I am honoured and excited to share with the world my journey. A lot of love, hard work dedication and support goes into me just existing. I am extremely grateful to everybody who has contributed to not only my life, but also this project.
It is often said that it takes a village to raise a child, well the same rules apply to living with a Spinal Cord Injury.

David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived, an @HBO and Sky Original Documentary which tells the extraordinary story of Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double and their lasting friendship, premieres on HBO 15th November and on Sky TV on 18th November @streamonmax. #DavidHolmesHBO @skytv #davidholmessky #skydocs #Stunts #Stuntman #NHS #harrypotter #DanielRadcliffe #HBO #disability #spinalcordinjury #NHS #

David Holmes Instagram - Back in 2009, Jack Black was in the UK filming the movie Gulliver’s Travels. Jack was working closely with the stunt team and heard about my accident, and being the nice guy we all know he is, he dedicated some of his own time at the end of the filming day to come and visit me on the spinal ward with his stunt double, Jimmy. Here is a photo from that day and proof that he really is one of the nicest men in Hollywood. He brought joy to my bedside, but also spent time with all the other people in the hospital bay who had found themselves there after suffering a spinal cord injury.

The same year I flew out to Florida and Jimmy Waitman (Jack’s stunt double - left) was kind enough to show me around the Indiana Jones stunt show at the Disney Theme Park.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jack and Jimmy for giving up their time, and for brightening up my day and the whole spinal ward at the Stanmore Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
David Holmes Instagram - Finally, I’m going to leave you with this. After all that and the review of my year I want to show what it really takes to live with my Disability. Hear is a real of photographs taken by good friend of mine and top photographer @isaaac.co.uk. In this, I am showing what it takes just for me to get out of bed and get dressed. I am only able to live my life and achieve what I can achieve because of the wonderful people who help me exist in this wonderful world.

I lost some good friends this year and it reminds me to be grateful of every single breath and second we get on this planet. Despite how hard it is we only got one life and we have to love the life we live. there is beauty in the struggle and ugliness in success. Happy New Year to you all.

David Holmes Instagram - Once again, I found myself under the care of the NHS.

I believe that the National Health Service is the best example of what a functioning democracy should be. For any UK citizens, it is the parent they take for granted and have throughout their life. They were here for you when you were born and they will be there when you die. It’s an institution I adore. 15 years ago they saved my life and I will always do my best to sing their praises.

So today I’m a day patient doing a routine Botox operation on my bladder. If I was having this procedure in America, it would probably cost way more than $10,000, yet as a UK citizen, I’m getting it for free.

We hear all the time about the dysfunction the system is currently in. And yes, there is always room for improvement, but this takes investment, training and most importantly individuals who commit their working lives to the care of helping others. As the UK government enlists the help of private companies and algorithms to try and streamline time and costs, I ask the question, ā€œCan you code compassion?ā€

Right now the NHS needs all the help it can get, but this takes governments who are willing to hold themselves accountable with implementing policies that first lead with empathy as its driving factor, not cost. I would like to thank anybody who works for the NHS, from the cleaners to the surgeons: you are all the everyday heroes that most of society and our government takes for granted.
David Holmes Instagram - If anybody is wondering why I’m not going to be live on stage at this week’s TEDxSoho, well, this is the reason I’m currently in bed with one of the worst infections I have been hit with in ages. I’m waiting on some results back, but I think I might have either E. coli or a urine infection.

This is the reality of disability … you work so hard for something, be so excited for something then the reality of living in my body has humbled me once again. So it’s back to my mattress prison for at least a week I reckon. I have to recover from this infection, I also have a small cut on my backside, which is going to force more bedrest on top.

I really am devastated. I have spent months learning a 10 minute monologue after working with a couple of amazing writers to try and and trim what I originally proposed. I have learned and learned and learned this speech and I really wanted to be up on that stage representing myself, my disability, the stunt community and my documentary in the best way possible but fate and circumstance has dealt me a cruel, cruel blow and I must lie here humbled taking care of myself and my body so I can live to fight another day.
David Holmes Instagram - Holy poo ball, Batman one of my best friends is now a proud recipient of a Tony award.

Merrily We Roll Along is famous for being one of the hardest musicals to perform and after catching it when I was in New York in November I can definitely confirm this fact.

The whole cast delivers something beyond musical theatre that is complex witty and funny to it's core with amazing musical numbers, difficult choreography and some of the most intense pacing you've ever seen live on a stage.

