue to “keep Harris off the ballot.” Good luck with that. It won’t work. Apparently, somewhere along the way, Trump Van Winkle must have fallen into a deep sleep & missed the memo that many white men like him also seemed to miss: “America is no longer your America, the exclusive club for the gender prone to war, violent outbursts, and ‘mansplaining’—and yet still holding the majority of the wealth, the property, the tee times and most of the seats in Congress.” That America is being shown the door. In 2004, you invited me to sit next to you in the presidential box at the Democratic National Convention in Boston. It was truly one of the great honors of my life. It also did you no favors, and in that moment I wondered why would you want to suffer the attacks for placing beside you the person who just a year earlier was booed off the stage at the Oscars for dressing down the commander in chief as a war criminal on the fifth night of the Iraq War. But you didn’t care about the political reaction to you cozying up to me, the backlash you’d get from the 70% of the American public who supported the invasion of Iraq. You weren’t offended by me who had stood in front of a billion people stating that we were being lied into this war, that Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11, that we would find zero weapons of mass destruction, and that thousands of American soldiers and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians were about to die. In fact, you agreed with me. I had a great conversation that night with you and Rosalynn. Your running commentary on the Democrats was priceless. Your sense of humor was making it all bearable for me. The news a couple weeks ago that you’ve decided to enter hospice — an “end of life” hospice as the news reports called it — was devastating. I broke down and cried. People will say that at 98 years old you’ve been blessed to live such a long life. And of course, that is true. But I’m not crying over you. I’m crying for us. We need 10,000 more of you, not one less as you leave us. Pundits will continue to “explain” and misunderstand your presidency. Michael Moore Instagram - Mike’s Midterm Tsunami Truth 40: We win either way today because love and kindness always wins out over hate and greed. Sometimes it takes a while. And when we win today (or tomorrow or 2024) we'll fight to better the lives of everyone—including & especially the lives of those burdened with hate and confusion over what it should mean to be an American. Our love and compassion—and the ability to have a Political Party that knows how to present a cogent, compelling & convincing message—is how we'll heal the politically despondent, those who have given up and are sadly staying home today, those who’ve been easily tricked into voting against their own best interests, and those who are succumbed with a mindless fear of “the other” who are going to hurt them or take what their white Christian leaders have promised them is theirs. And if we “lose,” as the media predicts—an outcome they will have willed into existence by convincing just enough Americans that the price of a gallon of gas is more important than the human rights of an entire gender and more important than the actual Democracy itself—then we'll live to fight another day. A lie has a short shelf life when exposed to the resounding Truth. There will always be more of us than them, so let’s just figure out how to truly activate & embrace both that majority and the 80 million who are nonvoters. One way to do that is to follow through on our promises: Tax the rich, support the working class & their families, all women are equals, and we create a new generation of civically-engaged critical thinkers who read and act and love. I woke up today in good spirits, thoughtful of the future, but in need of a good laugh & a small dose of humanity. The headlines are already popping up on my screen: “No Signs of ‘Red Wave’ as Race for Congress Remains Tight” (New York Times) “Congress hangs in balance as Democrats defy expectations” (Washington Post) “‘Red wave’ fails to materialise as Fetterman clinches crucial Senate seat for Democrats” (The Guardian) “Control of Congress Remains at Stake as Democrats Fend Off Anticipated ‘Red Wave’” (The Wall Street Journal) So many of you have written to me through the night. So many of you who worked hard over these last months to prevent the bloodbath. A fascist takeover by a full slate of election deniers & voting suppressors. And now we know there'll be no bloodbath. Not today. Because millions of us erected a force field around the haters & bigots to stop them in their tracks. And that's what has happened. Sometimes you have to lose a battle or two in order to win the war. I love how you all knew that if for some reason we couldn’t create a blue tsunami on Nov 8, our second best