honeymoon, part one though we’ve only been married for a few months, we’ve been together for nearly nine years, and many of our best memories, including our engagement, are tied to our travels across Japan. we began this trip in Kyoto, a place we’ve visited together five times, and we tried to marry nostalgia to novelty, revisiting old favorites and discovering new ones we began by venturing 90 minutes outside of Kyoto to Miyamasou, invited by our friend, Taka. it was an extraordinary experience. then we visited Molly’s favorite restaurant, Hatakaku, where we had botan nabe and ate candied fish. the next day we were lucky to come back to noma pop up in kyoto for the second time. our friend Taka joined us, along with @kyotosakamoto, whose kappo restaurant in Kyoto I have been visiting for over a decade. It was an honor to eat WITH him for a change 🤣. thank you to @reneredzepinoma and the entire @nomacph team for always making us feel like family we wandered the streets of Gion, visited my old favorite jazz bar, and bought stationery and other snacks and trinkets. it was 60 perfect glorious hours. We also napped and kissed a lot we are so incredibly grateful to our friends in Japan and our friends and family back in America for allowing us this time away from work so we can spend time staring deeply into each others eyes for hours on end more soon

honeymoon diaries part 2 📗 the second part of our honeymoon was a return to the place we got engaged, Hokkaido. and more specifically Niseko. and ever more specifically @zaborin.ryokan we spent 3 nights here, staring at birds, watching the snow fall, and soaking in hot springs. we literally only left our room to eat incredible kaiseki meals prepared on site (we also went to 7/11 once to get a bunch of candy) 5 years after we got engaged here, it was really lovely to be back. this was the “talk about our relationship while staring into each others half open eyes for 72 hours” portion of the honeymoon. spoiler alert, it was our favorite!