The fact that Daniel has won is proof to me once again that he is one of the best actors of his generation not only on screen but also on stage.

I could not be more proud of Dan, not only for the run of nearly a year on Broadway doing eight shows a week but also for his commitment to the cast and the crew to agreeing to the shows extension putting himself through extra months of this super intense play for the benefit of all who are in the production and most importantly, the audiences who got the opportunity to view such an absolute masterpiece

Well done Dan, proud of you mate and love you very much.
David Holmes Instagram - So every year for the past 15 years the David Holmes Charity Cricket Match has been running a closed door event for all my family and friends from the film industry, as well as plenty of my old classmates from Harry Potter.

It’s such a wonderful day, and thanks to Amy Stares who arranges it each year we have raised over Ā£100,000 for the Royal Orthapedic Hospital, which is where I was treated for my recovery injury. I’m still under the care of the expert team and that hospital to this day.

I’m proud to announce that this year the cricket match is going to be live streamed so that anybody who wants to watch the event can, as well as contribute to the Fundraising appeal, raising money for @the.rnoh.charity and @greatormondst. Fundraising link in bio.

David Holmes Instagram - 100,000 followers — Wow!

I’m not sure whether you’re here because you saw my documentary or you read something online about me, but either way, I’m thankful.

I’m not perfect and life with a spinal cord injury is really, really hard, but I’ve always been proud of not taking the easy road. Every day my body tells me to stay in bed. Despite this, every day I still get up, show up and push for life. We all only get one go at this, it’s not a rehearsal, so I encourage all of you to try and love the life you live. I'm on holiday right now, trying to do just that despite how difficult travel can be for me.

On this page I want to share my journey through life with you as well as messages of hope and appreciation and also recommendations for the music I love. And watch this space because I have a lot I want to achieve…

PS. There’s a link in the bio to raise money for the hospital that saved my life and still supports me all year round. Please donate whatever you can.

Instead of accepting this reality, I’m not going down without a fight. For the last few years I have been pushing for a max breath hold with a self-taught technique. Now after some training with Ian at Free Dive UK, I am aiming to build on his teachings and hopefully push for my Mount Everest which is five minutes.

These images provide a deeply intimate glimpse into the life of a quadriplegic man and the dedicated effort of his team to prepare him. This project not only sheds light on someone’s most vulnerable moments but also offers insight into the experience of disability.

David has been a dear family friend for a long time, and I’ve known him since before the accident. His daily inspiration, as he continues to radiate positivity even in the most challenging of circumstances, truly amazes me. When he asked me to come meet him to shoot just the process of him getting ready for the premier I knew I had to.

If you haven’t watch the documentary I recommend you do so to understand his amazing life. He was the lead stunt double on the Harry Potter franchise which then lead him to having an accident of the filming of the last film.
Finally shout out to: @matt.genovese for assisting me on the day.

David Holmes Instagram - I’ve been doing this religiously every Physio session for the past few years. Not only am I able to sit up right without the excruciating pain of the weight of my head on my neck, but Holding my breath gives me a sense of control. I am losing more neurological function every year there is a real chance that independent breathing might be impaired in my future. 4:25 is my record and five minutes is my Mount Everest. #StillDoingStunts #BreathControl #powerofthemindset #WaterBaby #setgoalsnotlimits
David Holmes Instagram - So here’s a throwback photo I’ve already posted before, but thought it’s worth throwing out there on the day before the BAFTAs. If you haven’t watched my documentary then I’d like to inform all Harry Potter fans that it wasn’t just Harry I performed stunts for. Here is a photo of me after I had just doubled Tom Felton aka Draco Malfoy as he fell off of his broomstick in the Quidditch match in HP2.

The stunt itself was one of my many wire gags and for anyone watching if you pause it at the right time, you can see my face!

Not only did I perform a stunt in this Quidditch match, but I also was a Slytherin Beater myself.

Also, another really cool detail is that just after the Quidditch match in the film you can see me at Malfoy’s bedside comforting him from his injuries he sustained in the match. So it’s me pretending to be empathetic consoling Tom Felton over a stunt I actually performed for him. The magic of the movies. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
David Holmes Instagram - The BAFTAs last night was a fun adventure. My documentary was nominated but unfortunately didn’t win. I want to congratulate Ellie Simmonds and her team for the well deserved win and also say congrats to every one at the event. It's still unacceptable that I was the only stunt performer in the room and if I’d of won I’d have said something on stage about my department being overlooked.

