When I go to an appointment or a meeting like this one, video relay interpreter (VRI) is not always the best solution for Deaf people for several reasons: 1) It does not see everything (like my sister is off the screen). 2) When wifi disconnects, VRI disconnects or freezes. 3) The set up is awkward. You can see that the iPad is in some standing plastic bin. My preference is to have a live interpreter, in the same room as us.
Better late than never. And…thank goodness for grandparents’ existence so we can do all the fun video challenges with them. 😂 This one is “Give me my money” challenge. At first my grandpa wasn’t igoing to do it, but he did it! 💰👏

Ever wondered how Deaf people whisper? 🤫 Just like hearing people, but in their own ways. You name it – covering our hands, signing under the table, inside a sweater (for real!) and… behind your back! Which one would you use? Comment below 👇
It’s been a minute since I posted. Another amazing trip this summer to Greece and France. The 🐈 🐈⬛ were my favorite part – stopping every moment to pet the cats. Can’t get enough gyros! Even tried their grilled octopus – that was interesting. My favorite was Naxos – more local and chill. Milos is awesome for cliff jumping, snorkeling, and boating. A second close favorite. Then we went to France – it was both a fun and work trip. I had the incredible honor of being invited as one of the young Deaf actors to present at a Deaf Film Festival called @festival_clindoeil . Wow, it was overwhelming and exciting for me to be around over 10,000 Deaf people from all over the world. All signing in their own sign language. Met Deaf children at their Deaf camp, too. Thank you to all people and fans I’ve bumped into on my travels. All of your amazing support and love. 🥰 Now, I’m ready to head back to school and start my second year of high school! Here I go…

Did you know that most millennials and Gen Z use subtitles when watching TV/film? Then…why are we not seeing more all-Deaf signing cast in TV shows and movies? It’s time to change that. Do you agree with me?
This might upset or anger some people, but listen up… Asking Deaf people to teach ONLY cuss words in sign language? Not cool. Sign language is a rich, full language – not just for swearing. Let’s learn meaningful signs instead. 🤝 And FYI, we Deaf people absolutely do cuss!
At a concert with loud music? Sign through the noise. Sick with a sore throat or lose your voice? Sign instead (and no germs spread!). Gossip without getting caught? Sign language lets you talk about anything, right in front of everyone. Why should you sign? Because sometimes, words are not enough. Start learning sign language with @lingvano TODAY! Drop any other convincing reasons why you should learn sign language below! 🤟
Learning sign language the right way is so important! Here’s a few things to keep in mind: 1) Please, please, please don’t learn from hearing people—no matter how fluent they are, Deaf people are the ones you should be learning from. They have the authentic cultural and linguistic knowledge that makes a big difference! 2) I get that TV/films can be inspiring, but it takes years of practice and real education to become truly proficient. Plus, some actors (looking at you, Kate Siegel 😒) are hearing, and it’s not quite the same. 3) Books? They’re great for learning grammar, but trying to copy signs from them can be super frustrating. Stick to learning from the community, and you’ll be on the right track! Start with @lingvano today. 🤟
