We did the thing we always do every first day of a new year. It began when I first came to LA, a newlywed. We brought aspiration and prayer to the ocean shore, we stared at the rim of the world. Young, hopeful, and soon shook by life, the ocean could hold what was too big to carry. Then, we brought a baby with chestnut eyes and loopy black curls. Zoela. What joy! She was carried on shoulders, she soon ran after kites in the sky. Then, life changed. And it was the two of us alone. She and I. At sunset, we pitched stones into the horizon. We let the wind carry our tears. Years like that. Then years in between. Now, we bring Robert to the continental edge for the first sunset of a new year. We play music on the bike path and then offer a trio of prayers at low tide. The water knows. Some places are touchstones. They are solace and hope, joy and peace. Time as sand underneath our feet. Water and salt on our skin. ✨ Today offered laughter, hugs and a promise to take care of each other as we venture apart and come together again. LOVE. ❤️

My dear, beautiful California. ❤️ Praying for my city and for all the human and animal lives impacted by these fires. Grateful to be safe and intact. Grateful for all the lives saved by our first responders and the generous, trained citizens who have stepped forward to be of service where needed. Yet, as a city and as a state, we are understandably stunned by this sudden and vast devastation. So we thank you for your open-hearted concern. We will have much healing to do. For now, we are holding prayer and locking arms. We ask that you hold the Golden State in loving, healing prayer. ✨✨✨

Another goodbye. 🥰 If you’ve been following here for a minute, you know that my beautiful daughter is moving into the world. She is at the beginning of her flight, growing, learning, developing into more of her exquisite self. ❤️ When I said goodbye, for a second time, I was awash in so many emotions. (More on that later.) But my primary focus was on her joy, her strength, her ability to brave hard things, and her rock-solid intuition. GRAZIAMO a tutti che mi hanno fatto crescere lei. ❤️ Now, I turn inward. Change requires it. Returning to that quiet voice within that has its own wisdom to reveal. Vediamo che cosa succederà. ✨✨