Honestly it was fun but unless BAFTA starts recognising stunts I wouldn’t do it again. I didn’t see any other department members who were willing to risk their lives and bodies for the sake of storytelling and I just sat in a room too cold for a quadriplegic surrounded by people from a whole industry who don’t think stunt performers deserve a category.

David Holmes Instagram - So my favourite film review team Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo just reviewed my documentary ā€˜David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived’ on their show ā€˜Kermode & Mayo’s Take’

I can’t tell you how much this means to me. Unknowingly, this pair have been there for me since 2009. After my accident, I had a bit of post-traumatic stress. It would come on when I was falling asleep, I would dream and hear the noises of the worst moment of my life. It is at this time, that I found their podcast. They discussed all things film with unbelievably witty banter, amazing taste in film and TV, and a friendship that is obvious for all to hear. Wherever I am in the world, they have always given me a sense of home and safety.

I owe these men a debt of gratitude for the thousands of hours that have got me through difficult times, whilst also exposing me to the best of art through film.

It is truly an honour to hear that the pair of them connected to my documentary, and my story and gave it a rave review.

Thank you @kermodedodge, @kermodeandmayo and a special hello to @therealjasonisaacs

David Holmes Instagram - In 2008, between the Potter movies, I worked on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Both myself and Marc Mailley were brought in to double for the kids, with Marc being the stunt double for young Dastan and myself the double for his childhood friend in the film. My job was to be jumping around rooftops performing parkour, evading capture. Marc actually performed the biggest gags and I was to do a few.

Mike Newell was directing - he had also directed Potter 4, so knew me well. He’s a lovely man and actually visited me in hospital after my accident.

Our job started with flying out to Morocco, a couple of nights in Marrakesh, and then a scenic drive over the Atlas Mountains to the town of Ouarzazate, a known filming town at the top of the Sahara desert, previously used as a location for the movies Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Kingdom of Heaven. Gladiator 2 has just finished filming there. Upon arriving in town, I instantly realise the whole place is just set up for making movies. There are old pieces of film sets just sitting in the desert everywhere. Not far from the town there are mud buildings dating to thousands of years old which we used for filming.

Filming stunts in the scorching heat presented its own problems, but you just get on with it and between set ups we just chased shade wherever we could find it and drank a camel’s portion of water.

The best part of the whole job was the Morocco wrap party where I got myself nicely inebriated and started doing flips off the hotel roof into to pool and proceeded to leave an impression on Jake Gyllenhaal, who was dong impressions of my cockney accent for weeks afterwards. It was such a great film to work on, and one of my fondest movie-making memories from my career.

It was such a great film to work on, and one of my fondest movie-making memories from my career.

David Holmes Instagram - The impact of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) cannot be overstated.

I could not be more thankful for the outpouring of love and support for my documentary David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived. The main reason I am able to be here now is due to their expert team at the RNOH. That’s why I became an ambassador for the RNOH Charity over 10 years ago.

The Spinal Cord Injury Centre, where I stayed, is dedicated to comprehensive rehabilitation for people like me who experienced life changing spinal cord injuries. The centre needs funds for its out-dated Day room to create a space that enhances the wellbeing of patients, promotes community and elevates morale during recovery.

Please join me in supporting the incredible work of the RNOH and helping other patients who face similar challenges by supporting (give only what you can afford) the Go-Fund Me in our biošŸ”— - you’ll find more in depth information about the RNOH and its impact there as well. We aim to raise the funds before Christmas so the work can begin in the new year.

Thank you so much for helping to support the hospital that rebuilds lives like mine. Best wishes, David Holmes.

*In the event that we raise surplus funds, the RNOH Charity will allocate these funds towards its most pressing needs and general charitable activities.

David Holmes Instagram - Not many people, actually just three of us, myself, the other Harry stunt double @tolgakenan1 and Daniel Radcliffe himself, got to read the Harry Potter books and know that we'd be performing the action and stunts for Harry's adventures.

It was one hell of a privilege. I still remember reading the Goblet of Fire, excited to know I would be fighting dragons, and visiting underwater worlds.

Both myself and Tolga would quite often shoot whole sequences on the 2nd Unit so that when Dan would come to film these scenes his time would be utilised efficiently. What you see here is a small clip of my pre-visualisation sequence of Harry battling the dragon.