choice was to make sure there'd be no red wave. And that is where we are at as America wakes up on The Day After. Last night, the GOP was in a state of shock as they found themselves, at least for now, in control of neither the House nor the Senate! They were unable to throw a single Dem out of the Senate. In fact just the opposite happened—the Dems were able to flip control of their PA Senate seat from a Republican to a Dem. In stunned disbelief, the Dems instantly went from a 50-50 Senate to a 51-49 Senate in their favor. Georgia & Nevada are still too close to call, but the Dem in Georgia holds a small lead, and the Dem in Nevada has played see-saw all night with the Republican. To be clear, they’ll be counting these votes for days, if not weeks,so it’s anybody’s guess what'll happen. You need 218 House seats to hold a majority, to be able to pass (or defeat) a bill. Right now they're 20 seats short of that & that's why none of the networks/AP/New York Times have called the House for either Party. The looks on the faces of Fox News are glum. Trump as an unelected president of the United States; and 2. On November 8, 2022, their actions to stage this coup & commit sedition were rewarded when the voters in their mostly gerrymandered districts returned them to a new term in Congress that begins two weeks from this Tuesday. And now, on January 3, 2023, all 121 of them will each put their hand on a Bible and, lying through their teeth (perfectly fixed & whitened, thanks to their free socialist Congressional health care), will “swear to protect & defend the Constitution of the U.S. against all enemies, foreign & domestic.” Does this strike anyone as a bit odd? Doesn’t it seem like if you tried to overthrow the gov’t you should no longer be allowed to be a part of it? That if you provided aid & comfort to those who ransacked Nancy Pelosi’s office and spray-painted “C**T” on her wall, or if you, as a member of Congress, stood and voted for sedition through legislative action (either to secede from the Union or to prevent an elected President from taking office), you are Constitutionally prohibited from taking your seat on January 3, 2023? And when you watch a bunch of older white racist Southern men — i.e., the Republican supermajority of the Tennessee House of Representatives — attack two young black elected House members for “improper decorum” when they spoke out against gun violence just two days after the mass school shooting last week in Nashville, well racist acts are nothing new to the state where the KKK was born. So Thursday night the Tennessee House Republicans expelled the two young Black Democratic representatives for daring to give voice to those too young to vote — but old enough to be killed at school. It was a stunning moment in the fight against those who seek to destroy our Democracy. Women were initially angry & upset, but then calmed down & collected themselves, realizing the cost of a dozen eggs (chicken eggs) and the price of a gallon of gas was far more important than having their own absolute legal control over their reproductive organs—and that being ordered to carry a baby to term against their will was really no biggie.” The Truth: The men who own & run the media have NO clue just how outraged the vast majority of women remain over having it shoved in their face yet again that they’re second class citizens who’re never going to hold real power (74% of Congress is still held by men & 426 of the Fortune 500 companies are still run by men), that women will never be paid the same as men, and that 56% of those living in poverty and 64% of those working the lowest paid jobs are & will always be women as long as the patriarchy says so—or until the patriarchy is smashed. And these men who’ve been telling (lying to) you daily during this election that women don’t really worry their “pretty little heads” over this stuff—i.e. the literal man’s boot placed squarely on their necks as RBG used to say—are also telling us that women have put their “emotions” aside & now wake up every morning obsessed with the price of gas (a whopping 21 cents over a year ago!). Of course women would gladly give up their basic human rights for a gallon of gas! The men who think this way are either stupid, or they know all too well that they must depress the Dem vote by getting just enough of you to believe that women are now voting for the GOP. Trump and his 18 Co-Conspirators (including Rudy Giuliani, Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, lawyer John Eastman & others) on 41 counts of racketeering and other criminal acts for conspiring to form an “organized crime enterprise” which attempted to “illegally overturn the 2020 presidential election” through theft, fraud, forgery, impersonating law enforcement, impersonating electors to the Electoral College, and for conspiring