Hey everyone, So happy to announce that my new album ‘Nostalgia’ will be out on 27th September on @gondwanarecords . You can already listen to its first track, “It Comes in Waves”. The album was recorded live with String Ensemble at the Ghosts album launch in Studio 1 of Polish Radio, Warsaw and in concert at the Roundhouse, London on October 6 & 26 2023. I am extremely excited because this release is marking a new chapter in my artistic career as I decided to manifest it not only through music but also through my photographs and texts which are a result of the long term fascination with the space of Polish Radio in Warsaw, which has been serving me for many years as a safe haven for my recordings, as well as a motivation to engage in a dialogue with my own Eastern European identity. The entire operation of creating this body of work was an absolute joy – starting from recording it, mixing, remixing and mastering a couple of months later, but also to visit the space afterwards and convey its essence through the lens of the analogue camera and my own eyes, expanding a usual means of expression with new tools and possibilities. The film rolls were meticulously developed and scanned at the Documentary and Film Studio in Warsaw, curated, orchestrated into a form of a booklet with Veil Projects & @nicola.cholewa and carefully printed. On every page you will find my texts and ruminations about all the tracks, following each step of the creative process, dissecting it, explaining its origins and enmeshed trajectory. My new ‘Nostalgia’ is coming out in 2 weeks… and I am so looking forward to it! Recorded live with a string Ensemble in Studio 1 of Polish Radio in Warsaw and in the Roundhouse in London, capturing vulnerable and unpredictable nature of the live performances, fragile moment of collaboration and listening. A living creature, untamed, fluctuating shape formed of well planned coincidences and unplanned clashes and trembles. After many months I have been retuning to this music again, working on the film edit for ICA show in London and it is such a weird journey. Beautifully off-kilter, brave but soft, edgy but melting. It Comes in Waves I composed this giddy track in spring 2023 with the aim to entertain myself on stage. This seemingly unassuming piece of music became my personal anthem of freedom, challenging and shaping me as a performer and human being. There is a certain amount of courage and the renunciation of limits needed in order to get into the core of this track. Its first chunk, vicious passages shamelessly occupying the entire space of the keyboard, reminds me of putting your head into a strong stream of cold water whose pressure and force oddly warms up the blood in your veins. The boost of energy is amplified with each next wave, making it impossible to go back, to check if something hasn’t been forgotten due to the speed of the current. Impossible to predict when it comes to time, direction and size, waves hit from all sides without a moment of notice. Feelings and real sensations are becoming one entity difficult to separate or distinguish from each other. In order to survive you need to accept them and follow the flow. Wave, after wave.
