Iman Meskini Instagram – Yesterday, I had a portrait interview with the feminist magazine FETT, where the journalist and I shared a meaningful and important conversation about a range of issues. I can’t wait for you to read it this spring 🌷
One of the key topics we discussed was feminism and what it means to me.
I’ve often experienced the perception that being a Muslim woman who wears the hijab is somehow contradicting with calling myself a feminist—and I strongly reject that idea.🧕🏼
In many ways, I am a feminist because of these choices, not in spite of them. Choosing to wear a religious headscarf is a conscious and deliberate decision I make as an adult woman every single day. Defining the hijab as liberating and a symbol of pride and strength is, in itself, a feminist act. My fight for ALL women to have the freedom to dress as they choose and to have full autonomy over their bodies is feminism.✊🏽
At its core, feminism for me is about equality of value. Equality isn’t about women becoming like men. We shouldn’t have to wear a gray suit to be taken seriously—our voices, actions, and choices should speak louder than the clothes we wear. 👩🏽💼👨🏽💼
Feminism means that women should be valued equally to men, whether in the professions we pursue or the roles we embrace. Whether you aspire to be a top executive or a stay-at-home mom, both should hold equal value. Women shouldn’t have to compromise who we are or our femininity to adapt to a male-dominated system in order to achieve equality. Instead, the system must evolve to embrace women and men equally.👩🏽🍼👩🏽💼
True feminism doesn’t ask women to conform—it demands that the world evolve to embrace us as we are. 🌏
So, what does feminism mean to YOU? I’d love to hear your thoughts 💭👇🏽 | Posted on 19/Dec/2024 16:24:55
