She Gives is a movement that seeks to highlight women’s giving in Australia and to celebrate, share and inspire further philanthropic endeavours. The Governor-General participated in a roundtable discussion at Government House in Canberra with some of Australia’s women leaders in philanthropy and giving to launch the research phase of the She Gives campaign. It seeks to expand knowledge on women’s giving by facilitating conversations to deepen understanding and explore ways to encourage growth. The discussions hosted by She Gives CEO Melissa Smith and Padma Raman PSM of the Office for Women featured Carrie Bickmore OAM of Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer, CEO of Fairground and chair of Barlow Impact Group Deborah Barlow, Executive General Manager of Inclusion and Social Policy at the AFL Tanya Hosch and adviser of the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation Sarah O’Brien (image 2). The Governor-General said: “This is a historic gathering at Government House to both celebrate and thank the generosity of Australian women, and to launch the She Gives research phase to ambitiously grow women’s giving across the country. “Leveraging generosity isn’t simply about instinct, it is about rigorous research and an accumulation of evidence, which is why our meeting today is so important. “Today we begin to uncover what we don’t know, identify what we need to understand, and ask the questions that need answering. “This is care in its hardest form – coming face-to-face with truth and responding with honesty and integrity.” Images: 1.
