Even if you don’t catch that ‘hot dog’ on the first try…or ever, the memories you make and the learning you gain are what truly matter. So, let’s relish 😜 the ride, because the journey itself is the best part. Many Oscar-winning actors 🏆, Olympic athletes 🥇, and other high-achievers have shared that when they finally achieved their lifelong dream, they fell into a depression 😔. The rush of anticipation, the milestones, and the sense of purpose that kept them going suddenly disappeared, leaving them questioning themselves and their next steps. 🧠 Neuroscience even supports this: our brains release dopamine, the feel-good hormone, in anticipation of achieving a goal 🎯. Each milestone along the way gives us a hit of motivation and happiness, pushing us forward. But once we reach the goal, that dopamine release drops, making it harder to maintain that same joy. So, if the actual attainment of a goal might not bring the expected euphoria, it’s all the more important to find joy in the pursuit. It’s in the journey that we grow, evolve, and become more of the person we aspire to be.