As a stunt double it was important to ensure the safety of my actor. Dan and I spent years together in stunt training so that when we came to action sequences, I had confidence in his physical ability to perform his stunts which he did plenty of throughout the franchise. In this sequence, Dan slid from a height of 50 feet down a slate roof himself with the stunt department, and a load of crash mats at the bottom of the roof to catch him. A great stunt and a very proud moment for the three of us.

After New York, I flew home and went straight into the London Premiere, a giant event, hosted by @skytv . It was attended by some of my old Potter cast mates, production team and friends and family. I was on stage in front of a few hundred people being interviewed by a childhood hero of mine, former Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huk.

Two days after the Sky, event at my documentary was shown to the wider world released on #HBOMax in the USA and #Skytv in the UK.
Since then the whirlwind got stronger, the outpouring of love and appreciation I have been shown across the Instagram and social media in general has been truly humbling. My story has really connected to people from all walks of life, able and disabled, and it has told me that there is strength in showing vulnerability. David Holmes Instagram - This summer I finished off a property development (making sure it could accommodate for a disabled homeowner) one road away from my house and then I stayed at home storing up vital energy in preparation for the second half of the year for when my documentary. #DavidHolmesTheBoyWhoLived.
The weather this summer wasn’t the best, but on a few good days I made the most of my beautiful garden and created memories with loved ones in the place I call home. #LeighOnSea making sure I never missed the sunset, ate healthy food and worked hard on my body and my mind with physiotherapy and positive reinforcement.
I also treated myself to a new car which I took delivery of on my birthday and drove it up north with a new kitten to someone very special.
The summer ended as it usually does with the annual David Holmes cricket cup where my friends and family gather to play a game of cricket and raise some money for the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. #Rnoh #Self-Care #CharityWork #HomeIsWhereTheHeartIs #RangeRover set

David Holmes Instagram - Don't carry the weight.....

As you learned from my last post, it's been a really really hard week and I've already been through the ringer as of late. I had so many messages from people who expressed their anger and frustration towards the people who took advantage of me, and this is justified. But instead of holding hate and blame in your heart for me, I'm asking you all to not carry the weight. I am okay, I've survived a broken neck and I continue to live with the deteriorating condition yet I refuse to let it change me. I refuse to let these people change my outlook on the world. I still believe the majority of human beings are compassionate have love and empathy in their hearts...

So instead, I am trying to focus on the positives. If you're a racing fan, please check out @Channel4formula1 and their coverage of this weekend's British Grand Prix. I did something very special with my friend @billymongerracing.

In the near future I plan to share my story of this fraud to try and educate others with the help of my friend @benshephardofficial by hopefully appearing on @thismorning next week.

Finally I'm excited for this weekend's British Grand Prix where I am a guest of @redbullracing as part of my ambassador role for the 'Wings for Life'foundation.

Fingers crossed for good weather and a safe race for all the amazing drivers.

David Holmes Instagram - This is Robert Grayson

Last week I was informed of the sad news of Roberts sudden passing.

Anybody who worked with Rob in the film industry knows Robert was one of the best assistant directors the industry ever produced. I had many fun times with this man. he was exceptionally good at his job ,devilishly handsome always funny and made everybody feel welcome around him

This photo was taken when he joined me celebrating my 21st birthday and Little Italy restaurant in Soho .

Like stunt performers assistant directors are very much the unsung heroes of the film industry they are never given awards yet they are always the hardest working department and responsible for almost every aspect of the filmmaking process and not one movie could be made without them

I urge anybody to check out his credit list on IMDb Just so they can know how much of a contribution to the world of entertainment he made.

I’m sending love and comfort to all of Rob family friends and loved ones
Rest in peace, mate

David Holmes Instagram - So yesterday I had the honour of visiting legend Matt Hampson OBE, founder of the Get Busy Living Centre. Matt is beyond a legend. He was injured playing rugby for England under 21s and he turned his experience into something beyond positive.

I also got to meet someone I’ve been a fan of for a couple of years. George Robinson is a young disabled actor who shot to fame on the Netflix series Sex Education. George played a complex new character and wasn’t just ā€˜the disabled kid’ in the show. Not only am I excited to see his career blossom and future roles he will no doubt smash but hopefully the pair of us can work together and bring some more characters and stories about disabled people, who are more than just a person with a disability to audiences in the future.

