The light of our lives said goodbye to us yesterday, and I don’t think I can put into words how I feel right now, but let me tell you a little bit about Preeti masi because I know how much everyone here loved her. 61 years ago, a doctor saw her as a baby and told my nana and nani that she wouldn’t survive beyond 5 years. And boy, did she prove him wrong. While she was my masi, she was more like my mother who took care of my every need when I was born, then more of a sibling who studied, played and fought with me every single day growing up, and slowly with time, she became more like a child and the one who needed taking care of. Not everyone understood her, and even though she was intelligent enough to know she wasn’t entirely like us, that never stopped her from being herself. And that’s my biggest takeaway from Preeti masi. To forever be your resilient, confident, opinionated (and always short tempered😅) self. She was obsessed with Bollywood, she had to go swimming every single day, she loved animals, absolutely adored kids, food was her first love, she’d often wear 5-6 layers of clothes just so she’d have enough options if we happened to go on an impromptu trip (last picture for reference🤣) and she used to spend her days knitting, writing, reading or colouring in her books. Our home has been buzzing with so many hilarious stories about Preeti masi since yesterday and they’re the only thing keeping us going right now. All I am grateful for is that God chose us and found us good enough to be the people responsible to give her a good, happy life. And I hope we lived up to that. For everyone that loved her and checked in on her, thank you 🙏🏻 That extra chromosome became one of the biggest blessings of our life, and one of the reasons I am the person I am today. We love you so much Preetu, and we wish you are happy up there, eating all the Chinese food and burgers to your heart’s content 🥰
