Susie Castillo Instagram - This morning, we said goodbye to our sweet boy, Oscar. He was almost 16 years old and he lived a great life. Traveled more than most people ever get to. The last couple years had their rough moments — his health was failing (congestive heart failure) — but he was a trooper. He always took his medications, even when we could tell he didn’t want to. The vet told us he may live 6-12 more months if everything went well, and this mofo went and lived 2.5 more years. Like I said, trooper. I always struggled a bit with Oscar because I wanted to smother him with love, but he was nooot into it. He didn’t like too much affection. So it often felt like we had a disconnect. Like our love languages were different. But in the end, I realize that I loved him the way I was meant to love him, and him me. He was a blessing. Despite occasionally being a HUGE pain in the butt (IYKYK). Short version, he liked to yell at us if we didn’t give him what he wanted, and that yelling sound was unlike any sound any dog has ever made. Susie Castillo Instagram - Insecurities are interesting aren’t they? They can have such a profound effect on our happiness yet we’re the only ones that give them power. Learning how to say “f*ck it” is refreshing and takes away their powers in a sec and it’s taken me a LOOOONG time to get to the sec. Those closest to me know that my long toes were a HUGE insecurity for me. When I was a kid, I didn’t wear flip flops…like ever! Well, times have changed. This is my “f*ck it” photo cuz mama don’t care anymore and I haven’t for quite some time now. Susie Castillo Instagram - Back where it all started 💜 I had the most beautiful weekend with my @missmausa @missmateenusa pageant sisters and my dear @clementeorganization family (minus the 4am fire alarm at the hotel on Sunday 😂)! Happy 25th anniversary to our fierce leader and one of the best state directors in the biz—OG whose love is unwavering @clemente.laurie. You are a blessing in our lives and we love you, Laurie 💖 It was an honor to be part of the judges panel that selected @averyyturnerr as our new #MissMaTeenUSA. These young women stepped outside of their comfort zone to participate in this pageant and I was once again in awe of them. So many intelligent and fierce girls🔥💪🏼 Miss MA Teen USA was the first pageant I ever competed in. It was 1997, I was 17, and I didn’t win #MissTeenUSA but it set me on the path to win #MissUSA 5 years later, which changed my life forever! It always makes me emotional attending the pageant because I know what just competing can do for these young women in terms of personal growth. If you win a national pageant, even more so. It’s a huge deal and I want to wish @averyyturnerr @melissasapini all the luck in the world as they prepare for the opportunity of a lifetime and their chance to become @MissTeenUSA & @MissUSA!
