Lisa Ray Instagram – Rounding out 2024 by sharing two of my profound loves: writing and travel.
After years of literally living out of airport lounges, I had become complacent and perhaps a bit jaded about visiting new regions- until Zanzibar. The Spice island is redolent of mystery and history – twin loves of mine- and it’s a relatively under-the-radar destination. So this last March break we packed up the children (not IN the suitcases of course) and I enjoyed our experience @theresidencezanzibar so much I wrote about it for @globalspaindia
My advise: GO. Before Zanzi goes the way of Goa.
Here’s an excerpt:
‘Mama- we are walking on water’ my girls trilled during low tide, when their little footprints filled with water on our daily beach stroll back from the kid’s club to the villa. In the late morning, the ocean would roll its massive expanse so far back, we could have walked out to the reef line, but chose instead to play in the sand.
If you gravitate- like I do- to places that represent a crossroads of cultures and regions of environmental integrity- Zanzi is for you.
The last night at the resort happened to be our wedding anniversary. An idyllic beachside dinner was planned, a table for two set up in a ring of rose petals. My daughters were well fed at the buffet, and with our nanny (who was graciously accommodated at the resort, a big plus for family travellers) when we sat down with our first glass of bubbly to enjoy our adult time. Just before the first course was set down, giggles floated from behind the swings. Jambo, jambo- hakuna matata sang out my girls in chorus. What would you do?
Hakuna Matata. No worries! My husband and I repeated to each other with knowing grins while two more places were set for Sufi and Soleil to celebrate at this beautiful table by the sea.
