Psychologically, life can be unexpectedly challenging when you’re overly good-looking. Relationships are important. One of the top markers for good mental health, (and in fact as per some studies a predictor of longevity in humans). So can we all please stop pretending it doesn’t hurt when someone we cared about walks out of our lives? Can we all stop denying our emotions? It’s not healthy, it’s not brave, and it doesn’t make you look important. Also, NOBODY cares! With the social media constantly asking us to choose ‘self preservation’ over toxic relationships, let’s not forget that most relationships are not really all black or all white. Let’s not be too quick to label people as ‘toxic’ or ‘narcissistics’. Most of us are only learning, struggling, falling, hurting…but eventually growing as humans. So not black, not white, but grey. If it’s a shade of grey that works for you, (for this I always say, look at their internet and effort – not empty words), then maybe that relationship is worth a try. Maybe even a few tries. Before you walk away, before you completely give up on someone…TRY for a few times. Signs they feel a powerful attraction towards you. ▫️ 1. This one’s NEVER failed me… a beautiful subconscious behaviour, one that very few people know about (& therefore, less likely to hide). They look at you immediately when a funny situation happens & everyone’s laughing. They may try making eye contact or just see if you’re laughing too. Adorable🥰 ▫️2. They notice everything about you, remember every conversation, every detail. (Esp the personal details). Exceptions: Now of course, some people are extremely observant, intelligent or just have great memory. Or, situations when it’s their literally their job (for ex, psychiatrists). However, if its a frequent occurrence, chances are that you’re often on their mind& they’re crushing hard! ▫️3. They wanna talk about themselves with you. Sometimes they’re trying to impress, but if the attraction is serious, you’ll find them talking a lot about deeper aspects of their lives. Why? They want to be close to you emotionally. This rule too, comes with exceptions though. For instance, they may be opening up simply because you’re a good listener, they are feeling talkative, or they’re just craving deeper friendships. Sometimes people show off… not because they’re attracted, but because of a deep psychological need to be appreciated (look at their relationship with parents for this). ▫️4. They want to know about you. Listening intently, asking questions. One big tell tale sign is when the questions pop out of nowhere… like they’ve been wanting to know this about you for a while! Again, of course, exceptions… Example: Some people just love learning about others, or maybe you’re an interesting person! ▫️5. This one again has NEVER failed me (& unfortunately…also given away my own feelings to the crushes that were smart enough to read me well!). Their eye contact is deep. Intense. Psychologically, when someone repeatedly ignores you, it can often be a subtle form of emotional abuse or a power play. It may be their way of subconsciously saying you have to ‘earn’ their attention—otherwise, you’re irrelevant to them. 💡Psychological Insight: ▫️The “Chase” Dynamic: According to psychological studies, people are often drawn to those who seem less available, creating a “chase” dynamic that can be addictive. But in healthy relationships, both people should be equally invested. ▫️Fear of Rejection: When you’re constantly ignored, your brain can activate feelings of rejection, which can trigger stress and affect your self-esteem over time. It’s important to recognize when this pattern is affecting your mental health. Of course, it’s important to remember that people can get busy, distracted, or forgetful. Don’t hold it against them if it happens once in a while. However, if you notice it becoming a pattern—constantly waiting for a reply or for them to initiate contact—it’s time to speak up. Address the issue and see if things improve. But if the behavior continues, and you’re always the one chasing their attention, it’s a red flag. Such a dynamic isn’t healthy for your mental well-being, and it’s clear that this person isn’t offering the companionship or respect you deserve. True relationships are built on mutual care and connection, not on constantly seeking validation. As someone who has personally struggled with debilitating anxiety for as long as I could remember, this is one trick that’s always helped me. Often used by psychologists to teach their patients how to tune into the moment, (instead of getting all carried away with worries), this handy little hack can prevent meltdowns and panic attacks… esp if you delve into it right when you notice your anxiety taking over (at the early stages). Note: Once I have calmed down a little using this 3-3-3 trick for anxiety, I try to stay as quiet as possible, and still leave the situation as soon as I can. To continue engaging with something or someone that’s triggering me could still get overwhelming for my brain. Also, remember, this is not a solution for your anxiety. It’s just a way prevent the situation from getting worse.