Thank you Hambo and everybody at the Get Busy Living Centre for the warm welcome and for everything you guys do for our community.
David Holmes Instagram - ā€œJust breatheā€

Breathing is something we all take for granted. It’s the most automatic of actions and most of us never really give it the attention it deserves… well, not me.

The higher the impairment of the spinal cord the more impact it has on independent breathing. I don’t know where my journey is going to end up. If I pay attention to some of the tests I do at hospital then the assistance of a ventilator is a very real possibility.

So instead of crumbling under that fear, I’m pushing back.

I recently had one-to-one tuition with Ian from @freediveuk. The last couple of years I have been sitting on the bottom of my pool whilst breathing from a scuba tank. it’s the only time in life I can sit upright without the weight of my head on my shoulders and the pain that comes with it. I get a real sense of calm when it’s just me and the bubbles. I get into a meditative state. I’m also able to focus on the pure act of breathing alone.

Ian came out to my house and started to share his expertise on the professional freediving technique. Turns out my self-taught technique was on the right path and only a few tweaks were necessary to get me up to the regular 4 minutes breath hold I get to this current day. 4 minutes 25 seconds is my current record and as mentioned in this video, 5 minutes is my Mount Everest and even if I never make it, I know the most important part is the journey.

So I encourage you all to just breathe, pull in a deep breath through your nose. Fill your lungs. Use the full extent of your diaphragm and then exhale…

Every breath is a gift and one we should not take for granted.

One last thing… as you all take this breath please remember that at the same time someone in this world is taking their last. Gratitude is the best attitude. Just breathe…

Thanks again to Ian from @freediveuk, Tommy my best mate and also my physio @lgreatrex for their help and nerves of steal when pushing a quadriplegic under the water for four minutes at a time.
David Holmes Instagram - Valencia, the city of doors. There really is something quite special about this city. Not just because of its unique architecture old and new, amazing cathedral or the fact that it’s the home of paella.

It really is one of my favourite Spanish cities, far quieter than Barcelona, with lots of green spaces and one of the best things about it is accessibility. I’ve visited numerous times, first in a manual wheelchair and now exploring the city in a large power chair. When you’re on wheels, you spend your life looking down at the ground, monitoring the road surface ahead for any potential dangers that could easily tip you out of your wheelchair. Well, in the old town section of Valencia there are no curbs, very few cars and there are accessible, inclusive spaces everywhere. This means my eyes can be up, truly taking in the beauty of the environment.

If you have a visit, don’t forget to pop into the cathedral where you’ll find a very haunting, amazing masterpiece by 18th century artist Francisco de Goya.

This is not the first and it won’t be the last time I come back to this beautiful city.
David Holmes Instagram - Not my quote, so I can’t claim to this, but these words are pretty true to me right now /…..There is no Wi-Fi in the forest, but you will definitely find a better connection.
David Holmes Instagram - Not my quote, so I can’t claim to this, but these words are pretty true to me right now /…..There is no Wi-Fi in the forest, but you will definitely find a better connection.
David Holmes Instagram - So Sunday night me and my partner went and stayed at the Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire. I’ve stayed here many times before and unfortunately they only have 4 accessible suites but they are in the backside of the hotel and overlook the car park. Being there is a luxury hotel experience and the garden view rooms do not have any wheelchair access. I think this is not good enough. This time around I actually booked a garden view room and made do because I have a very good PA who is capable of lifting me in the shower.

I have highlighted in this video how this garden view room could easily be converted to accommodate for wheelchair users, also giving direct access to the front of the grounds. The room itself has got more than enough square footage, and the bathroom will only require a slight adjustment to the entrance door and the shower itself and then it could easily fit a shower chair.

Accessible rooms that overlook the car park have small windows, have a bad view and are often a lot noisier than the ones at the front of the hotel. That is why I booked my garden view room, as the day after I had a very important work event and I wanted a quiet restful sleep.

The rest of my stay I can’t complain about – the linens were great. The bed was comfortable. The dinner, which was the buffet on Sunday night is still one of the best roast dinners you could ever have and the grounds and communal spaces are really nice to interact in.

This place is not cheap and only offering four accessible rooms that overlook a carpark is not good enough so going forward, I would expect whenever renovations happen, for the Grove to make sure that they can accommodate for a wheelchair access room, overlooking in the gardens, allowing for clean, step-free access to the outside spaces.

