I’ve spent so many months or years on tour traveling with these guys that the stories are endless so glad to still be able to catch up. Mike Escamilla Instagram - 31 years ago this summer in 1993 in OKC, I had just turned 16 and this contest changed my life… I drove halfway across country with a bunch of guys called the POW’s, which stood for pros of Westminster. 7 or 8 guys in a minivan with all our gear and bikes inside, it was a tight fit. We slept under and on the ramps for a couple weeks before the contest with a few nights of hotels… ultimately being a few weeks that would shape the next 30 years. Mike Escamilla Instagram - Wow, what an epic ride. And I didn’t even work on this movie. All I can say is everyone involved killed it. The vibe, the story, the ACTION,and pretty much everything else about this movie hit the nail on the head on what it feels like to be a Stuntman. It’s a family movie, that somehow a guys movie, that hilarious, and somehow still a romance…. Stuntman have taken the bulk of the danger and the action in every movie ever made from someone falling into the sand to someone falling out of a helicopter. It’s the stunt department putting in the work. I hope this movie opens the eyes of the audience and the Academy and every other organization that recognizes the work in this industry. The fact that we don’t get recognized for anything on a movie is crazy, but I guess,if you watch this movie, you’ll realize why they do it…… Because it’s obvious… We are the show. I wanna congratulate everyone involved in this movie you guys knocked it out of the park. It’s instantly going to be a classic and a movie you can watch over and over again congrats to all my friends who worked on it and stoked you all came home safe.!! It’s only 20 minutes and it really is inspiring and full of knowledge of people who have been pushing the limits of their body for the past 30 years and still wake up every morning with the drive to do so. Mike Escamilla Instagram - Congrats to all the competitors and winners this weekend at @xgames stoked to see them all have a place to compete in the summer again. Here’s a shot of me from I think 2007 or 08 mega ramp X games at the staple center. in 2005 Bmx was not allowed in mega ramp at the time. @xgames gave me an opportunity to break the backflip world record behind closed doors with no crowd. I broke the current world record at the time and set the 360 world record.. the following year Bmx was invited to be part of the mega ramp spectacle. And the rest was history.. to see the level of riding progress from that time is nuts.. dudes like @chadkagy @anthonynapo @krobbmx and @texasmwade @bmxzack really pushed the limits. Then there was @rwilly who came out of nowhere and redefined the capabilities of what a bike rider was capable of. Mike Escamilla Instagram - On Saturday night @jasonenns and @daveosato were honored with being inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame. Although I was not able to attend, I was asked to send a video congratulating them. Of course this was last minute and I was in Texas working nights so I had just a couple hours a day to work on it and get it done, I really want to thank everyone who got me a video so fast. so many people responded who I asked to contribute and I was able to make this little video happen. Mike Escamilla Instagram - Things that never got done… while filming for the first @united_bmx caveman edit maybe back in 2017 I came across this set up …the rail was rickety so I had to prop it up with a 2x4 you can see at the top. I also kicked a runway into the dirt to make a path… I think I even glued an angle iron over part of the rail because it had rotted through the metal .. the problem was there were always cars parked in the way. This day we had a clean shot, being about 45 minutes away from my house meant a lot of trips up there only to be a no go cause of cars. I think this was second or third try…. Shortly after maybe even the next try a slipped off getting on and hit my shin on a decaying piece of metal somewhere and punctured it … (see second photo) a quick trip to the hospital to get stitched after that. Which lead to months of coming back only to be met with cars blocking the path… after probably 10 trips to look I finally gave up and put the edit out without it … this happens not to often where I don’t even get a real attempt at something and it haunts my soul for years … I drove back over there last year and saw the rail had finally rotted away and was removed (see third photo) … does this make me feel better that it’s not there so I couldn’t do it anyways or does it make it worse that now cause I’ll never do it ? The vibe, the story, the ACTION,and pretty much everything else about this movie hit the nail on the head on what it feels like to be a Stuntman. It’s a family movie, that somehow a guys movie, that hilarious, and somehow still a romance…. Stuntman have taken the bulk of the danger and the action in every movie ever made from someone falling into the sand to someone falling out of a helicopter. Here’s a shot of me from I think 2007 or 08 mega ramp X games at the staple center. in 2005 Bmx was not allowed in mega ramp at the time. @xgames gave me an opportunity to break the backflip world record behind closed doors with no crowd. I broke the current world record at the time and set the 360 world record.. the following year Bmx was invited to be part of the mega ramp spectacle. And the rest was history.. to see the level of riding progress from that time is nuts.. dudes like @chadkagy @anthonynapo @krobbmx and @texasmwade @bmxzack really pushed the limits. Then there was @rwilly who came out of nowhere and redefined the capabilities of what a bike rider was capable of. Caption : On Saturday night @jasonenns and @daveosato were honored with being inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame. Although I was not able to attend, I was asked to send a video congratulating them. Of course this was last minute and I was in Texas working nights so I had just a couple hours a day to work on it and get it done, I really want to thank everyone who got me a video so fast. so many people responded who I asked to contribute and I was able to make this little video happen. I also kicked a runway into the dirt to make a path… I think I even glued an angle iron over part of the rail because it had rotted through the metal .. the problem was there were always cars parked in the way. This day we had a clean shot, being about 45 minutes away from my house meant a lot of trips up there only to be a no go cause of cars. I think this was second or third try…. Shortly after maybe even the next try a slipped off getting on and hit my shin on a decaying piece of metal somewhere and punctured it … (see second photo) a quick trip to the hospital to get stitched after that. Which lead to months of coming back only to be met with cars blocking the path… after probably 10 trips to look I finally gave up and put the edit out without it … this happens not to often where I don’t even get a real attempt at something and it haunts my soul for years … I drove back over there last year and saw the rail had finally rotted away and was removed (see third photo) … does this make me feel better that it’s not there so I couldn’t do it anyways or does it make it worse that now cause I’ll never do it ?