with other top elected GOP officials in 6 other states, plus GOP leaders in DC, to overthrow the election and “seize” the Oval Office for a term Trump didn’t win (he lost by 7 million votes). The prosecutor is charging Trump and his crime group under the RICO statutes that are used to convict and imprison those involved in mob-like crimes. The 90-page indictment lists the commission of “161 overt criminal acts” — a breathtaking, comprehensive list of crimes in an enterprise led by Trump. The DA spent nearly 2 years on her extensive investigation. It reads like no stone was left unturned, with a massive amount of evidence obtained by the prosecutors in her office. It also states there are 30 other “unnamed, unindicted co-conspirators” who may be indicted at a later time. Michael Moore Instagram - It’s been over a week since the boss of the Trump Crime Family was convicted of 34 felonies. And yet, he still roams the streets of America, Fox News, and Wisconsin. Sentencing is scheduled for July 11th. Fifty-one years ago, Donald Trump and his father, Fred Trump were charged with breaking the law by violating the Fair Housing Act and the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (which stated that even though you were a bigot, you still had to rent the apartments you owned to anyone regardless of their race, creed, color or national origin). The Trumps sought to try out a new legal theory of theirs that this particular law did not apply to them. The case, in U.S. federal district court, was The United States v. Fred C. Trump, Donald Trump, and Trump Management, Inc. The crimes that the Trump mob was accused of committing involved the Trumps refusing to rent any of their nearly 4,000 apartments that they owned in New York City to people who were Black or Puerto Rican. It turned out that over a period of decades, only seven Black families were allowed to rent any Trump apartments. To avoid any further prosecution or penalties, the Trumps signed a consent decree to stop discriminating against people of color. A few years later, the government accused father and son Trump of violating the agreement they had signed. It was one of many cases over the years where, no matter how often the Trump Organization was accused of civil rights violations, fraud, not paying contractors or employees, and other acts of illegal or immoral ineptitude and debauchery — acts too numerous to list here — they were repeatedly hauled in front of a judge to face justice, only to slip through the cracks in the law, while showing no remorse, receiving no punishment, and having zero impact on them, thus ensuring they would never become law-abiding and decent citizens. Michael Moore Instagram - Mike’s Midterm Tsunami Truth #13: Women. That’s it. There are 6 million more women in the US than men. Talk about outnumbered! There are more women who vote than men — 63% of eligible women vote. Only 59% of eligible men vote. And when women vote, 56% of them vote for the Democrat over the 38% that vote Republican. Can these Republican men at least do the math? So while I’m presenting all of these 44 reasons (one each day) as to why we are going to win in November (and how we’re going to do that), let’s not forget that there is one, overwhelming, laser-focused, locked-and-loaded reason that the Republicans are already doomed, defeated and demolished. They must know it. That they have cooked their own geese. And that reason is women. More than any other reason, women, the majority gender, one month from today, will lead the crushing blow of defeat to the Republican politicians committed to the destruction of our Democracy. The right wing Supreme Court issued a religious edict on June 24th reminding women they are second-class citizens. They clearly didn’t understand that the vast majority of American women, regardless of political affiliation, DO NOT want the government in their bedrooms and they certainly are NEVER going to cede control over their reproductive organs to a bunch of Mitch McConnells. That is game over, and that is why in the last few months millions more women than men have registered to vote. I wonder if these Justices ever talk with or listen to women? Do they know any women? Because if they did, they never would have gotten rid of Roe. I have never witnessed such stupidity on such a massive scale. Nor have I ever seen a backlash so intense, so together and so widespread. These Republicans have committed mass political suicide. Wow. Just wow. Women. That’s it. The Mother of all Steamrollers. Unstoppable. Indefatigable. White supremacists are trying to blow up our electrical grid. Overseas, a group of current & ex-military personnel were caught planning a coup in Germany. And back here, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene promised the next Capitol insurrection will be armed & it