Hope from a heavy heart.

David Holmes Instagram - In a year of great movies, plenty were awarded honours at last night's Academy awards, however I would like to celebrate a category not recognised.

Stunts are an integral part of the storytelling process, but we do not get our own category, despite it being called out almost every year by actors and other department members when accepting their awards.

So this year, here are a few of my favourite stunts performed by expert professionals who risk their lives and bodies for the sake of the storytelling process. Yes, it can be said that some actors do perform their own gags, but it takes meticulous rehearsals and planning and working closely with the stunt co-ordinators, fight arrangers, stunt, doubles, wire technicians, stunt horse masters, and stunt safety crews.

I salute all of my friends across the worldwide stunt industry, and I know that despite the Academy and the BAFTAs not recognising you as the artists you are, I know all too well about the risk and sometimes ultimate sacrifices made.

Tickets are now on sale, and anybody who wants to come, listen to me, support, or just be entertained for a few hours by a lot smarter people than me, then please check out the website and the link in my bio.

I hope I make everybody proud, and I want to thank the organisers at Ted for giving me the platform to share my perspectives.
David Holmes Instagram - So as some of you might have seen on my feed last week, I spent some time at Stanmore Hospital for a routine botox operation. Before I went down, I spent 20 minutes in the morning to raise awareness of my current fundraiser to redecorate the day room. If you want to help me refurbish the room, go to the GoFundMe page linked in my profile.

After having a look in the day room and showing you guys around, I decided to pop out to the best thing that ever happened to Stanmore in recent years: Horatio’s Garden. As you can see in this video, this is one of the most beautiful spaces for people to be in when going through the toughest of times. Please search for Horatio’s Garden, who are installing beautiful spaces like this on spinal units up and down the country.

Finally, thanks again to all the expert dedicated professionals that work at Stanmore Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and anybody who gives their life in service for the NHS.
David Holmes Instagram - So #InternationalWheelchairDay

As a Wheelchair user for the last 15 years, I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with my wheels and the world. Sometimes a wheelchair can feel like a prison.

As my disability has continued to change in the past 15 years, I’ve gone from a manual wheelchair to a power wheelchair. This was a very hard transition for me to undertake emotionally.

I would like to remind everybody that ultimately disability affects us all and we are unfortunately currently in a situation where there is no disability representative in parliament, and the institutions in charge do not feel like this is a necessary requirement going forward.

So Happy International Wheelchair Day to anybody who navigates the world on wheels. Regardless of the reason that you got your wheels we are all soldiers and we should all collectively celebrate the freedom that the wheels give us and challenge governments and places to be inclusive for all.

A shout out to some people in the community I’ve recently started following, who are also sharing stories and their insight to their lives in chairs.

David Holmes Instagram - So immensely proud of my friend @maxwhitlock and all of the boys competing in today’s Olympic team competition. Not many people know but many years ago I was approached by Max through my friend his coach @scotthann to sponsor him early in his career. I was there in the audience in London 2012 as they made history achieving team bronze as well as Max getting one of his many individual medals he’s had over his illustrious carer. Good luck today, mate to you and all of team GB.

David Holmes Instagram - As July is Disability Pride Month, I thought I would make a quick video to celebrate the fact I am part of an exceptional community of human beings. In this honest video I reflect on the fact that it’s been pretty difficult for me recently, but I’m not afraid to show the hard times, and I do my best to not let my disability hold me back. I am proud and honoured to have my wheels, to be a survivor and I hope everyone in society accepts me for who I am, just how I am.
David Holmes Instagram - Once again, I was reminded that when it comes to large chain hotels, it would always be profit over people, and as long as the square footage is fit for purpose, the hotels can call the room accessible. I can tell you this the room that I used was in no way big enough for a wheelchair and a shower chair plus luggage to navigate around.
If I had to use a hoist to get in bed, this is another bulky piece of equipment that would definitely have been a struggle to use in the space. Hotels need to start to truly assess the needs of people across the whole range of disability and not just tick boxes because of government mandates under the disability discrimination act. What if my partner was in a wheelchair and the two of us wanted to stay in the same room together? We couldn’t, simply because there would not have been enough space to accommodate two chairs as well as a shower chair, a hoist and any luggage. This hotel was part of a large chain, a giant corporation that could do better to accommodate for people with disabilities.

