Heartbroken and ill learning of Ugandan Olympic marathon runner Rebecca Cheptegei’s murder at the hands of her ex-boyfriend. For all the work that’s been done to fight it, gender-based violence and femicide continue as a GLOBAL pandemic. As a South African, this hits home for me. While globally a staggering 1 in 3 women experience sexual or physical violence in their lifetime, the World Bank cited in 2023 that in Eastern and Southern Africa that number is 42% of women.
