Caption : It’s happening, @joesatriani and I are touring together. For me this is like heaven in a cup. My favorite person to enter that intimate state of musical exchange with has always been Joe. It’s been this way since I was 12 years old and I couldn’t be more thrilled at this time in our lives to be doing this tour together now. I believe this celebration of the rock guitar will be a feast for the ears of all those who attend our shows. Tickets are on sale now thru the link in my bio.Likes : 64453

Caption : This year’s Vai Academy Camp 7.0 was just off the hook fantastic. Totally sold out in advance and our biggest group so far. It’s so nice to be in an environment filled with guitar lovers that are eager to embrace the guitar culture, meet with so many other like minded people, thrive in an immersive experience and raise their own bar. Not to mention party time by the fire pit! The nightly jam with the campers was the best. Perhaps 4 hours a night for 4 straight nights of meeting each one with a hot guitar strapped on them and presenting the band with a simple little riff that we would then explore. To musically respond with them in that intimate sacred musical sharing mind is what it’s all about. I love them all so much. I also noticed that we have many return campers, and so many people who have created bonds through these events with others. It’s more like a camping family these days. And our list of guests this year revealed some of the most striking and technique elevated artists in our current times. Our special guests included Mohini Dey, Daniele Gottardo, Tim Henson, Scott LePage, Sarah Longfield, Marcin, Matteo Mancuso, Yvette Young and Jordan Rudess, and each of these inspired artists dazzled us with their unique and fascinating touch on the guitar. In Mohini’s case it was the bass. She is a phenom that is pushing forward what’s possible, as is our other guests. Being able to jam with the guests was another highlight. They inspired me beyond. My most sincere thanks to all the campers, clinicians and special guests that helped to make this year’s Vai Academy 7.0 such a memorable life experience. Now I’m looking forward to the next one! See you there.Likes : 36649

Caption : TM Stevens was a force of nature on bass. He was a colorful, intense, and completely accomplished player. His sound was amazingly fat and loud! I was fortunate enough to have had him play on my “Sex and Religion” recordings and the “Down Deep Into The Pain” video with Terry Bozzio and Devin Townsend. We made some powerful music and had great laughs. He was completely committed to his craft and was a professional from head to foot and was loved by the myriad celebrity artists he’s played with. He had been suffering with dementia for quite some years now and made his transition this week. My condolences to his family, friends and fans. Through the years, I loved thinking about TM and the great time we spent together as bandmates and friends. When I visualize him now in my minds eye, I see that gigantic warm smile, that rich deep laughter voice and I feel the walls shaking in remembrance of his overall power when he played. Caption : Here with Father @robertfrippofficial at @mccabesguitarshop 3.3.24 where he gave an enlightening talk with David Singleton to a packed house of enthusiastic ears, mine being a pair of them. I was fortunate he was in town and accepted to meet with me. I respect and admire this man tremendously. Since 1969, his brilliant musical mind reinvented a music genre twice. His fiercely disciplined and unique guitar technique is untouchable to all but him and he is a marvel. We had a lovely chat about BEAT and I was relieved and thrilled to know he gave it his blessing, and even suggested the name. When I asked him what he had thought when he heard I was in the band, he replied “you are the only one that can play my guitar parts.” I found myself in a rare state of gob-smacked speechlessness because I know that nobody can play Robert’s guitar parts like him.Likes : 27546

Caption : When I set out to record Passion and Warfare, I had my own studio and myself. At that time I received a request from a young French engineering student named Pascal Fillet, that needed to fill his school requirements by spending real hours in a recording studio. Pascal wrote and asked if I would consider having him in Los Angeles to help with these sessions. It was as if that request came at the perfect time and I just got a great vibe about it, so I accepted his request. What I didn’t know was how vital his contribution would be and what a skilled, precise, professional and overall great energy he would be. We worked feverishly around the clock to finish PAW in time. Many days we worked shifts around the clock. When we finished the record, I grabbed the master tapes and went directly to Bernie Grundman to have it mastered. Right from Bernie’s mastering lab, I went directly to the airport to leave for the 13 month Whitesnake tour. There was literally not an hour to spare. If not for the dedication and skill of Pascal, PAW would not have been released until a year later… Phewwww! Recently, Pascal did an interview where he divulges his experience working on PAW in a way no one else could. He was the one that was there for the vast majority of the production, and he’s the one that held it all together. In this interview you will glean an insight into aspects of the recording of Passion and Warfare that are not available from any other authentic source. Thanks again Pascal. Check it out thru the link in my bio.Likes : 26899

Caption : Our 2nd G3 show on this run was in Highland, CA and I felt electrified. Hey, my amps worked! It was like being back in the G3 universe and I was beaming with the feeling of enthusiasm I felt some 27 years ago when we kicked off the first G3 tour with Eric, Joe and myself. The audiences are so supportive. Walking off the stage at the end of the jam, Joe and I turned to each other and in a deep state of appreciation he said “We have to be the 2 luckiest guys in the world.” I agreed. 📸: @steve_roseLikes : 23796

Caption : We kicked off the G3 tour in Tucson on Tuesday, Jan 23rd. It was so nice to be on the stage with Eric and Joe again after performing the first G3 show with the same line up over 27 years ago. It was a bit of a rough start for me. We launched into our first song, “Avalancha”, and within a few minutes my rig went down with a ghost in the machine that could not be traced. We went to my jam rig and jumped back into the song, only to have that amp blow up within a minute. Not a pretty sight but these things can happen. We swapped out another head and finished our set. Unfortunately I was not able to use the Hydra that night because the way the audio outputs on the Hydra work requires my full gig rig and that was down. Oddly enough, I’ve been in worse situations in the past. Note to guitar players, it’s a good idea to have a spare rig or back up pieces to your rig when doing a show with a quick replacement plan. I usually have a full spare rig and several extra heads. And if they all go down, I would plug into someone else’s rig. Hmmm, would that be Eric’s or Joe’s rig? If you are doing a gig and your rig goes down, of greatest importance is to remain calm and focused even though the audience loves to see a good freak out now and then. In worst case scenario, pull your pants down to your ankles, arms up over your head in a display of defeated humiliation. I was almost at that point. Hmm, would the audience laugh or cheer? Maybe I’ll save that for the encore. 📸: @universalhellfireentLikes : 22817

In Reno we were graced by the appearance of the inimitable David Coverdale, leader of @whitesnake, vocalist extraordinaire, dear brother, and overall massively charming and gifted gentleman that intensely rocks. It was so great to see him. Also, our show in Oakland was strong and the audience was just off the hook. We were joined by great players @vicjohnson77 and @dougdopplermusic for the jam. It was nice to feel those other players on stage and watch them tear it up so beautifully. Doug is an ol’ friend that I’ve known since the early days of my arrival in Los Angeles in the 80’s. Besides being a key component to the oversight and success of the Vai Academy camps, he’s a powerful player. Check out his “Nu Instrumental” record.Likes : 14461

Caption : We wrapped up our glorious 27 year G3 anniversary tour this weekend in LA. The whole tour was an exceptional life experience. Being on the road with this entourage was like touring in a warm float tank. It was a pleasure beyond measure. Eric and Joe never cease to amaze and inspire me with their brilliance and innovation. And to feel them on stage every night trading riffs in our jams was uplifting and exhilarating! On top of all that, they are solid good people and cherished friends. Big time thanks to our crew and management that worked so hard to make it the exceptional experience that it was, and to all the folks that came to enjoy the shows. Your support is humbling🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Group Photo: @jenrosenstein All Other Photos: @superdrumtechLikes : 14250
