Posting in honor of the wicked movie! A sincere story… I auditioned for it as a dancer many times right of college, but never got kept. Did a lot of gigs, got my singing and acting chops up. Then went in about 20 times for Elphaba in a span of 10 years, casting coaching sessions included. I remember leaving notes for my apartment neighbors letting them know, “I’ll be warming up for Wicked auditions again. Defying gravity at 10am. Here’s a bottle of wine, sorry thanks.” And then I’d go in and sing the heck out of it! And never got a callback past that. Finally, my agent called with different news. He said, “So, they’re not gonna call you in for this anymore. You just don’t have the voice they need for an Elphaba. So it’s not ever going to happen.” I replied, “Good. Because I’m tired of warming up for that 11am audition! I’m ready to make space for something else.” And then If/Then with Idina followed by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend happened months and months later. What’s meant to be yours is meant to be yours. Trust your instincts close your eyes and leap! Wicked has been such a huge part of my career even though I’ve never performed in it. It taught me hard work still pays off. Your gift is uniquely yours and it’s your job to show it to all who’ll listen and then share it again and again. Then again. It’s changed so many of my friends’ lives and I’ve seen it so many times with all of them in it, cheering them on. It makes me cry and it takes my breath away every time. I’m so proud to be a part of the story too and I can’t wait for the movie!… and not warm up and sing along to it either! #wicked #wickedmovie #gabrielleruiz #careercoach

Happy National Breastfeeding Awareness Month not to me but to my TRIBE. I’ll explain… This past July, Vivienne went to LA with me while I shot a movie. So that I could breastfeed her instead of pump. So that we could continue our bonding. All of this was not my idea. All of this happened because @sofialand said, “just bring her! Stay with us and I’ll snuggle with her then I’ll take to her to set.” @nrpaytonla said, “borrow our pak n play.” @seaniesugrue said, “never feel you have to explain why you need to leave set and nurse her… just go and don’t even think about it.” We then got covid day before our PA return and had to extend our LA trip and fly straight to Vegas for my next gig. All this happened because @ppisanchyn said, “don’t cancel Vegas. You really want to go to Vegas. Youre a working mom. Everyone will help you, I know it. I’ll keep taking care of Mercedes. Don’t worry about her. We’ll be okay.” @pallavisastry and @therealharistyles said, “stay at our guest house as long as you need. Just text us and we’ll bring you all food.” Derek and @rthabiger at @coolwatersprods said, “we’ll make Star Trek Las Vegas happen. She will not be a problem. We can’t wait to meet her. ” @the_real_fab_mrs._p said, “we’ll take her then bring her to you to nurse her.” @creationent reps said “we want to meet her! I hear she’s at your booth!” My second go at breastfeeding has been completely different. We are more public than ever because Covid was so new with Merc. We are wiser about juggling more schedules. And I’m asking for more help. And the tribe is showing up. So to all my mamas out there, where ever you are in you BF journey: look around and ask for help.