will succeed. But most frightening, 128 U.S. Senators & House members who voted on Jan 6, 2021 to overturn the election, thus overthrowing the gov’t, will be re-sworn into Congress just 3 weeks from today. On this episode, I take a deep dive into our biggest terrorist threat — us. Specifically, the fact that 1 of our 2 major parties is led by hundreds of elected officials who still want to overthrow the gov’t by overturning the 2020 election AND suppressing the votes of Black Americans. I call these efforts an act of treason. Plus, the current (twice-impeached) leader of that party has now called for the “termination” of the U.S. Constitution—and demanded that he be installed as our unelected dictator. Madness! But it’s real. And on 1/3/23, 118 House members & 10 Senators—all of whom voted on the night of 1/6/21 to overturn the election—will be sworn into our 118th Congress. This sacred headquarters of our Democracy will house 128 traitors who tried to overthrow our gov’t. What are we to do about this? Michael Moore Instagram - If there is one shining example of how we were all able to stop the much-predicted “red wave” of the Trump-backed Republicans winning the midterm elections in landslide fashion, the blue tsunami, the blue wall created by the voters in the state of Michigan must be recognized for what it did to help save our Democracy. In Michigan last month we had a record voter turnout for a midterm election. The voters created a full Democratic sweep of Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State AND BOTH the Michigan Senate and the Michigan House of Representatives. This completed a Democratic trifecta for the first time in Michigan in 40 years. In addition to this, the voters in Michigan will be sending a majority Congressional delegation to DC (7-6), also for the first time in many years. This is in addition to Michigan’s two Democratic U.S. Senators who continue to serve in the United States Congress. And, on top of all of this, we in Michigan on November 8th codified the absolute right to abortion INTO THE STATE CONSTITUTION. We also overwhelmingly passed two other ballot proposals enhancing voting rights and tracking the money politicians raise in our elections. Thousands of Michiganders worked hard for these victories, and millions of voters showed up — but there was one other linchpin that allowed for those red dominoes to fall. Michael Moore Instagram - Guns Don't Kill People, Americans Kill People: 20 years ago this weekend, “Bowling for Columbine” received the Oscar for Best Doc Feature of the year. It was also the 5th night of the illegal invasion & bombing of Iraq by George W. Bush. I find it difficult to celebrate when the only thing we should consider remembering from 20 years ago this week is this crime against humanity, committed in our name, against the Iraqi people. So I’ll use this moment to once again demand that we, the people, stop & examine why we have such a thirst for violence, a desire to kill our “enemies,” and an insane fear of “the other”—which causes us to possess nearly 400 million guns in our homes. Those who didn’t see “Bowling for Columbine” think it’s a movie about guns. It isn’t. It’s about us. Americans. “The gun” isn’t the star of our movie. We sorta half-agree with the NRA’s propaganda line —Guns Don’t Kill People—Americans Kill People.” Actually Male Americans. Few women spray bullets inside a 1st grade classroom or from atop a Vegas hotel. Every country’s teenagers watch violent movies, play violent video games. There’s a huge mental illness problem throughout the world, and yet, we’re the only country on Earth who kills so many of their own in this way. Why is that? What is it specifically about us? We thought if we could answer “why us” then maybe we could help fix this madness. Our madness. We now average more than 1 mass shooting a day. Guns are now the #1 cause of death among American children. More than cancer. More than auto accidents. Yet no one here hangs their head in shame. We just hope our school, our child, isn’t next. The vast majority of Americans have always opposed any form of fascism, even though at times tens of millions of us have endorsed the genocide of our native peoples, the enslavement, raping and lynching of humans kidnapped from Africa, the prohibition of Chinese immigrants, the over 100 illegal invasions of other countries, the closed doors to victims of the Holocaust, the passage of laws legalizing white supremacy, the prohibiting of marrying or having sex with someone of your own gender and the government legalizing the second-class citizenship of all women, to name but a few. Yet, in spite of all this, the vast majority of Americans are repulsed by fascism. He helped liberate one of the concentration camps at Dachau. He marched with Dr. King and Harry Belafonte at Selma. He was one