But when the construction worker arrived today, we discovered that the construction of the apartment next-door (currently being torn down and rebuilt) prevents them from installing wifi at the moment……. Japanese Potato Salad with Kewpie Mayo 🥔🥒🥕🥔🥒🥕 Food Art Monthly Challenge (Scroll to bottom for challenge rules) Any kewpie mayo lovers out there? Hello everyone! It’s been a while- My apartment is getting demolished, so I had to unexpectedly (and quite suddenly!) move house. Moving both a living space and a studio after six years has taken so much work (and isn’t done yet!) To make matters worse, I won’t have Wifi until September 17th… and my new apartment has spotty cell service. Ugh. So internet access has been and will continue to be irregular. However, this month’s FAM theme being “salad,” I knew I wanted to showcase this painted I did for a client last year (and hadn’t posted yet.) While I ate a lot of potato salad in the US, Japanese potato salad is definitely different! No mustard is used, and it’s standard to use kewpie mayonaise (tangier, sweeter, and more umami-rich than US majo) with the addition of cucumbers and carrots. Yum!! It’s been a while- My apartment is getting demolished, so I had to unexpectedly (and quite suddenly!) move house. Moving both a living space and a studio after six years has taken so much work (and isn’t done yet!) To make matters worse, I won’t have Wifi until September 17th… and my new apartment has spotty cell service. Ugh. So internet access has been and will continue to be irregular. However, this month’s FAM theme being “salad,” I knew I wanted to showcase this painted I did for a client last year (and hadn’t posted yet.) While I ate a lot of potato salad in the US, Japanese potato salad is definitely different! No mustard is used, and it’s standard to use kewpie mayonaise (tangier, sweeter, and more umami-rich than US majo) with the addition of cucumbers and carrots. Yum!! Japanese Cherry Tart さくらんぼタルト 🍒🥧6/29 Watercolor Workshop Announcement! (Link in Profile) 🍒🥧6/29 さくらんぼタルトを描く水彩講座を開催予定 (プロフィールにURLあります！） https://bit.ly/kf-tart 週末の水彩講座のネタが確定！ファウンドリーのさくらんぼタルトを描きます！（もちろん、持ち帰り用のタルトも用意しています！） The theme for this weekend’s workshop has been finalized! We will be painting the Japanese cherry tart from Foundry! In Japan, you primarily see two types of cherrys- American Cherries which are sweet and dark and Japanese cherries or “sakuranbo” which are slightly brighter and have interesting gradations of color from yellow to light red/pink. We are nearing the end of cherry season, but since my favorite tart shop “Foundry” has a Japanese cherry tart through June, I decided to use it as the subject for my watercolor workshop this weekend 6/29 from 1pm! I will be holding it in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, and while the primary language will be in Japanese, I will translating into English as I go, too! We still have a few spots open. FOOD ART MONTHLY CHALLENGE: Fusion Food 🇪🇪🇻🇪🇬🇧🇲🇴🇻🇳🇮🇳🇮🇩🇯🇵 For this month’s challenge, I decided to feature a dish that I painted for a private client: Japanese Curry. Curry has had an interesting history in Japan. Originating in India, it was brought to England where it eventually made its way over to Japan. Japanese curry is sweeter and milder than most curries you find in India, and it is often topped with other “fusion foods” like fried cutlet (A Japanese take on the French fried steak.) At the end of the slides, I attached the photo I received of the curry from the client. As you can see, I tried to remain true to the original content while altering the angle and layout to be more aesthetically pleasing! ◆Challenge Rules◆ 1. FOOD ART MONTHLY CHALLENGE: Fusion Food 🇪🇪🇻🇪🇬🇧🇲🇴🇻🇳🇮🇳🇮🇩🇯🇵 For this month’s challenge, I decided to feature a dish that I painted for a private client: Japanese Curry. Curry has had an interesting history in Japan. Originating in India, it was brought to England where it eventually made its way over to Japan. Japanese curry is sweeter and milder than most curries you find in India, and it is often topped with other “fusion foods” like fried cutlet (A Japanese take on the French fried steak.)
