A little late because I didn’t want to say farewell so soon🥺🥺. However, goodbyes are inevitable hence I gotta do what I gotta do. 🥺 Sultanat has given me a lot of firsts of my life. My first lead role in a drama, first of Noor Apa’s script, first time shooting in Islamabad (the city where I stayed for four years during university), to name a few. 💖 Like any journey, it had its highs and lows. And like any journey, everything seems wonderful, and like destiny in the hindsight, it was all worth it in the end. I am overwhelmed by the love and recognition Sultanat and my character have received. 🥰 I am super grateful for everyone in the cast and crew for making it happen. 💛 And of course, special thanks to MD productions for giving me such a wonderful project as my first lead. Favourite composition. Favourite raaga. Latt uljhi – Raaga Bihag Why do I like it so much? It’s the epitome of feminine flirting. Subtle, full of mischief and so so romantic. ✨🥰
I’m singing taans in the Raag Bageshri here. Taan basically means singing the surs in a fast tempo. I’m singing two notes on one beat here. I’ll be honest, when I started singing, I wasn’t a big fan of taans. I like things to simmer so, fast paced taans sort of contradicted my way of life. However, gradually with time, I have realised it’s challenging to sing taans because you have to match the tempo while staying true to the surs. Also, one can be quite playful while improvising them. And that is how I have fallen in love with singing taans now. 🥰 Apologies for the background noise btw. 😂

My first exposure to eastern classical music was when I was I think 10 years old. As always, it was my passionate mother who drove me around to satiate my desire to learn new stuff. However, real learning started when I became a student of Ashvini Modak Jee. It’s been 3.5 years of learning with her and I can’t tell you all how wonderful it has been. I am singing Raag Bageshri here. I love the sweetness of this raag. It’s one of my absolute favourite. Also, I am improvising here, which basically means creating music on spot while staying in the boundaries of the raag. It is so, so creatively fulfilling and gratifying. Attempts of capturing myself in natural light. Three failed attempts till the point I decided to just be silly. Failing consciously gives great results. And those results are ofttimes not what one initially set out looking for. One ends up getting not what they wanted but what they truly “needed”. In my case, I got some lightness, some fun and a chance to laugh at myself.

It’s a joy that has been passed on to me by my sister. I used to get fresh flowers for her…on her demand. She demands out of pure love and she turns it all into warmth.