of the last to see Viola Liuzzo alive, a mother of five from Detroit, murdered by the Klan outside Selma. He was a mentor to many. He was there on the opening night of my Broadway show, 3rd row, left aisle. I asked him once for the secret of his longevity. He said, “Never dwell in the past. Live in the moment of today. The inalienable right of a free people to be kept safe from gun violence and the fear thereof must not be infringed and shall be protected by the Congress. This Amendment thus repeals and replaces the Second Amendment. SECTION 2. Congress shall create a mandatory system of firearm registration and licensing for the following limited purposes: (a) licensed hunters of game; (b) licensed ranges for the sport of target shooting; and (c) for the few who can prove a special need for personal protection. All who seek a firearm will undergo a strict vetting process with a thorough background check, including the written approval of family members, ex-spouses and partners. A mental health check will also be required. There will be a waiting period of one month to complete the full background check. SECTION 3. Those who successfully pass the background check must take a firearms safety class and pass a written test. SECTION 4. The minimum age for the restricted groups who can own a firearm is 25 years old. SECTION 5. Congress will stipulate and update the limited list of approved firearms for civilian use. The following firearms are heretofore banned: • All automatic and semi-automatic weapons and all devices which can enable a single-shot gun to fire automatically or semi-automatically; • Any weapon that can hold more than six bullets or rounds at a time or any magazine that holds more than six bullets. SECTION 6. Congress shall regulate all ammunition and its capacity, the storage of guns, gun locks, sights, body armor and the sale and distribution of such items. Congress may create future restrictions as this amendment specifically does not grant any American the “right” to own any weapon. SECTION 7. Police shall be subject to strict and comprehensive monitoring and shall be dismissed if found to exhibit any racist or violent behavior. SECTION 8. Persons already owning any of the above banned firearms will have one month from the ratification of this Amendment to turn in their firearms for destruction by local law enforcement. The headlines are already popping up on my screen: “No Signs of ‘Red Wave’ as Race for Congress Remains Tight” (New York Times) “Congress hangs in balance as Democrats defy expectations” (Washington Post) “‘Red wave’ fails to materialise as Fetterman clinches crucial Senate seat for Democrats” (The Guardian) “Control of Congress Remains at Stake as Democrats Fend Off Anticipated ‘Red Wave’” (The Wall Street Journal) So many of you have written to me through the night. So many of you who worked hard over these last months to prevent the bloodbath. A fascist takeover by a full slate of election deniers & voting suppressors. And now we know there'll be no bloodbath. Not today. Because millions of us erected a force field around the haters & bigots to stop them in their tracks. And that's what has happened. Sometimes you have to lose a battle or two in order to win the war. I love how you all knew that if for some reason we couldn’t create a blue tsunami on Nov 8, our second best choice was to make sure there'd be no red wave. And that is where we are at as America wakes up on The Day After. Last night, the GOP was in a state of shock as they found themselves, at least for now, in control of neither the House nor the Senate! They were unable to throw a single Dem out of the Senate. In fact just the opposite happened—the Dems were able to flip control of their PA Senate seat from a Republican to a Dem. In stunned disbelief, the Dems instantly went from a 50-50 Senate to a 51-49 Senate in their favor. Georgia & Nevada are still too close to call, but the Dem in Georgia holds a small lead, and the Dem in Nevada has played see-saw all night with the Republican. To be clear, they’ll be counting these votes for days, if not weeks,so it’s anybody’s guess what'll happen. You need 218 House seats to hold a majority, to be able to pass (or defeat) a bill. The headlines are already popping up on my screen: “No Signs of ‘Red Wave’ as Race for Congress Remains Tight” (New York Times) “Congress hangs in balance as Democrats defy expectations” (Washington Post) “‘Red wave’ fails to materialise as Fetterman clinches crucial Senate seat for Democrats” (The Guardian) “Control of Congress Remains at Stake as Democrats Fend Off Anticipated ‘Red Wave’” (The Wall Street Journal) So many of you have written to me through the night. So many of you who worked hard over these last months to prevent the bloodbath. A fascist takeover by a full slate of election deniers & voting