And every year on that day, for 111 years, they collectively withdrew their labour, giving themselves the day off, until it was finally made a public holiday. Grateful to celebrate freedom, my ancestors and being black with family, friends, beaches, boats, swizzles, sun, cricket, campsites , crown n anchor and a whole lotta love and laughter.
