“Conference With No Titles”—that’s how I’d describe the Reykjavík Global Forum: open rooms filled with voices that truly matter. Sharing space with presidents, a Nobel laureate, former First Ladies (see the first image: from left to right, Former First Lady of Canada, Sophie Trudeau; Former First Lady of Iceland, Eliza Reid; and our panel moderator Jackie Jones). The rooms were filled with founders and allies (second image), CEOs (or “SHE-EOs”), TV hosts, philanthropists, students, and young changemakers. And yet, titles were an afterthought, something I only realized later as I wrote this caption—because in that space, they were left at the door. Catch a great Day 1 highlights reel in the last slide, reposted from @reykjavikglobalforum. The real focus? Bold, impactful conversations on tackling online violence, balancing power, building alliances, empowering the next generation, and dismantling harmful cycles. These issues affect us all, titles aside. It’s a shared responsibility, and a reminder of our unity in finding solutions. More to come! Join the conversation and follow the work at reykjavikglobal.com. #PowerTogether #Reykjavik24 #WomenLeaders #RedefiningProgress
This week, I’m joining a dynamic panel at the Reykjavík Global Forum (@reykjavikglobalforum) in Iceland. Our session, Breaking the Bias: Women Leaders Redefining Progress & Perception, will tackle the unique challenges women face, the strategies making an impact, and reasons for optimism. This topic is close to my heart and one I’ve captured before in my weekly series, #ItsOfficialWithJanetMbugua. I’m looking forward to sharing some of these conversations on an international stage. Joining me on the panel: 🇮🇳 Anuradha Das Mathur, Partner, DGA Group 🇳🇬 Abosede George-Ogan, Founder, Women in Leadership Advancement Network 🎤 Moderator: 🇺🇸 Jackie Jones, Chief of Staff, Gender Equality Division, Gates Foundation #PowerTogether #Reykjavik24 #BreakingTheBias #WomenLeaders #RedefiningProgress #Grateful
A few glimmers and moments of inspiration from the past few weeks… and yes, I have a little request! 😊 1. It’s been ages since I had sugarcane! My period cravings led me to indulge in some along Kiambu Road. So yum! 2. Milestone moments—feeling grateful for growth, even in the form of ‘mapengo’❤️ 3. Some news! I’ve been nominated for Africa’s Most Elite MC of the Year (no pressure, right?). If you’d like to support, follow the link in my bio to cast your vote and check out @ccawardsafrica for more details. 4. Sending solidarity to activists everywhere, standing strong against the wave of misogyny. 🫶🏾 5. Trust the process – but self care as you do so ✨ #NovemberVibes #Gratitude #MilestoneMoments #PeriodCravings #WomenInLeadership #VoteForChange #Solidarity #Activism #AfricaMC #Empowerment #itsofficialwithjanetmbugua

“There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.” From election results that will reshape policies, to under-reported genocides and the troubling rise in gender-based violence, there’s so much to process… But I still believe there’s room to push for justice. Recently, in a powerful dialogue with the International Gender Champions, the Swedish Embassy, and World Vision, we explored the role of faith in the fight to end GBV. It wasn’t easy to sit through, as we continue to see a lack of conviction and accountability, especially from government and church leaders. But creating this space was essential. This moment also merged my faith and activism, and in this video, I reflect on that journey. I also amplify the voices on the frontlines of the fight against femicide. Thank you to the countless organizations keeping the conversation on ending femicide and human rights violations, at the forefront. #ItsOfficialWithJanetMbugua #FaithAndActivism #EndGBV #EndFemicideKE @usikimye_ Hotline: 0718 158400 National GBV Hotline: 1195
This crisis demands more than words—it demands bold action, real accountability, and urgent change. Every woman’s life lost is a brutal reminder that policies without action are empty promises. We need gender-focused policies that confront the harsh reality instead of sanitizing it. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” — Martin Luther King Jr. How many more voices will be silenced before we demand real protection and a society where no woman’s life is at risk for simply existing? Swipe to find resources and events amplifying this fight. Let’s continue the conversation below. #EndFemicideKE #ActNow #SafetyForAll Tickets for the launch of @simama_initiative are available at eventstur.com

Here’s a fact about me: when something weighs on my mind or spirit, I can get hyperactive just talking about it. And right now, that something is femicide. In this video, I’m unpacking the data, patterns, and norms surrounding it, and I’m feeling a mix of anger, sadness, fear, and frustration. One death should be enough to move us to action. Yet despite countless lives lost this year alone, where is the urgency from our courts? They acted swiftly when it came to impeaching a public official—so why don’t they show the same resolve here? Even as we focus on femicide in this video: Protestors have been killed—what’s the status of their cases? Back the cases of femicide; where is justice for the women killed this year alone? We can’t allow our country to become a crime scene. It’s time to demand justice. #JusticeForAll #EndFemicide #EndFemicideKE #EndGBV #SayHerName #HumanRights #ItsOfficialWithJanetMbugua #bts Follow Odipo Dev (odipodev.com), @usikimye_, @endfemicideke for more. Put your energy in to a good thing, not a good time. Or be clear when to know the difference. Or I’m getting too deep? 😃 Discuss! Inspired by the song: I Choose You by @bridgetblue and @bienaimesol On Sunday, we dive into a conversation about some of the deeply distressing events unfolding around us 🙏🏾 #ItsOfficialWithJanetMbugua #LyricsThatResonate #ChooseGoodThings #Feelings #Friday #WeekendVibes Edit: Guys I promise I’m a good driver 😃 I adjusted my seat shortly after this video to continue shooting. But thank you for the concerns 🙏🏾
Happy Sunday! Here’s some food for thought as you unwind: The World Bank says women reinvest 90% of their income back into their families, while men typically reinvest 30-40%. And according to McKinsey, if women were as active in the workforce as men, it could add up to $28 trillion to the global GDP by 2025. This shows just how powerful it can be to invest in women. On a personal note, I can say that having financial independence helped me bounce back from one of the biggest setbacks of my life, which I share briefly in this video. Let’s dive deeper into this conversation. #ItsOfficialWithJanetMbugua #JanetsThoughts #WomenEconomicPower #Finances Thank you to @cekenduati_ for her contributions here and for the incredible women I shared space with on this day.
