Ira Khan Instagram – I’m a couple of generations removed from when India got independence. For a majority of my life… it’s just been a school holiday.
I never really stopped to consider what we’re celebrating. I know – India’s independence. But that’s the only India I’ve known so I don’t really understand.
So today I decided that I will actively think about it.
What are nations? What are borders? What is the difference between being ruled by someone who was born 1000s of miles away versus someone who was born 100s of miles away? Just and fair leadership would be just and fair leadership regardless, no? What did it do ‘to’ us? What was unjust about it? What were people fighting for? What does/did independence give us?