David Holmes Instagram - It was my birthday last week. I didn’t have the best of times. Anyone who spotted my recent post will be aware that I was victim of a very sophisticated telephone banking scam.

Putting that behind me, yesterday I attended the British Grand Prix as a guest of Red Bull thanks to now being an ambassador for the Red Bull Wings for Life charity. What a day and what a race! I can’t tell you how much I needed to have a positive experience and it really did make for a memorable birthday, especially that Lewis Hamilton won. Thank you once again everybody at Red Bull Wings for Life foundation for hosting me. Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton and all the drivers who competed in yesterdayā€˜s race. It really was a day and a race to remember.
David Holmes Instagram - I had the upmost pleasure of attending the Murcia film festival at the weekend.

I was invited by organiser Ruben alongside my good friend and 2nd Unit director Peter MacDonald (2nd photo). Me and Peter worked together for many years on the Harry Potter films and we share some amazing memories.

It was so nice to be in a room full of film fans from all ages. I spoke about what it was like to be a stuntman as well as some stories from my time spent at Hogwarts.

Thank you again to everybody who came to the Q&A session, to Ruben and most importantly to the beautiful city of Murcia. It’s so nice to see such a vibrant community of film lovers gather together for a celebration of cinema.

David Holmes Instagram - Today is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day. The numbers for people diagnosed with spinal cord injuries are actually double than what was previously estimated. In the UK alone, 4,400 people are diagnosed with a spinal cord injury each year. That’s one person every two hours…
To everybody in the community I belong to: I see you, I am one of you, and I’m proud of every single one of us. We are all soldiers living in a world that quite often makes us feel less than, yet we still push on and live our lives despite the challenges. To anyone newly injured out there, give yourself time, have faith that you will learn to adapt and live on, and never forget that you are not alone. #SCIAD @spinal_injuries
David Holmes Instagram - So my special project was actually visiting the campus of Sky TV in Osterley.Ā
Ā
After the recent launch of the Sky glass product I found out that they are yet to launch an app for iPhone and Android users which is something that they already offer with Sky Q.Ā
Ā
Because the app is not up and running yet there are many customers who like me use voice control to navigate using their phones. If you are a high spinal cord injury with no arms then having technology like this really frees up your independence and more importantly this independence improves mental health and well-being. Imagine having to ask a carer every time you want to turn the television to a different channel?Ā
Ā
So after my documentary, I am fortunate enough to have some contacts within the corporation and after raising the issue with Sky, I was approached by the very lovely Clare Davidson, who is head of product inclusion and equality.Ā
Ā
Myself and my partner were invited down to the Osterley campus to meet various members of the team to discuss hardware and software ideas. Going forward we’re going to help input into the usability of the app. I also made suggestions on how physical remotes and interactions with their products could be improved.Ā
Ā
It was so nice to be in a room full of people whose objective is inclusive design for all people across the range of disabilities and I know we have plenty of work going forward, but I’m very excited to be involved and thankful for the invite to the home of Sky TV UK.
Ā
I did my best to avoid gate crashing SKY NEWS, or the SKY SPORTS office and doing some sport celebrity spotting or ranting around the lack of inclusion in society, especially with no representation for disability under the current government.Ā
Ā
I want to thank Clare and everybody from the team we met. It really was a productive day and I do hope going forward we continue working for more inclusive products and advancements within the corporation to always think outside the box with problem solving with empathy and compassion as a core foundation in their design ethos.

David Holmes Instagram - I had the pleasure of meeting these young wonderful human beings at the Young Carers Charity in Benfleet.

Young Carers are children and young people aged between 5-18 years old, who provide emotional, physical or practical care to someone who experiences poor physical or mental health or disability, usually in their own family. This charity specialises in creating a safe space for young minds whose background is not the easiest to navigate. The charity offers individual help and support to young carers and their families by providing activities that help to build skills, maintain physical and mental health and wellbeing needed for their role as a young carer along with the chance to have fun and make new friends in similar circumstances.

It was so nice to meet them all and tell them some of my Harry Potter stories and genuinely be around such positive energy.

I do believe it’s vital to provide access to spaces like this around the country. Child development is key to providing a better society for tomorrow and should be one of the top priorities of any government. It should not be solely left to charities who have to fight for every penny they get. Most importantly we should be supporting the people who care about a better tomorrow by putting the work in today.

