Caption : Happy Mother’s Day to moms everywhere. 💞 Additionally, I would like to congratulate the Pomona – Pitzer senior softball players on today’s graduation .🎓️ Pomona is posthumously honoring Dixie with a diploma during today’s ceremony and I will be the one walking across the stage to accept it. As parents and caretakers, we find ourselves attending numerous ceremonies throughout our children’s lives. Today, I cannot help but reminisce about the multitude of graduation ceremonies we have witnessed along the way for Dixie. I am wishing she was on stage today instead of me — and I remain thankful she is being remembered by the school which meant so much to her. Likes : 950

Caption : The seniors on the Pomona Pitzer Sagehens softball team sweetly included Dixie in their senior day festivities. There is so much kindness and tragedy in the world. It’s hard to hold both at once. Looking back on Dixie’s final graduation, we just did the best we could with since it was during 2020 and Covid. The most important element for Dixie was having Ross by her side. He was always welcome in our corona bubble. Congrats to the strong and compassionate seniors who have kept Dixie alive in the Pomona-Pitzer dugout and on the field: Erika Rivera (pitcher, @erikakika__) 🧡 Shelby Hawkes (catcher, @shelbymhawkes) 💙 Lauren Ziment (outfielder, @_lauren_z_) 🧡 Morgan Groves (outfielder, @mmorgannn10) 💙Likes : 677

Caption : I’m back @PomonaCollege today watching Dixie’s college softball team play and retire her jersey number, 54. 🌻 I’m so grateful to the team, the coaches and the school for thinking of Dixie in all the different ways that they have – especially the sunflowers. This would be her senior season and I know she’d be playing her heart out. I suspect I’ll be crying my eyes out much of today. I received a moving email recently from a @Cal_Nuggets teammate of Dixie’s named Sophia. She is now on Willamette’s softball team and she was on her way play the Pomona/Pitzer Sagehens. “Dixie and I talked about everything from our stresses over calculus to our relationships (the love she had for Ross (which was incredible, I could tell even back then), and ultimately about our dreams to play softball in college. We became Nuggets throwing partners and went through every pre-game warm up together, chatting about life or giving each other softball-related support when we needed it. One of my favorite things about Dixie was that even on a softball field as we warmed up for a game, we could have intense conversations about politics — she was so passionate and outspoken, and at the time I was much more unsure of myself and my opinions. I have always looked up to her for those qualities she so boldly exhibited. Our team is filling our locker room with sunflowers this week, wearing either sunflowers or yellow ribbons in our hair, and I will be bringing a picture of her to keep in my locker. I am also meeting with Pomona Pitzer Coach JoAnne before we play to share memories of Dixie and to see her jersey in person.” #gratefulforthekindnessintheworld #actofremembrance Likes : 651

Caption : Meet Hettie Judah. I could call her a curator. I could call her an author. But I think of her as a polymath and a changemaker. It was Hettie who included my MOTHERLOAD work in the ACTS OF CREATION exhibition which will be touring for over a year in the UK. She wrote the ACTS OF CREATION book too, which will be published by @thamesandhudson on 4 July (UK / Europe) and @thamesandhudsonusa on 3 September (USA /Canada). In the new book, motherhood is addressed in the broadest sense – as an idea, a myth, an imposition, a source of longing or dread. The book covers broader territory than the exhibition, with chapters looking at the mother as an art historical subject and the mother as an emblem of devotion (or horror). She also is a mother of two and following publication of her 2020 study on the impact of motherhood on artists’ careers, she worked with a group of artists to draw up the manifesto How Not To Exclude Artist Parents, now available in 16 languages. In 2022, together with Jo Harrison, Hettie co-founded @ArtWorkingParents Alliance – a supportive network and campaigning group for curators, academics, gallerists, technicians, educators and others working in the arts. Find out more and join the network here: [email protected] A supporter of Arts Emergency she has mentored artists and students through a variety of different schemes. As a broadcaster she can be heard (and sometimes seen) on programs including BBC Radio 4’s Front Row and Art That Made Us. Recent books include How Not To Exclude Artist Mothers (and other parents) (Lund Humphries, 2022) and Lapidarium: The Secret Lives of Stones (John Murray, London, 2022/ Penguin, NY, 2023). STONES! Stones have secret lives and I only believe it because of Hettie’s book. Can’t wait to find a way to use Lapidarium in a conversation. 🤯 Slide One: Lovely Portrait by @alexschneideman Slide Two: Designed by the amazing @carolmontpartstudio and featuring VALIE EXPORT’s iconic ‘The Birth Madonna ‘(1976) on the cover. This piece is also in the exhibition. 🙌 Seeing it IRL was amazing. Seeing it across the room from my own MOTHERLOAD work was thrilling.Likes : 170

Caption : “The fire you like so much in me Is the mark of someone adamantly free” – Liz Phairest of Them All (@lizphairofficial) (@Liz_Phair) This was a fun night! If you’re in the Bay Area, get tickets as soon as you can to A STRANGE LOOP at A.C.T. 🎭 I spent opening night with playwright and pal Michael R. Jackson, writer Hilton Als & college roommate & math genius Charity Baranowski. Two of us have won Pulitzer’s and despite our “white girl energy” it ain’t us. Coda: Michael somehow managed to get me to venture out into a redwood forest. (It was scary but I survived). Likes : 157
