This week has been simultaneously one of the most challenging and rewarding i’ve had. Artistically, creatively and personally. The catalyst for that is Cecilia Gentili, and her brilliant show red ink. Cecilia let the type of life and did the type of things that in several years people will be talking about her the way they talk about Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera I believe. The show is personal and intimate, and wacky and Wild, extreme, hilarious and very, very risque. But most of all it’s just real. And I connect with and resonate with this material in a way that I’ve not had the opportunity to in the past. I love all types of art and live performance. But I most turned on by the opportunity to perform art as activism. And that’s exactly what this is. I am so proud and also extremely nervous each night to present this material to the audience because there’s a certain rawness that I’m not used to sharing with an audience. And perhaps this is why I feel like I’m growing every single night when I perform this material that’s been gifted to me. ( thanks to @breakingthebinarytheater ) I’ve been posting a lot about it… daily. That’s because I’m not sure when the next time is I’ll be able to perform something like this and each night is different, that’s the beauty of live theater.. I sat down to talk with @Adameli for @papermagazine about performing in the show and my thoughts about religion and sex work and of course my connection to Cecilia. Check I’ll be interview in my stories and grab tickets at the link in my bio. 📸@hunterabrams #redink #ceciliagentili #trans #NYC #theater #breakingthebinary

Tonight’s the night, it’s closing night, and I’ve got all types of emotions swirling around. Mostly gratitude, and admiration, gratitude and admiration for Cecilia Gentilly and her perseverance and resilience, gratitude and admiration for the type of community or chosen family that she was able to build, gratitude and admiration for the absolute love and fierce protectiveness those community members and everyone who loved her still holding their eyes, absolute gratitude an admiration for all of the creatives who worked to bring this show to where it is. An absolute gratitude for the opportunity to contribute in any small way. I’m obviously grateful for the chance of having met Cecilia and been inspired by her. I’m grateful for what she actually did for me in giving me guidance very early on as a young trans woman, I had no idea that the words of wisdom that she was imparting on me we’re probably inspired by the trans women who inspired her. I’m grateful that after years of personal struggle, I had more than one option when it came to how to survive in the big city. I know that’s a blessing and a privilege considering how few options most trans women actually have. I’m grateful to everyone who’s come to the show and was touched by Cecilia’s story. This has been one of the most challenging and rewarding artistic experiences I’ve ever had and I will never forget it, and it will inform everything I do from here on out… thank you Cecilia, my sweet Cecilia I hope I made you proud. @genderlib Don’t miss out on these iconic performers coming to the first-ever #GenderLiberation March this Saturday, September 14, in DC! Featured Performers: @peppermint247 @juniormintt @miyakemugler.official @griffinmaxwellbrooks Around the country, politicians and courts are trying to control our bodies and our futures through bans on abortion and gender affirming care. The Gender Liberation March is a celebration of all that is possible and an insistence on our determination to fight for it. Join us SATURDAY AFTERNOON 9/14 on the doorstep of the Heritage Foundation to stand with our communities and show that we’re not backing down. SIGN UP ➡️ LINK IN OUR BIO
Reposted from @chasestrangio: Today we filed our brief on behalf of trans youth, their families and a TN doctor in United States v. Skrmetti, our case challenging Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for trans adolescents. The Supreme Court will hear arguments in our case this Winter and we expect a decision in June of 2025. As government discrimination against trans people is more rampant than ever, the stakes could not be higher. And not just for trans people. The Court’s ultimate decision will not only affect the ability of trans people to secure constitutional protections but it will also test how far the Court’s decision overturning the right to abortion will reach into other areas of law. Constitutional protections for sex discrimination are under threat across so many areas of life as we contend with legal and political structures invested in enforcing regressive gender norms for everyone. The more we are tethered to expectations associated with our sex assigned at birth, the less free we are. This case is a fight for all of us. Pay attention and join us!