I would like to thank all the people involved in the charity, especially Sharon Box who I understand always goes above and beyond to provide a variety of experiences in a safe and welcoming space for these youngsters to learn and grow.
Lastly I would like to thank all the wonderful bright minds who weren’t afraid to ask difficult questions. They all brought joy and a lovely energy to my evening.

David Holmes Instagram - Autumn continues
In November, I flew to New York and premiered the film at the New York documentary festival . Thankfully, the strike ended and I was able to do some of the promotional work with one of my best mates Dan. Navigating the press attention was a challenge, and I had to do so, whilst also taking care of my body whilst it goes through another change. New York was mind blowing an upgrade @thedominickhotel gave me one of the best views of my life. I ate great food caught up with some old friends and drove through Central Park whilst listening to Frank Sinatra and John Lennon with a bit of hip-hop and Fred again thrown in.

David Holmes - 19K Likes - Back in 2009, Jack Black was in the UK filming the movie Gulliver’s Travels.

David Holmes - 12.8K Likes - Once again, I found myself under the care of the NHS.

David Holmes - 11.9K Likes - If anybody is wondering why I’m not going to be live on stage at this week’s TEDxSoho, well, this is the reason I’m currently in bed with one of the worst infections I have been hit with in ages.

I’m proud to announce that this year the cricket match is going to be live streamed so that anybody who wants to watch the event can, as well as contribute to the Fundraising appeal, raising money for @the.rnoh.charity and @greatormondst. Fundraising link in bio.

Now after some training with Ian at Free Dive UK, I am aiming to build on his teachings and hopefully push for my Mount Everest which is five minutes.

ā€œThe Boy Who Lived Premiereā€ for @hbo

David Holmes - 7.9K Likes - So here’s a throwback photo I’ve already posted before, but thought it’s worth throwing out there on the day before the BAFTAs.

The magic of the movies. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

David Holmes - 7.5K Likes - The BAFTAs last night was a fun adventure.

I didn’t see any other department members who were willing to risk their lives and bodies for the sake of storytelling and I just sat in a room too cold for a quadriplegic surrounded by people from a whole industry who don’t think stunt performers deserve a category.

I want to congratulate Ellie Simmonds and her team for the well deserved win and also say congrats to every one at the event. David Holmes - 5.2K Likes - So my favourite film review team Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo just reviewed my documentary ā€˜David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived’ on their show ā€˜Kermode & Mayo’s Take’

David Holmes - 4.9K Likes - In 2008, between the Potter movies, I worked on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

David Holmes - 4.9K Likes - The impact of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) cannot be overstated.

Please join me in supporting the incredible work of the RNOH and helping other patients who face similar challenges by supporting (give only what you can afford) the Go-Fund Me in our biošŸ”— – you’ll find more in depth information about the RNOH and its impact there as well. #davidholmestheboywholived #davidholmes #RNOH #gofundme #rnohcharity #spinalcordinjuryawareness

Words can’t describe how proud I am of my production team and of all the people that are willing to share their reflections on my life in the film. #DavidHolmesTheBoyWhoLived #Skytv #HBOMax #NowI’mFamousOhShit #Documentary #spinalcordinjury #LifeIsNotARehearsal #Gratitude #Humility

David Holmes - 3.9K Likes - This summer I finished off a property development (making sure it could accommodate for a disabled homeowner) one road away from my house and then I stayed at home storing up vital energy in preparation for the second half of the year for when my documentary.

David Holmes - 2.8K Likes - So yesterday I had the honour of visiting legend Matt Hampson OBE, founder of the Get Busy Living Centre.

David Holmes - 2.6K Likes - So Sunday night me and my partner went and stayed at the Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire.

I don’t normally get nervous around things like this but to be included in such a prestigious lineup of extremely talented people is truly an honour.

The talk will reflect on my very unique journey from stuntman to quadriplegic and how it changed the way I live in and view the world.

I was there in the audience in London 2012 as they made history achieving team bronze as well as Max getting one of his many individual medals he’s had over his illustrious carer. Good luck today, mate to you and all of team GB.

Caption : I had the upmost pleasure of attending the Murcia film festival at the weekend.

David Holmes - 1.5K Likes - So my special project was actually visiting the campus of Sky TV in Osterley.Ā

David Holmes - 1.3K Likes - I had the pleasure of meeting these young wonderful human beings at the Young Carers Charity in Benfleet.
