…well, I am so glad he followed up with this interview because after the game the other night he brushed aside this huge achievement of being the first African-American coach in the national championship game. That is a giant thing and in 2025 it makes no sense that he would be just now the first ever. 😩Here he rightly and proudly acknowledges his multicultural ethnicity and admits that this is a positive thing for the sport. There’s nothing wrong with that and it does not take away from the efforts of the entire team. But to not acknowledge it is to ignore the many men of color who were passed over for these jobs for DECADES due to skin color!! My father-in-law was one of the first black assistant coaches in college football AND in the NFL. This man does not get a job like this if it wasn’t for someone like Willie Peete and so many others (who couldn’t stay at Hotels with the rest of the coaches and endured relentless racism ) -Especially during a time when people are vilifying DEI and trying to make it into a slur 😡—we need to stand up and acknowledge the historical inequities in coaching in football coaching staffs for years.