suppressors. And now we know there’ll be no bloodbath. Not today. Because millions of us erected a force field around the haters & bigots to stop them in their tracks. And that’s what has happened. Sometimes you have to lose a battle or two in order to win the war. I love how you all knew that if for some reason we couldn’t create a blue tsunami on Nov 8, our second best choice was to make sure there’d be no red wave. And that is where we are at as America wakes up on The Day After. Last night, the GOP was in a state of shock as they found themselves, at least for now, in control of neither the House nor the Senate! They were unable to throw a single Dem out of the Senate. In fact just the opposite happened—the Dems were able to flip control of their PA Senate seat from a Republican to a Dem. In stunned disbelief, the Dems instantly went from a 50-50 Senate to a 51-49 Senate in their favor. Georgia & Nevada are still too close to call, but the Dem in Georgia holds a small lead, and the Dem in Nevada has played see-saw all night with the Republican. To be clear, they’ll be counting these votes for days, if not weeks,so it’s anybody’s guess what’ll happen. You need 218 House seats to hold a majority, to be able to pass (or defeat) a bill. Right now they’re 20 seats short of that & that’s why none of the networks/AP/New York Times have called the House for either Party. The looks on the faces of Fox News are glum. Fifty-one years ago, Donald Trump and his father, Fred Trump were charged with breaking the law by violating the Fair Housing Act and the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (which stated that even though you were a bigot, you still had to rent the apartments you owned to anyone regardless of their race, creed, color or national origin). The Trumps sought to try out a new legal theory of theirs that this particular law did not apply to them. The case, in U.S. federal district court, was The United States v. Fred C. Trump, Donald Trump, and Trump Management, Inc. The crimes that the Trump mob was accused of committing involved the Trumps refusing to rent any of their nearly 4,000 apartments that they owned in New York City to people who were Black or Puerto Rican. It turned out that over a period of decades, only seven Black families were allowed to rent any Trump apartments. To avoid any further prosecution or penalties, the Trumps signed a consent decree to stop discriminating against people of color. A few years later, the government accused father and son Trump of violating the agreement they had signed. It was one of many cases over the years where, no matter how often the Trump Organization was accused of civil rights violations, fraud, not paying contractors or employees, and other acts of illegal or immoral ineptitude and debauchery — acts too numerous to list here — they were repeatedly hauled in front of a judge to face justice, only to slip through the cracks in the law, while showing no remorse, receiving no punishment, and having zero impact on them, thus ensuring they would never become law-abiding and decent citizens. Each day on my Substack I’ll give you one quick, solid, shareable reason how and why the anti-Democratic forces are going to go down in a bonfire of defeat. The pundits and the Trumpsters are on a daily rampage to convince you we are going to lose the House, that we’ll still be stuck with a gridlocked Senate. And that Biden is a loser. There are more women who vote than men — 63% of eligible women vote. Only 59% of eligible men vote. And when women vote, 56% of them vote for the Democrat over the 38% that vote Republican. Can these Republican men at least do the math? So while I’m presenting all of these 44 reasons (one each day) as to why we are going to win in November (and how we’re going to do that), let’s not forget that there is one, overwhelming, laser-focused, locked-and-loaded reason that the Republicans are already doomed, defeated and demolished. They must know it. That they have cooked their own geese. And that reason is women. More than any other reason, women, the majority gender, one month from today, will lead the crushing blow of defeat to the Republican politicians committed to the destruction of our Democracy. The right wing Supreme Court issued a religious edict on June 24th reminding women they are second-class citizens. They clearly didn’t understand that the vast majority of American women, regardless of political affiliation, DO NOT want the government in their bedrooms and they certainly are NEVER going to cede control over their reproductive organs to a bunch of Mitch McConnells. That is game over, and that is why in the last few months millions more women than men have registered to vote. I wonder if these Justices ever talk with or listen to women? Do they know any women? Because if they did, they