I enjoyed spending the morning with @theviewabc to discuss education and the future of our country, and to reflect on the legacy of my friend and mentor, Gen. Colin Powell.
Education is the great equalizer. Let us do the important work of making a quality education available to every child in this country. The choice to attend a good school should not just be a luxury for the privileged few, but a right for all. Thank you to @senatortimscott @repmoolenaar and the School Choice Caucus for hosting this important discussion.
“Today our nation mourns the passing of a truly great man. Colin Powell spent the entirety of his life in service to his country. He was a trusted colleague and a dear friend through some very challenging times. His devotion to our nation was not limited to the many great things he did while in uniform or during his time spent in Washington. Colin and his wife, Alma, were especially dedicated to and proud of the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at the City College of New York—a place very near and dear to his heart. Much of his legacy will live on in the countless number of young lives he touched. My heart and prayers go out to Alma, his children, and his grandchildren. May God bless you and keep you. Rest in peace, my dear friend.”
Today marks the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th attacks. While the world was forever changed that day, it reminded us of the strength and resilience that define us as a nation. May we forever remember and honor the lives lost and the heroes who stood tall in the face of unimaginable tragedy, and hold onto the values that unite us.
Today on Juneteenth we celebrate something we hold in common, which is our belief that all men and women are created equal. Our founding documents said that, a radical idea at the time, and it would be many years before we would begin to deliver on that promise. May we come together today as Americans in celebration of our nation’s progress.
Wishing everyone a happy holiday season filled with joy and laughter. Merry Christmas and happy new year!
Enjoyed celebrating African American Heritage over the weekend with Randy Winn and Bob Kendrick. Thank you @sfgiants for the spirited event.

Congratulations to the winners of the @HooverInstitution’s 2024 Distinguished Undergraduate Essay Competition. It was a pleasure to celebrate these exceptional Stanford undergraduate students, who distinguished themselves through the strength of their writing on topics concerning the values and institutions of liberty and on how public policies impact human freedom.

Bigger than ourselves 🩷 Thank you to all who supported the PlayForHer initiative this year! Over $150,000 was raised for Dr. Allison Kurian’s Breast Cancer Research at Stanford. This year’s Stanford Intercollegiate was also in honor of two-time survivor, @devilmissy and her sister, Heather Farr. Your story will impact the next generations and help us beat this together 💕

The Hoover Institution’s Education Futures Council (EFC) has released “Ours to Solve, Once – and For All,” a new report that calls dramatic action in the US K-12 system a matter of public emergency for the health and security of American democracy, as well as the nation’s future prosperity. The Council, co-chaired by Hoover Institution director @CondoleezzaRice, proposes a comprehensive new operating system for American public education – one that flips US K-12 education from top-down to the bottom-up, organizes for student-centered results, and provides a high-quality education for all students, especially those from disadvantaged populations.
