Julianne Moore Instagram – This year, I’ll be continuing my weekly #WomenCrushWednesday posts, lifting up champions in the gun safety movement and celebrating their tremendous work. Today, I’d like to feature Loree Peery of Spirit Lake, Idaho.
Loree is a volunteer with @Everytown’s Gun Sense Action Network (GSAN), a program that provides volunteers across the country the opportunity to take action on gun safety from home. GSAN volunteers spend time each week calling new supporters to help plug them into the gun safety movement and turn them into gun sense activists. They also call constituents in key districts to connect them with their legislators and to help elect Gun Sense Candidates.
For Loree, this means being able to advocate for gun safety and grow the movement from her small town in rural northern Idaho, where she’s made calls to states across the country. “During the 2022 midterms, my team was able to call into Virginia to invite supporters to canvas for Gun Sense Candidates,” Loree recalls. Many of those candidates were elected into office.
Loree is also a survivor of gun violence: On September 11, 1976, Loree’s mother, Janet Wollan, was shot and killed by a domestic abuser, and in an instant, Loree and her family’s lives were irrevocably changed. Loree is now determined through her activism to honor all those impacted by gun violence: “I do this work for all victims and their families devastated by gun violence. It shouldn’t happen to anyone.”
Thank you @loreeeileen and the hundreds of GSAN volunteers across the country. To volunteer with the Gun Sense Action Network this year, text VOLUNTEER to 644-33 or click the link in my bio. #wcw | Posted on 08/Jan/2025 21:58:36
