It’s been 15 years since Before the Rains was released in India and longer since it premiered at the @tiff_net. It was a memorable experience to shoot with @sivan_santosh and the cast – @rahulbose7, #linusroache and others. Through such films I have seen so many hidden gems of India. This was shot in Munnar in Kerala and stunningly by Santosh who has a very unique lens through which he sees his images, his characters and his story unfold. If you haven’t see the film and want to, then check it out on @primevideoin

Happy Independence day. Though tough to celebrate when so many continue to be abused, discriminated, subjugated, raped and killed. The horrific incident in Kolkata is beyond disturbing. What’s scary is that it’s neither the first nor the last. But there is hope if we speak up and fight the good fight. The nonviolent freedom struggle must not go in vain. We owe it to them. #independencedayindia #Speakupforjustice #Nomoresilence #violenceagainstwomen #kolkatarapecase #freedom
Coming back to Delhi, where I grew up, is always bittersweet. A bit chaotic and aggressive, but more trees and monuments. And my family and friends is what makes the visits special. This time, I met some and some I couldn’t. Took photos with some and some I forgot to take with. Had a delicious meal with @_adilhussain and his lovely wife #KristenJain, chatted non-stop with #ShohiniGhosh, went to The Piano Man for music and chitchat with my lawyer friend #GitikaAggarwal, popped in to the Dhumal’s and also to my chachu’s @raghurai.official Managed to even catch up with @deepamehtaofficial! Went to a book conversation with @namitagokhale and @asatwik. And at an event by @boito.in for weaves from Odisha. Had a little get-together at my father’s and belatedly tied Rakhi to my brother, #siddharthadas at my mother’s. Packed trip! Navigated the city through water logging and the haphazard traffic. There are more tit bits, but here is my short update and an entry in my diary. And the flight is now taking off to Kolkata. Doors closing!! #delhi #travel #familyandfriends

Today Aruna di is no more. A big loss to me, my family and to every person whose life she touched. Many would know her as the “Mother of Asian Cinema”. She is the one who started the Osian Cinefan Film Festival in Delhi, brought out the wonderful magazine ‘Cinemaya’ and even made documentaries. She was also the director of the Film Festival on Art and Artists that my father started in Odisha. But more importantly, she was a special person. Spirited, warm, affectionate…who loved people, art, cinema and lived life to the fullest. I will miss her raspy voice, loving hugs and conversations about anything and everything. Though she was a friend of my parents, I was just as close to her. My father and she shared a very deep camaraderie and always cared about each other’s well being. If I had to wish for a friendship, that’s the kind I would wish for. There was no one like her. I know I am not alone in grieving and celebrating her life. Big hug to them all as we bid goodbye to our favourite Aruna di. PS. I realise how few photos we take when we are actually living fully! Will try to remember to take more with people I love and want to cherish always. #arunavasudev #cinemaya #osianfilmfestival #asiancinema #friendship

Sad. What we have done to our shores…our mangroves. Right in the middle of the city of #mumbai . In one of the coolest areas – #bandrawest We are all complicit. More consumption, more wastage, more abuse of nature. We all pass by it, turning a blind eye. What to do? We can at least make small changes in our life to be more mindful.
