Here’s a few things to keep in mind: 1) Please, please, please don’t learn from hearing people—no matter how fluent they are, Deaf people are the ones you should be learning from. They have the authentic cultural and linguistic knowledge that makes a big difference! 2) I get that TV/films can be inspiring, but it takes years of practice and real education to become truly proficient. Plus, some actors (looking at you, Kate Siegel 😒) are hearing, and it’s not quite the same. 3) Books? They’re great for learning grammar, but trying to copy signs from them can be super frustrating.
