Tamannaah Instagram – “I feel any creative collaboration seeks a faith – the kind where you know you can free fall and the other person will catch you. It’s a very vulnerable space, and while as a creative director you look for that in the actor and performer, the actor has to believe in you even more so because from makeup, styling, visuals, the narrative – everything – is going to be defined by the director.
With @tamannaahspeaks , right after the first phone call, she told me ‘I surrender myself to you’. For me, that was the most essential in confidently placing her as Radha; I needed someone to have that faith, knowing ~ I would not do injustice to this story, or to them.
And from then on, it was almost magical. She gave me her patience and trust towards my creative vision ~ with every small detail I wanted to make sure of, with every 10 takes I wanted of something, with the time I wanted to spend at each stage, on each set. We shot this is the scorching heat of May, yet she would not move away from the set until I was happy. She would constantly ask me if I have what I needed, and as a director I needed that the most. Especially for this project, because it’s coming from such a spiritual space.
There were moments where we felt divinity, too. We would just look at each other, in realization and acceptance that there’s something bigger than us helping with this; helping everything fall into place. We felt Krishna’s presence blessing us, almost.
And as a result of that, today we have found a friendship that I hope will last a lifetime. A protective shield we feel towards each other after sharing those moments of vulnerability as artists. Where we know, we’d never let the other one fall.
