So excited to be part of Kamala’s campaign! We share the same values.
I was just so surprised to find myself in the enormous City Arts & Lectures auditorium with Matty Matteson on stage. He really lifted my spirits in a way that surprised me. His love of cooking, family and love of all of us is what we need right now! Love his organic farm too! @bluegoosefarm @cityartssf @mattymatheson
Looking for the silver lining of this pandemic! I think it has to do with this tromboncini squash that Fritz Haeg grew at his art commune called Salmon Creek Farm ! It is a Sicilian variety that I do not know how to prepare. Any suggestions? Maybe it is just a necklace to remind me about the worlds amazing biodiversity !
Just north of Santa Barbara in the hills of Santa Ynez Valley I found this oasis of regenerative organic farming, food and wonderful generosity of spirit! I felt like I was in a beautiful world of the past.
This is me after a day in LA ! Thank goodness for my friend Christina Kim who owns Dosa. She invited me for a beautiful Korean dinner in her studio. After dinner I threw myself down on her huge patchwork pillow: I think I need one at home!
Loved eating in a restaurant that not only cares about organic local food, but that deeply cares for and respects their staff. I will be back to visit THERE in Telluride Colorado every time I go to the Telluride Film Festival! @there.telluride
It was amazing to be present at the meeting of King Charles and Carlo Petrini of Slow Food International. I know we have shared values: we believe in feeding children local, organic, regenerative food in schools. I call this School Supported Agriculture. Like Community Supported Agriculture, the farmer is first and paid directly from the school.
I went to my dear friend Suzanne Goin’s restaurant AOC last night. (Thank you Michael for inviting me) It felt really so safe in the beautiful 1930’s garden. Radishes , butter, thin grilled toasts and a glass of rosé came immediately to the table! She serves my kind of simple and delicious food! Suzanne is an amazing optimistic person and so lucky to have started a catering company that has the space to continue at this difficult time. Small restaurants are closing everyday. We are praying for government help NOW!
This photo was taken about ten years at the FDR Memorial in DC. When I thought about today, it was the only photo that expressed my hopes: we could fall in love with nature again through food! That is how it happened to me!
The motor on my spit broke and we had to turn the turkey by hand for over two hours! I am sure before the motors, it was the way it was done. That accounts for the irregular browning. But it was a delicious heritage breed from Frank Reese in Kansas! Thank you Patrick Martins for introducing us.
Michael Hebb invited me to participate in The Endless Table, where I discuss the loss and legacy of my dearest friend Lulu Peyraud, and the recipes that will always remind me of her. The event takes place next Monday, November 23rd at 3pm. You can register to watch here https://collective.round.glass/the-endless-table-
I have never felt so welcome by the entire staff of a restaurant! It felt like a big family where everyone’s job is valuable. This is the regenerative spirit of love we need in all restaurants from the farmer to the dishwasher to the wonderful dining room staff that greeted me with a bottle of Tempier Bandol rosé! @chefmikeanthony @gramercytavern
I love shaved vegetable salads! Chez Panisse made this one yesterday with purple turnips, fennel, carrots and rocket. Using a mandolin , you can change the shape of vegetables every day of the week all winter long. Apples and persimmons are great in there too.
I know it seems unlikely to have tasty strawberries at this time of year but I have learned over the years it can happen in Southern California .Yesterday on my way home from LA, I went to FAIRVIEW GARDENS FARM near UCSB in Goleta . I haven’t been to their farm stand in such a long time.So happy it exists and is thriving .And I hear my dear friends at the Chinos farm near Rancho Santa Fe are busier than they have ever been!
On today’s episode of Wiser Than Me, Julia welcomes legendary chef, author, and farm-to-table pioneer @alicelouisewaters. They discuss Alice’s incredible career at her groundbreaking restaurant Chez Panisse and turning 80. Together, they explore the philosophy of age, food, and beauty. Julia also asks Alice about the meaning she finds in moments of pause, and later talks with her 90-year-old mom, Judith, about the victory garden she grew up with during World War II.
I am proud to support the @jacquespepinfoundation membership launch. For many chefs, Jacques is a mentor who is generous beyond compare. His foundation supports free culinary and life skills training to individuals in desperate need.
Every morning I drink tea from one of these beautiful @HeathCeramics bowls. My friend and artist Christina Kim introduced me to this innovative company almost 15 years ago and we collaborated on a special Chez Panisse line. I just love the colors, they always go with the food!
For every dish that is purchased from that line, a portion of the proceeds goes to the @edibleschoolyard . This #GivingTuesday, we are so grateful for their partnership.
I’m so excited about @edibleschoolyard ‘s Thanksgiving partnership with @cooksventure ’s heirloom chickens. For every chicken you buy from them this week they will be donating one to ESYP!
I always was so obsessed about organic that I forgot about breed. That is where taste is:
the right breed raised in a free range organic regenerative way. Thank you Cooks Venture!
Alice is very into spring. She wrote ‘Celebrating Spring’ on our menu because it’s the last moment of peas, favas, morels, asparagus and she wants to express how fleeting and special such things are. Last night, she was thanking our cooks for honoring the season so well and serving our guests delightful, wholesome meals. It’s indeed a special time here at LULU.
We look forward to welcoming you in for an evening spring supper and a nourishing meal in our beautiful courtyard. These longer days are a true blessing, as we get to dine together – al fresco under the setting sun.

I am thinking of my friend Wes Jackson and his Land Institute in Salina Kansas. One time I was on his board many years ago! Everything he has been trying to do is about the future: feeding ourselves and addressing climate change. This morning my daughter @fannysinger is making Kernza pancakes with a flour made from his prairie plants.
A personal invitation from Maggie, Bryant, and Alice to be a part of an important conversation around the intersections of food, climate, and community—September 19th 🌱 Award-winning chefs and activists Bryant Terry @bryantterry and Alice Waters @alicelouisewaters will be joined by Maggie Baird @maggiembaird, founder of @supportandfeed, whose mission is to combat climate change and food insecurity by championing plant-based eating for a healthier planet. Before the conversation, savor a thoughtfully curated, plant-based menu designed by Bryant and Alice at LULU @lulurestaurantla 🍽️ then meet them at the Billy Wilder Theater. 🕕 Plan ahead! Dine before 6 pm to make it to the 7:30 pm conversation. Free tickets to the talk are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and must be picked up at the box-office at 6:30 pm. This program is co-presented with @supportandfeed @hammer_museum and @lulurestaurantla 🤍 For more details, click the link in our bio. #plantbaseddiet #foodactivism #climateaction #foodforthought Video edited by @marcha_madness