never would have gotten rid of Roe. I have never witnessed such stupidity on such a massive scale. Nor have I ever seen a backlash so intense, so together and so widespread. These Republicans have committed mass political suicide. Wow. Just wow. Women. That’s it. The Mother of all Steamrollers. Unstoppable. Indefatigable. I feel a thank you note is in order… Dear Governors DeSantis and Abbott, First off, thank you for liberating thousands of newly arrived human beings from the hellhole the rest of America knows as “Texas.” I’m sure most of them, when they fled the terror and poverty of their own countries to come to the land of the free in Texas, had no idea they were going to a new place of terror, a place led by men devoid of conscience, a state run by bigots and idiots too stupid to know how to a) build a modern energy grid, and b) figure out how to hook that grid up to the rest of the country’s grid so they wouldn’t freeze to death in the winter. These new immigrants also probably hadn’t heard that, long before the Supreme Court’s ruling in June, Texas politicians had already legalized the removal of human rights from women and in doing so, made them second-class citizens. And I’m certain they had no clue just how unsafe their children would be in a state that hands out assault weapons like candy and then, as their own 10-year-olds are being slaughtered with said guns, 400 “law enforcement” officers show up and are too chicken-shit to risk their own lives to save them. So I’ll use this moment to once again demand that we, the people, stop & examine why we have such a thirst for violence, a desire to kill our “enemies,” and an insane fear of “the other”—which causes us to possess nearly 400 million guns in our homes. Those who didn’t see “Bowling for Columbine” think it’s a movie about guns. It isn’t. It’s about us. Americans. “The gun” isn’t the star of our movie. We sorta half-agree with the NRA’s propaganda line —Guns Don’t Kill People—Americans Kill People.” Actually Male Americans. Few women spray bullets inside a 1st grade classroom or from atop a Vegas hotel. Every country’s teenagers watch violent movies, play violent video games. There’s a huge mental illness problem throughout the world, and yet, we’re the only country on Earth who kills so many of their own in this way. Why is that? What is it specifically about us? We thought if we could answer “why us” then maybe we could help fix this madness. Our madness. We now average more than 1 mass shooting a day. Guns are now the #1 cause of death among American children. More than cancer. More than auto accidents. Yet no one here hangs their head in shame. We just hope our school, our child, isn’t next. And, if they are, well, millions of Americans will be sure to send us their thoughts and prayers. The inalienable right of a free people to be kept safe from gun violence and the fear thereof must not be infringed and shall be protected by the Congress. This Amendment thus repeals and replaces the Second Amendment. SECTION 2. Congress shall create a mandatory system of firearm registration and licensing for the following limited purposes: (a) licensed hunters of game; (b) licensed ranges for the sport of target shooting; and (c) for the few who can prove a special need for personal protection. All who seek a firearm will undergo a strict vetting process with a thorough background check, including the written approval of family members, ex-spouses and partners. A mental health check will also be required. There will be a waiting period of one month to complete the full background check. SECTION 3. Those who successfully pass the background check must take a firearms safety class and pass a written test. SECTION 4. The minimum age for the restricted groups who can own a firearm is 25 years old. SECTION 5. Congress will stipulate and update the limited list of approved firearms for civilian use. The following firearms are heretofore banned: • All automatic and semi-automatic weapons and all devices which can enable a single-shot gun to fire automatically or semi-automatically; • Any weapon that can hold more than six bullets or rounds at a time or any magazine that holds more than six bullets. SECTION 6. Congress shall regulate all ammunition and its capacity, the storage of guns, gun locks, sights, body armor and the sale and distribution of such items. Congress may create future restrictions as this amendment specifically does not grant any American the “right” to own any weapon. SECTION 7. Police shall be subject to strict and comprehensive monitoring and shall be dismissed if found to exhibit any racist or violent behavior. SECTION 8. Persons already owning any of the above banned firearms will have one month from the ratification of this Amendment to turn in their firearms for destruction by local law enforcement.
