Vinodhini Vaidynathan Instagram - I was roped in to play the role of Haasini’s mom in Thanga Magal on Vijay TV initially as a cameo for around 40 episodes. The TRP and relatability of the character made the production extend the role to over 140 episodes. Vinodhini Vaidynathan Instagram - Lunch with dad after a long time. Have been working in May and June on a few films, a TV serial, dubbing for them, a TV show I’m part writing and hosting and that’s airing soon, attended a few success meets, a few movie poojas and a few wrap parties, fed 25 animals every day, got two more street dogs caught and spayed, lost two cats, adopted two more, was in ICU for a few days last week, travelled to Allepey and Bangalore a couple of times, unlocked new losses on the stock market, found and lost a tenant for my flat, got ear infection and treated it, got a few pedicures and massages and hair treatments, organised a child’s college fees, got a cat adopted, tried a few dog adoptions and failed. Dad says I’m lazy. We have agreed to disagree.

Vinodhini Vaidynathan Instagram - Pigeon rescue today from Eldam’s road. My car battery died and I was trying to get road side assistance when I noticed this fallen nest and one small bird fallen out of it. A wayfarer lady helped me pick it up and we found another baby bird inside the nest. Immediately pinged Velu at @blue_cross_rescues and told him I’m bringing these to be raised there till they’re ready to be released into the air. Especially since we waited for a month mother bird to come and nothing came. The babies had clearly been removed from their original location along with the nest and thrown on the road. Velu agreed at once for me to bring them there. Put them in a paper bag and took them. They are now with Ms Leela from the aviary section. I write this to talk mostly about Velu, who I first met at a puppies yoga camp. He had brought a lot of puppies to be adopted. We became friends instantly. Ever since then, he’s been a bedrock of stability and reassurance in my life. Recently, there have been a lot of criticism against Blue Cross in the media and among animal activists. Amidst all that, Velu has stayed the course with so much calm and grace. We who have been visiting Blue Cross regularly know the challenges faced by them, how people mistake it for a bottomless funded government body when in actuality it is an NGO like any other, how people think they can dump perfectly healthy stray dogs or cats there and not bother about their life cycle, how people think it’s ok for them to separate perfectly healthy puppies from their mothers and natural surroundings and dump them at Blue cross. Every place has a natural limit and capacity at which they can operate. BCI’s back has been broken for years by irresponsible people at all levels and they are cleaning up the damage slowly but surely and starting to work within their capacity now. It is the need of the hour for every one of us animal welfare public, activists and the general public to stand with the organisation and ensure that the years of work of people like Velu do not go in vain. Thank you for the friendship, Velu. It is an honour.

She has become a wonderful part of their loving family. They’ve even trained her to walk on a leash. Also, the road in my locality where she first lived has been dug up for metro work. And so much has changed for her original owners who are/were street vendors on that same road. They’ve lost their livelihood and we’re trying to get them back on their feet. The first pic was taken on Diwali 2021 I think. Chippi lives in my heart and not a day goes by when we don’t look at her videos sent by her current family and shed happy tears. Dad also loves her a lot, maybe even more than I do. Coming to see you soon again, dearest Chippi girl! Be happy! (I won’t say where are is, since the current boarders don’t want to be publicised).

We’ve been shooting in this Tamil area for a few days and this is just a small insight into how our days were when we were not in the shot. And every single dog in the area was well fed and some were even neutered. Big hearts, big people.

They’ve taught her to walk on a leash, she’s getting nail clips and baths regularly, she’s become a proper house dog with them. Unfortunately, the family lost their dad in a heart attack a month back but they’re bouncing back. Chippi loved her new “appa” (she technically never had one, living in the streets), she was devastated when he passed. But she’s also bounced back and is finally finding peace in a home environment. Chippi’s original street care takers Bhai amma and sister in our locality have not fared so well. Bhai amma has had a stroke and lost movement in her arm and leg. They are no longer able to run the roadside food stall ever since January, also because of the housing board construction and road blockage and losing the food stall itself to the corporation. I’m trying to raise funds for them privately and helping them get back on their feet. I had given bhai amma the job of preparing chicken rice for my own streeties last two months but now that she’s hospitalised, she can’t do anything at all. Me and my dad are trying to find out if we can get something for the three of them (Bhai amma, her sister and husband) something that will serve them till the end of their lives, like a retainership. Let’s see. In the meantime, Chippi got her first photoshoot done by her foster family. She’s special to them and they have been her lifeline. Just look at her coat and eyes and her entire persona. A long way from May 2021 when she came to our gate, full of skin issues and looking for food. Some of her old pics are on my highlights under “Animal Work”. Chippi is a success story and deserves every bit of the good luck that’s come her way.

My car battery died and I was trying to get road side assistance when I noticed this fallen nest and one small bird fallen out of it. A wayfarer lady helped me pick it up and we found another baby bird inside the nest. Immediately pinged Velu at @blue_cross_rescues and told him I’m bringing these to be raised there till they’re ready to be released into the air. Especially since we waited for a month mother bird to come and nothing came. The babies had clearly been removed from their original location along with the nest and thrown on the road. Velu agreed at once for me to bring them there. Put them in a paper bag and took them. They are now with Ms Leela from the aviary section. I write this to talk mostly about Velu, who I first met at a puppies yoga camp. He had brought a lot of puppies to be adopted. We became friends instantly. Ever since then, he’s been a bedrock of stability and reassurance in my life. Recently, there have been a lot of criticism against Blue Cross in the media and among animal activists. Amidst all that, Velu has stayed the course with so much calm and grace. We who have been visiting Blue Cross regularly know the challenges faced by them, how people mistake it for a bottomless funded government body when in actuality it is an NGO like any other, how people think they can dump perfectly healthy stray dogs or cats there and not bother about their life cycle, how people think it’s ok for them to separate perfectly healthy puppies from their mothers and natural surroundings and dump them at Blue cross. Every place has a natural limit and capacity at which they can operate. BCI’s back has been broken for years by irresponsible people at all levels and they are cleaning up the damage slowly but surely and starting to work within their capacity now. It is the need of the hour for every one of us animal welfare public, activists and the general public to stand with the organisation and ensure that the years of work of people like Velu do not go in vain. Thank you for the friendship, Velu. It is an honour.

And so much has changed for her original owners who are/were street vendors on that same road. They’ve lost their livelihood and we’re trying to get them back on their feet. The first pic was taken on Diwali 2021 I think. Chippi lives in my heart and not a day goes by when we don’t look at her videos sent by her current family and shed happy tears. Dad also loves her a lot, maybe even more than I do. Coming to see you soon again, dearest Chippi girl! Be happy! (I won’t say where are is, since the current boarders don’t want to be publicised).
